I cannot stop thinking of what has happened in Mumbai (and what still is happening) . I heard that they were targeting british and americans, and were also killing any other person who got in their way.

This has led to me not booking Goa for Jan. I am sad most of all about the number of innocent lives that have been lost, not just tourists, but local people have been killed in this.

I know most of you on this forum are saying ' we are not going to let the terrorists win, we are still going to Goa'.

But i have a 5 year old son, and he has got many years ahead of him, unlike the rest of us oldies, so this is why we are going to Mexico instead of Goa.

I will really miss Goa, but you can't have everything you want in life. It makes me feel sick to the stomach thinking of the pain and fear they are causing.

i can understand also,if i had a child that age i think i would do the same, enjoy mexico :)

We are going to, When you think i am less than 1 hr away from Birmingham and 2 from London where there as been bombings and terrorist attacks why not go to Goa !!!!!

The only reason i would not go now is if mum got worse or the government stops us.

Hi, i have changed destination, we are going to Mexico instead. The only reason we arent going to Goa is because we have a young child, and i would never forgive myself if anything else happened whilst we were there.

Thanks Jantie and Adelevictoria. If i didn't have a child then i would have no hesitation about going back to Goa. I love the place so much, and i actually thought this would have been my 7th visit in Jan :( .

We are still going, although my mother is worried sick, I have tried telling her that we will be OK, but she has said that she will not be enjoying her Christmas whilst we are in India.

yummymummy, enjoy Mexico!
Cancun?
if so, chichen itza is a must see!

I fully understand your decision and if I had small children, or even grown up children going with me, I would be hesitant also.

We are taking our children on Dec 28th and if I thought there was a risk for anyone I wouldnt go . life cannot be dictated by fear or we wouldn't do or allow our children to do many things that make us & them what we are. We went to Egypt and Turkey shortly after attacks, you cannot let terrorists spoil your plans.

If the FO said dont go then that would be different, but until then Goa here we come :cheers

The decison to travel is down to personal choice.

Spanish terrorists ETTA set bombs of in spain for over 20 years, bombs have been set of in turkey over the last few years, 9/11 in new york, the bombs on the london underground, the Bali bombings. The Irish conflict on the British mainland.

All over the world there have been terrorist threats towards british and american people.

I will not bow to the threats of terrorists. We will be on the plane to Goa on January the 26th, and take the same precautions we would anywhere else in the world.

but as we are taking our grand daughter with us im keeping my options open
one more incident and i will have no other option other than cancel
For the past few christmas and new years theres been red alerts in Goa and we all laughed them off but this time its not so funny

We are still going to fly out Via Mumbai on Boxing Day, had too much stress over getting my visa not to go now!! But on a serious note theres just me and my hubby to think about, anyone with children I totally agree if they decide not to go.

Flight prices are falling just had a quick look on Jewel in the Crown and flight leaving xmas day for 21 days is now down to £545.00 from £849

i'm going Friday unless advised by fo otherwise but I am worried. As people say we've been on alert the last couple of years over there, especially 2 years ago but....... I'm also hoping my son doesn't go out there to work (he's a rep) in January.

I agree I believe you have to follow your own instincts, it is a personal decision and absolutely reasonable to cancel if you are unprepared to take the very real risk especially with young children..I dont want any of my kids coming out here Xmas or New Year to visit us as I feel this is a particularly high risk time for being targeted

The problem with Goa is that they don't have the infrastructure to deal with a terrorist attack such as the one we've recently witnessed in Mumbai. Mumbai is a modern city with good roads, hospitals, emergency services etc. In Goa there are very few ambulances, the Fire Brigade is anything but state of the art and I doubt the new QRT team with their FIVE vehicles and three armed personnel would be up to the task of dealing with a crisis. I'm usually over in Goa at this time of year but I'm glad I'm not there this season, if something was to happen it'd be catastrophic!!!
This is only my opinion, I'm not trying to stir things up but I think people have to think about the consequences if something were to happen....I seriously hope it doesn't

I'm afraid I am no longer going to Goa. We had flights only to Mumbai booked through a redemption voucher with BA. Problem we have is that if anything further happened and we had to cancel nearer the time it would be almost impossible to find anywhere we could use the voucher to- we would just lose it. We took the decision to change our destination now. I have to also admit that I think Goa would be an obvious next target. Its sad to think that since visiting the 5 Indian destinations in 12 days a year ago, 3 of them have suffered terrorist attacks :(

I agree with a few of the other posters, who say it is a personal choice to make.

My OH got talking to a taxi driver at work (he works for a garage) , and the taxi driver is a regular at his garage, so when my OH told the taxi driver he wasnt going back to Goa because of what has happened in Mumbia, the taxi driver was shocked and said, 'no, they wont target Goa, they will only target where the money is'.

I am not sure what he said makes sense, but either way, i still wouldnt go back, not in the near future anyway.

It is very sad, last night i dreamt that we had just landed in Goa, got a taxi to our hotel, and saw those big billboards advertising Kingfisher, and other things.

I really will miss Goa with all my heart, and i know for a fact that Mexico will not beat the feeling i get when i am in Goa. :(

Go and enjoy Mexico Nicola you have to go where you feel Happy. We have been to Mexico and it was good, a totally different holiday to Goa but enjoyable in other ways. We usually have a holiday over that way in May, June and choose Goa at NY as the weather is warmer. Just a tip it is very expensive out of the Hotels (nearly all are AI) so take what you need with you. I am sure when things calm down maybe next year you may look at Goa again
