I havent been to Benalmadena for about 5 years now, was just wondering what sort of prices to expect thease days for the usual things. I remember getting a Menu Del Dia for only 250 pta's .. I know they shot up when the Euro kicked in.
Thanks in advance

We were in La Carihuela in July we paid roughly 7 - 12 euros for an average main course in the evening , the more exclusive restuarants 15 - 20 euros. Drinks in Benalmadena Marina were obviously more expensive (around 4 euros pint San Miguel) Local bars 2.5 euros - 3 euros.
Sorry couldnt tell you price of wine as were not wine drinkers.
You could get cheaper deals than the above in the smaller bars and restuarants.
Water Park in torremolinos 22
euros (but there is a voucher for 2 euros off on their website)
Supermarket prices for self caterers i found around same prices as england)

Hello JoJo, thank you for your reply, i am surprised at how much the prices have gone up. Looks like i will have to save up a bit more than i thought.
You wouldn't have got a menu del dia for 250 ptas in the last 15 years! I remember a couple that charged 350 ptas, but that was about 25 years ago. You can still get a reasonable menu del dia for about 12 Euros, depends where you are thinking of staying - it's cheaper in Benalmadena than Marbella, for example.
Your quite right i was getting my conversions in a muddle, im sure they were about £3 -£4 which was pretty good.
Thank you for your reply

We are just back. We found the prices varied so much and you can't tell by looking at a place how much they are likely to charge unless they display their prices. We could get a pint for a euro in a couple of places but paid up to 3.50 euros. Also places where beer was advertised at 1.5 euros if you drank anything else it was expensive. Lot more expensive than Benidorm. You just have to bite the bullet and open your wallet and don't think about the cost. For the first time ever we are considering all inclusive another time.
annengeof i so agree with you...if you like to go self catering you do need to take plenty of cash and within reason not think too much about what you are spending else it will ruin your holiday.I love the freedom of self catering but i was prepared to spend a little.
Self catering is no longer the budget holiday it was and if i find myself unable to spend so much would probably go half board etc.
The problem is people still very much remember the times of eating and drinking being cheap abroad but the way i look at it im only paying what i would pay to eat out in a holiday resort in England.
It is true though you can not tell what you will pay by looking at the place.
Hope you had a good time annengoeff?

annengeof, whereabouts are the bars where you only paid 1 euro for a pint? We are going soon, if you can get a couple for a euro it balances out the more expensive places.
Simmey, some bars in Inbenza Sq do €1 pints - Sinatra's charge €1.10, bar opp Peacock also do €1, if you venture up near Lidl, there is a bar opp side to store, passed roundabout called Sol y Sol its €1 there, and after 6.30pm its 85c, also few bars in Montemar, down hill from roundabout do €1-1.50pint..lots of food offers as well, most bars have menu boards outside..chat to other tourists, someone will always tell you, what bar's restaurants, they have found good OR bad..enjoy your stay..x
the bars on the main road opposite the riveria are cheap so are the ones just as you start to go up cardiac hill,on you right, pint or wine 1 euro, local spirit and mixer 2,50 foster is around 2.50 and pint cans of john smiths are 1.50/2.00
We were told about the sol y sol the first day and wandered around aimlessly trying to find it after being given very vague directions. Took us about 3 days to find it after reading about it in Buzz. Basically look for the big hole and the cranes and it is right at the side on the dual carriageway. Breakfast is very nice in there and all the meals are value for money. It gets the sun all afternoon (a must for me!). Tom's Tavern I can recommend which is just down the hill from there. John Smiths smooth on draft for 2.20 euros and Spanish lager for a euro. All drinks prices displayed and all cheap. Trouble is no sun so only use it at night.
Love Toms Tavern as well Dave-Jean and all the staff are great..don't use many Brit bars but these are worth a visit..x
annengeoff -- If you read about Sol Y Sol in the Buzz then you should have been able to find it from the Montemar map in there ...
Have just booked for next summer. Staying in Flathotel in Benalmadena for a change. Couldn't face the Tiburon again.
Anne if you fancy calling into Sol again next year, the bus will take you from Flat Hotel and drop you almost on the doorstep, also bus stop for your return is just across the road..
Thanks, we did the bus trip from there a few times. Had breakfast then caught the bus. There is a little beach we like near the Flathotel which is the main reason for choosing it.
I was stumped for a few minutes trying to place the Flat Hotel, until it dawned on me that you mean the Flatotel International.
Sorry Sanji always been known for sounding my H's...

Here you go....red arrow > the dual carriageway heading towards Torremolinos and the Sol Y Sol...you can also get to it by walking all the way up Calle Nerja and there's a load of steps by the side of the building.
The picture was taken in June of this year for the progress of the Hotel Cruiser....or the lack of it.!!!
Sanji
Are you out there at the mo, if so is it getting any cooler, June is too hot for me, could not stand July & August temps...!!
