Goa Discussion Forum

Discussions regarding holidays in Goa.
Debgreg I do agree with you, I don't (or should I say didn't) understand as no matter what age your loved ones are, you wouldn't want to put them in danger, however, after giving it some thought (baring in mind I don't have children of my own) I think a reason you may base your decision on your child's age is that if there was some sort of attack the older your child is the more able they are to respond... when they are littlens they are much more vulnerable....

I've been watching this thread closely as I dont want to see pressure being put on folks.
Years ago before I was a member here I used another travel forum and followed closely posts about Bali as we were planning to go. I watched a thread unfold where some members were telling others not to be stupid when they expressed fears about going. Like here, members were loyal and felt they "knew" each other. I'm sure some were swayed. Not long after, there was the Kuta bombing.
So be assured that I would remove this thread if I felt anyone was being pressurised into making a decision.
We all have to do what we feel comfortable with and we all have to make our own decisions.
As for this thread, I see people discussing the issue of to go or not to go, but respecting the fact that others have made a different decision from them.
( I do agree Adele, with the sentiment of your post. Its worth remembering. As a forum we have always been there to give support and I'm sure that will continue :) )

Mazzy187,
I think the point you made with reference to Pakistan kicking off worries me more than any terrorist attack and this on the grounds that the airport we fly into is a known military base, now if there was a kick off with Pakistan do you not think that this would be a priority target for an air strike and if you think of the airports position, it is in a very vulnerable place on the map and my thoughts go further in the respect that if there was an air strike how in the hell would we all get out, so this is where my thoughts have been over the last few days along with the thoughts of terrorist attacks, and may I point out that my thoughts also went back to the airport in Sri Lanka a few years back, albeit this was only (and I use the word "only" loosely) an internal issue.

Please note these are only my views but it gives food for thought?...jxk8

I agree, lets just say for example if myself and my OH were in Goa and they targeted Goa, we'd be terrified but we would be able to handle it. If our 5 year old child came and got caught up in it he would be scarred for life, traumatised.

It doesn't matter how old your children are, they are still your children. My son loves his job and he's an excellent rep but I really hope he gets a job over here before Jan when he's due to go out. In the meantime, I've got to pack today/in the morning and fly out tomorrow night - but I am dubious. I'm trying to be positive and if I thought about everything I did and everywhere I went I'd never do anything! I'll keep you all posted on things.

yes, they are, but the point i was trying to make was older children, ie an adult, can make their own choices, but a 5 year old cannot, he is relying on me to keep him SAFE, out of harms way, which is what most mothers would do.

One example could be if you hide under a table in your hotel room and turn out the lights so the terrorists dont think your in the room, if your child, who is actually an adult was with you, they would be able to follow instructions, to keep quiet and do not attract attention for example.

Put if you put a young child in that situation, lets say a child under 15years of age, they will not be able to follow your instructions, they will not be able to keep quiet as not to draw attention to yourself and so on.

I personally would not take my child to Goa, after what has happened in Mumbia. This is my own opinion, and they is no right or wrong answer to this.

We are giving great thought to our holiday which is booked and paid for in March. We are supposed to be flying into Mumbai and staying for 3 days before going on to Goa my mind is all mixed up at the moment and i think will it all be calmed down and back to normal then or should we cancel now what a dilemma to be put into?

Sleep we are flying into Mumbai on the 20th December, still going, would think that there would be more security from now on. I am a little worried i would be an idiot not to be but will just keep my wits about me.If you are going to worry from now to march i would cancel, if not go for it. I know this reply might not be much help,Just my point of view. :cheers Gel

Just seen on Sky news that India has put all major airports on high alert after receiving threats that planes may be hijacked and used for possible attacks. :yikes

Airport security has been tightened and travellers are being asked to check in three hours before their flights.

Just arrived back from Mumbai this evening. The security at the airport is unbelievable, sandbagged areas with soldiers with guns sitting inside them, lots and lots of checks of bags and passports and a sense that everyone is looking out for anything or anybody that looks suspicious.

do you get the feeling that this is a deffo imminent threat? i'm annoyed that the fo has said it's ok to travel. I really feel i should stay (let my mate down) and get a refund!!!

We are going back to Goa in January via Mumbai and are not put off going, because now security is really tight.
