Just booked the Signature for 12 nights. Haven't seen any other deals and tried a couple of guys on VRBO and they still wanted big money so I've booked through Luxury Suites again using the Travelzoo code ZDEAL. Saved me a couple of hundred bucks on their normal price. I didn't bother booking the 13th or 14th Sept. as they want over $400 a night on those two nights, I guess because it's Labor day? We've decided to go Downtown and stay two nights in the new 'Rush' rooms in the Golden Nugget. I tried to book but the site is playing up at the mo' so I'll have to do that later. Rush rooms look very nice and are $79 a night so not too bad, especially as most other places are asking lots of money on those two days.
I'm now a happy man!! :D

Cheers

Great news TC! It's good when a plan comes together.

It's good to have them booked - have now got Golden Nugget booked for the 13th/14th. I can still cancel if a better deal comes along but I doubt it will seeing as it's only 5 weeks or so away. It doesn't seem like the 'bigger' or should I say 'posher' hotels are really giving much away in deals this year. Normally we see at least some Vegas deals that have 'wow' factor but I haven't really seen much this year.

Vdara for $99 is a steal.

Have you been checking the Vegas Hotels thread?

Yup, have been reading it. Vdara doesn't have umbrellas round the pool so no shade - can't be having that!! :sun2 :) Signature has the best pool facilities in Vegas I think.

Signature tower 3 pool is closed completely Monday - Thursday and only opens at 10:00am Friday - Sunday. Waitress service only starts at 12:00.

Tower 1 pool opens at 9:00am each day and as the only pool open until 10:00 it gets fairly busy with the best spots being taken early on the day.

Tower 2 pool opens at 10:00am each day.

Still a good setup but not as good as it used to be. Of course, you can alos use the MGM pools

Pool 1 is always busier as it gets the sun earlier. It's never been more than half full in any of the four previous stays we've had at the Sig. At any time of day. :D

ah, if you've only stayed there a few times you might not have stayed their recently (or in busier periods) and not be aware that pool 1 has become a lot more popular with their blue hour pool party - and it being seen as the pool to be at.

Half full pool also means no umbrellas which for a lot of people is people means no pool time (at this time of year)

Blue hour is actually from 6pm-10pm on Fridays and Saturdays so won't affect daily sunbathers unless they stay real late.

Yes Blue Hour is only at weekends for a few hours at the weekend but it has helped make Pool 1 the main pool all week long and the place to be "seen". Also, the days of nice mattresses on the sunbeds have gone, numerous umbreallas are often out of service due to lack of "pins" and instead of replacing them pool staff seem content on just taking a pin from one umbreall to use on a different one. They no longer leave the daily paper outside your room (still pick one up at reception but obviously they can then assume they need fewer overall) and approx 25% of the machines in the fitness centre have one issue or another.

Still happy enough with the place overall but cost cutting is definitely happening and a few small niggles that would not have occurred a few years ago (or would have been solved in quick time) are now evident.

Oh, and by the way, the Vdara does have umbreallas, the probelm is the seem to have a problem with them in windy conditions and insist they all stay down.

Cheers Billybob. The photos I've seen of Vdara all showed just one or two umbrellas but that's as good as none really!

I'll be interested to see how the Sig is now then. I thought the paper under your door was part of the resort fee?

You still get a free paper, but you have to pick it up yourself (reception and fitness centres certainly have some laid out for you to pick one up).
with a paper outside the door I'd "read" it most days, but having to pick one up from downstairs, I (along with most guests) couldn'y be bothered picking one up.

Anothe plus/minus point from last week. We got the resort fee removed after complaining that house keeping hadn't called in 2 days despite the require house keeping button being on from 9:00am to 8:00pm

Still the hotel of choice, but after years of faultless quality all these little things become noticeable.

TC - that weekend isn't labor day (labor day is the 6th) so weekend before. I had noticed that rates seem quite high the first few weekends though that month. We always go around labor day but not usually for so long as 15 nights like this year. We tend to find good offers for the week of labor day (ie like 7th onwards this year) then they go back up around the 13th or so as the offers used to stop dead at that point. That said, offers are generally more abundant than usual. We're at Desert Rose the weekend in question, packaged through expedia.

Cheers Lesley, I thought it was around that date.
Prices certainly seem high in mid September for some places/dates, ridiculous that the 13th/14th Sept in Signature is $449 for each night and yet other places on the strip are 'normal' price?

hi lesley, no it's not our first visit we went about 8 years ago with the kids and stayed at circus circus, now we are footloose as no kids :D they have grown up, not really thought about hiring a car, any info on where to eat and drink and things to do will be welcome, looks like sunburn is looming as noticed a post saying the vdara has no brollies round the pool, not going to let that worry me though, did the canyon last time so may do something different this time, anyway less than 5 weeks to go now and can't wait. cheers dag :cheers

Quick question - anyone seen the Nathan Burton comedy magic show?

Looking at this offer - $29.99 including buffet at Flamingo. 4pm show, looks like you can do dinner buffet. I know the buffet isn't great before anyone says....we're vegetarian so I'd only be looking for some salad, pasta, mash or baked potato and similar and some dessert so it will be passable. Really just wondering if the show is worth seeing? I'm thinking it may be a bit like Mac King (which we enjoyed!).
