Kalamaki isnt a very traditional resort, but it is in a good location, close to the airport and other resorts such as Laganas and Zakynthos town. There were plenty of bars and restaurants, Tesoro being our favourite by a mile. It is an open air traditional greek taverna. The food, staff and service were consistently absolutely fantastic.
I wouldnt recommend eating at Castello. Despite being told night after night by the annoying man outside that it is fantastic, we sat on 5 chairs before we found ones that werent broken, then we were served warm beer, and the prawns in our prawn cocktail had obviously gone off as they were green! We eventually got fed up of waiting for a replacement starter so spoke to the manager who was not one bit apologetic and was just downright rude so we left.
The bars were all OK. We particularly liked The Cave, Sofias and Drunk Corner. We found it a little quiet to start with but it seemed to pick up later in the week.
The beach was nice, calm sea and very sandy, no rocks at all in the sea. We always got sunbeds no matter what time we arrived. These were costing us €7 a day for two of them.
We went on a boat trip around the island and a trip to Kefalonia with Cavo Grosso which were good but there were extras to pay for on the Kefalonia trip that were not mentioned when we booked and also it got back far too late (8.45pm) which again we were misled about when we booked.
The only complaint we had about our holiday to Zante was when we had to queue for 2 hours outside the airport in 38 degree heat waiting to check in to come home. The reps werent controlling the queues properly and people were pushing in (although I couldnt really blame them for trying after all that time). Then once we got inside the terminal building we had to queue for a further half an hour before we checked in. The airport lounge is tiny and there were hardly any seats. Poeple were sat all over the floor. The toilets werent nice neither. It was a very stressful end to what had been a lovely relaxing holiday.

Teh resort was really good for family as there were no drunken fools about the place like we saw in Laganas!
It was really clean with just rubish on the side of the roads some nights in time for rubbish picj up!
There was not really much entertainemnt at the resort apart from quizzes and bingo and the famous game from this country "deal or no deal".Most places just seem to offer "happpy hour" with cocktails at about 2 euros:)!!
Lots of good restraunts to go to in the resort such as yoyo's (good Sunday dinner), El Sandros and the Greek taverna about two doors up from there.(thety are all located on the Beach trip. On Kalamaki strip the list was endless worth a try: Panarama rooftop garden,Estelios(next door to mermaids),Venue and many more.To have a drink there are a load of cocktail bars and family bars to choose from.Down under was really good for the teenager kids (like i have got),P&P cocktail bar, Coconut jo's,Mustang Saloon (also good for snacks in the day),Vanessa's bar, sofias,Fire bar, Soda plus and there are alot moe can think what they are called thoguh.
The beach was really nice, the restrictions did however spoil it thought to do with the turtles.Didint get to see any thought :( apart from the Careta Careta trip which is well worth a try.The island tour was ok aswel (book all trips with the frindly man on the left hand side about a 2 minute walk form the hotel,je is hard to miss!
Iwould return to this resort in a few years as by then wit a bit of luck there will be more to do with more entertainment and things..and no t forgetting when the airport becomes a little bigger and can caterfor more people as it was no fun having a 5 hour delay in this airport as it was packed!

Kalamaki suited us perfectly. We stayed for one week and there were plenty of restaurants to choose from.
We ate at:
'The famous Mermaids' restaurant on the first night and it was reasonable (pork skewers tasted oily though). Went back later in the week for late breakfast (14.00pm) omlettes were well cooked and English breakfasts were exactly that!)
'The Parthanon' - Lamb Kleftiko (gorgeous), staff really friendly and attentive and really wanted to make sure you were satisfied - highly recommended! Favourite restaurant.
'The Olive Tree' - Great Chips! Lovely chicken in stilton sauce and mexican pasta was good too. Would definately have gone back if stayed longer. A close second!
'Duon Amici' - Italian (in Greece i know!) Pizza really thin and enjoyable. Pasta was good too. Garlic bread as thin as a crisp (i'm not kidding!)! Quite expensive in reality. House white has a hint of sherry!
'Dias or Dion' - can't really remember the name of it but its off the main street and is white (you pass it as you enter the resort from the airport and it looks quite impressive) - steaks were great - Lamb Kleftiko was terrible, really fatty and disappointing.
'Zakanthon' - set down off the street - we went here for their Greek night - Small menu - Long evening so don't get there too early and be prepared to dance (although you don't have to if you don't want to and there's no uncomfortable pressure to join in). We booked a table for 8.15pm and i would suggested you leave it til 9.00pm instead (you probably should book though!)
The bars etc along the street we found were welcoming and accommodating - Oh and had no tummy problems with having ice in our drinks, actually saw most bars/restaurants having bags of it delivered!

