Kalamaki beach is nice, although fairly busy. You have to stay towards the front of the beach by the shoreline as the Caretta Caretta (turtles) nest at the back. There are wardens who keep an eye on people and you get a sharp blow of the whistle if you venture to far back. The water is crystal clear and warm and there are pedlo’s for hire but no water sports here because of the Turtles.
Kalamaki main strip is busy, with lots of taverna’s, bars, hotels and shops. It’s a really long strip and you should find something there to entertain you. It mainly consisted of families and couples rather than the younger crowd who populated Laganas.
We ate out every night and can say we didn’t have a bad meal in Kalamaki. I would like to recommend three of the restaurants that we used. The first has to be Michaelo’s which is wonderful. Great atmosphere, great staff and wonderful food with really good prices. Try the specials, freshly cooked! Yammas! The other is Dia’s which is down a side street from Kalamaki strip again wonderful food and great service. The third is Zeppos down towards the beach, lovely setting, nice staff, nice food, good value.
If you hire a car, which I would highly recommend to see the Island, try St. Nicolas beach. I am not normally a beach lover, but this beach is gorgeous, the water is amazing, the sand really soft. Lots of water sports. My husband and son shared a jet ski which cost €50 for 15 minutes and my son and I went out on a inflatable sofa which was €15 each. Sun beds are plenty.
We toured the Island in our jeep, took in the sunset at Kambi, visted Keri which is really lovely. All in all a great holiday for the third time in Zante.

the beach was lovely and the children loved the fact that there were places real close for food etc so you could spend the whole day there.

Kalamaki resort is not the busiest but that suited us fine. Enough restauraunts to eat out at different places each night and a few bars to chill out in. If you go I recommend the italian restaurant- Buon Amici ran by a guy called Nicos. Food was excellent. We tended to drink house wine and this was the best by a mile (we learned on the last night he makes it himself) atmosphere and service complimented the food.
One word of caution avoid trips around the island with a company called Cavo Grosso(on main street) ripped us off!

kalamaki is a great resort well laid out.the only thing that spoilt the cleanliness was the rubbish piled up on the floor by the bins was a bit smelly.there was plenty to do in the bars and restaurants greek night, singers etc.mermaids restaurant is excellent you must go here for a meal the plates are enormous, also the cave bar ignore the reps advice about the mossies there wasnt that many and its a beautiful place.down under cocktail bar was brill we ended up there a few nights.after reading the reviews on here i was worried about the beach, neednt have been the water was calm and clear they are very strict about where you lie and are not keen on sandcastles this is due to the turtles and isnt really a problem and NO we didnt see a turtle.hire a car or scooter and get up in the mountains keri, porto vromi, volimes and the ship wreck are all worth a visit ,laganas was okay in small doses but had plenty of shops.airport was awful enough said.a week here was not enough and would go back again lovely people and a beautiful island

Kalamaki has a "main strip" where most of the action takes place, although you find excellent restaurants dotted about the countryside.
The beach is excellent for children as there is gentle shelving.

Kalamaki short walk, lots of resturants, bars etc. Mermaids best place to eat if you can get a table, and staff very efficient.
Plenty of shops to buy nice presents and all come about the same price. Tip! you get a much higher exchange rate over there, so may want to use your card at bank machines or to pay for items.
Lots of trips available, and transport to hire
Bin men been on strike so lots of rubbish about at sides of roads.
Beach not golden sands, lots of sunbeds at places, but still could find a place. Because of turtles nesting etc, not allowed on beach between 7pm-7am.

Resort dirty. Entertainment karaoke everywhere you go quite boring after 2 weeks. Beach filthy full of cigarette ends and horse manure. The only plus points were a snack bar called time out very friendly people, and a bar called coconut joes very friendly staff.
Hotel right near airport but that wasnt a problem. So overall wouldn't return to Kalamaki or the Marlene hotel.
Could carry on for a long time but would run out of room.
