Alvor is the perfect place to have a relaxing holiday, it is just the place to unwind and de-stress. It has a very long, clean beach with golden sands. It is not the place for an 18 to 30 type holiday, though there are plenty of bars, restaurants and snack bars, many run by British and Irish people and you will get awarm wellcome if you frequent these. The resort is on the mouth of the river Alvor and whilst the area has many golf courses, for the ornithologist the area is teeming with bird life. It has a small harbour and you can watch the local fishermen landing their catches. Alvor is bigger than it first appears with lots of narrow alleyways. It also as avery nice Catholic church, Mass in English at 6.30 pm Saturdays.
If you want a relaxing holiday, Alvor whilst stll offering the choice of taking part in the many activities the area has to offer can certainly provide it and it should be given serious consideration.

There is a lovely beach and when the tide is out it makes for very good walking and if you are a shell collector it has some great specimens. As we were there in January we felt we only saw the resort at 50% capability as a lot of restaurants were closed and being renovated but it was still very enjoyable and some great fish restaurants were open down by the harbour which in itself was very picturesque. We will be returning as we felt a week was not enough.

Idyllic little fishing village with an abundance of fantastic places to eat. Beautiful long, golden, clean beach with a few little treasures to be found around the rocks when the tide is out. Lots of entertainment to be found, especially if you catch the Elvis impersonator - he's fab and well worth going to see. There is also a little cocktial bar called Cactus II in the Dunas do Alvor complex - fab cocktials, brilliant music and a very warm welcome every time you visit.
I could go on and on about Alvor I found it so beautiful and some of the excursions are well worth taking too.
Go, relax and enjoy.

The beach at Alvor is lovely and has a blue flag. Spent every day there. Sunbeds are rather expensive at 10 euroes for two beds and a brolly. Don't know why it says it is a hotel concession as anyone can use them. Nice cafes/restaurants along the beach serving good food. The town of Alvor is very nice. Loads of restaurants. Worth going B&B to try them out. Lovely shops and nice frontage by the little harbour where the fishing boats sail from. Last time we went to Alvor they were working on the promenade but this is now finished. Plenty of bars, some quiet and some not so quiet. Something for everyone.

Alvor itself is such a lovely resort with lots of fish restaurants and varied bars, although it has not lost it's traditional Portugese quaintness. The beach is so clean and goes on for miles, so most of the time there was no one near to annoy you. The new marina with a few bars is very nice and some nights they have entertainment in them.
I would recommend Alvor to anyone especially couples.
I will definitely go back there!

Stayed in Alvor for 2wks, people had told us it was quite expensive! We found it cheaper than Spain. Large sagres beer 2 euros & we paid average of £16 for our evening meal for two of us & the quality was excellent.
We ate breakfast at Tapa Latina near the roundabout, 5 euros for full english, the China Garden was an excellent chinese, the Indian Hut on bar st does a fab vindaloo!,we ate at least 6 nights at Albar, there was such variety lots of veg & chips or jackets, seafood, pastas, steaks etc & very inexpensive, lovely desserts too!
The Phoenix is a yorkshire owned place who does great yorki puds & an apple crumble to die for. A few nights we had pizza at La Piazza nr the roundabout.
If you go to the Silmar they have Peruvian players on some nights in the square. Change money at Alisuper supermarket near the roundabout, its the cheapest in town.
Pick up a free resort map, they're everywhere & give details of all restaurants, bars etc.
There wasn't much to spend money on & little entertainment cos its a quiet small resort, we hired a car with carhirealgarve.net, all inclusive insurance for 3 days £63, went to Albufeira, Carvoeiro, Praia de Rocha & Lagos would stay in Albufeira next time as beautiful & plenty to do, drove to the Monchique mountains & went over to Spain for the day.
The beaches were beautiful would defo go back to Alvor, very relaxing holiday.