The resorted consisted of mainly newish building with plenty of bars and restraunts to eat or drink from.
Cleanliness along the main street was very good. Entertainment was good but maybe to quiet for younger couples looking for late night disco bars. Kalimaki is situated only 4 KM from Lagonas so those wanting the night life were only a short taxi ride away.
The beach was protected for the turtles to nest on so jet ski,s and many water sports were barred from the beach area but this suited us as we enjoyed the peace and quiet laying on the beach.

Why have I not been to this resort before???? It is so beautiful!!
First time in Kalamaki and will not be the last. Loads of great restaurants and bars. Nicest bar above all is the cave bar. Superb cocktails and there is also a guy who takes you up to the bar in a little beach buggy!
It is beautiful and relaxing there. Another great bar is p&p where they serve excellent cocktails and play good rock music. The oasis bar is also a nice cocktail bar also.
Eating out is great! Best restaurants are Panorama, Paolo’s, and Olive tree. A meal for 4 adults with starters and drinks cost around 60 euros which isn’t bad at all. If you like beer then try Mythos......its great!
I suggest you book your trips with smile tours on the main strip, your rep will charge an arm and a leg! Hope this helps you all and hope you have a great holiday as we did xx

The resort was quiet, which was what we wanted.
Although the main town Zante was only a short ride away in a taxi, there was plenty of bars and resturants, this resort is more for families and older people.

None of the hotels appeared to have kids clubs and the only entertainment seemed to be karaoke or large screen TVs! but we found Rodells bar just outside the hotels main entrance 40metres to the left to be an oasis of peace and tranquillity very well run by a wonderful English couple. Go there; you won’t be disappointed I promise.
The beach is about a 15min walk and once there you can walk a further 20min to the next resort Laganas along the waters edge.
The beach closes between 8pm and 7am during which time the endangered leather back turtles will be laying their eggs. You must also stay close to the waters edge to avoid standing on the nests. Eating out is a joy and we found Greek food to be simply the best. Restaurents we went back to were Stani beside the beach (Sunday night is Greek night)Paris,Hera and Michaelos .We did eat in Mermaids, food very good but lacking in atmosphere.
We hired a Hyundai accent in advance from www.faros-rentals.gr by internet which included free cdm and theft protection and they were superb and very reasonable. Car was dropped off to the hotel on time and you only had to leave keys with reception when finished. We drove to St.Nicholas to see the blue caves but chose to drive to the shipwreck as it was 3 hours by boat from there. We also took in Volimes village for home made produce/souvenirs and Vromi beach while we were on the north side of the island. Also worth a visit were gerakas and Keri beach where we hired a motor boat to take us to Marathonis isl.
The tour operator Friends next to Mermaids were excellent and we booked two trips with Tim, one to the island Kekalonia and the other a turtle watch from a glass bottom boat which leaves from agios sostis-magical.
All in all we had a great holiday, loved the Greek people. Caretta beach isn’t 5star but you didn’t pay 5 star prices and kids loved it. Enjoy

We stayed in Kalamki and thought it was an ideal resort for all ages. Numberous bars and resturants within 10 minutes of walking.

Beach pretty poor, because turtles lay their eggs here you have a tiny strip you're allowed to sunbathe on and not allowed to put up umbrellas.
Huge pavements good luck if you have a pram! Eating out in Kalamaki is good, especially Olive Tree and Mermaids very big portions at cheap prices. Plenty of shops for buying groceries/ souveniers etc.
Quite quiet even in high season so if you're after a lively holiday I'd suggest Laganas 5 mins in a cab.
