First impressions as we arrived on the bus to Playa Blanca, was that all the other hotels looked so pretty and nice and we were worried what we were going to get. But we needn't have worried. It maybe wasn't quite as grand as some of the ones we'd seen, but it was more than enough for us.
Check in was very smooth and quick, everyone very friendly and helpful. We were told that the restaurant had now closed (9.30pm), but as we have arrived late there would be a cold buffet laid out at 10.30pm, so that was very good of them.
We had a family room, so this meant a ground floor room. No view as such, but still looked out on to the pool, and was perfect for us. The room was nicely decorated, quite fresh feeling. Definitely clean feeling. I've arrived in hotels before where you don't really want to sit on the sofa as it feels a bit mucky, but this was the complete opposite. We settled into the room very easily and for the 7 days we were there, it felt like home. Maid service was every day, and they swept the floors, made the beds and changed our towels every day. We hired a mini bar fridge for the week as the room doesn't have one, that cost us 15 euros, but well worth it. We also paid for the safe, not sure how much we paid for that, but we did get back a 10 euro deposit.
Had a few small issues as the week went on, but they were all resolved quickly and efficiently. The safe wasn't working 1 night, fixed in no time, the toilet got blocked twice, but both times fixed very quickly, and on our last day our room key stopped working. The reception told us we had to have it re-validated after 12pm, as we had a late checkout (but was slightly annoyed that no one had ever told us this)
Food was sort of varied. There are 3 theme nights where some of the food is representative of different countries. But at the same time there is always more plain choices to have. They serve pasta each night, freshly cooked with ingredients of your choice and the sauce of your choice. There is a grill on every ngiht with different fishes or meats. Each night there was a pizza of some description and always chips on offer. Always lots of fresh breads, and loads of cheeses. Salad on offer every night too. Desserts, there were plenty to choose from. Always about 8 flavours of ice cream to serve to yourself, along with various different flans and sponges and cakes. The only thing I craved for by the end of the week was to be served our meal, I did miss the fact that we were eating out every night, but yet we were serving ourself, but it wasn't a problem, I just think you tend to eat too fast when it is a buffet service.
Lunchtimes, meals were served in La Choza bar outside. The menu had plenty different sandwiches on it, along with more substantial meals if you prefer. This was waiter service, but then we were paying for this. Had lunch from there 3 times, and was happy with our meals each time.
The location in perfect. When you leave the hotel, you only have to cross a road and walk down a short path to get to the beach promenade. You can walk into town this way, or just down the main road, which is about 5-10 mins walk with the shops starting after about 4 mins walking.
The staff were generally all friendly. No real complaints until the last day actually, when I had to go to reception about the key not working. I was a bit dissapointed at the 'reception' I got from the lady there. She argued that our key needed to validated - I told her that my husband had checked the night before that they had a note of our late checkout and confirmed with them that we'd be leaving about 5pm, but had not been told that the key would stop working after 12pm. I was more annoyed at her for not just saying sorry about this misunderstanding. She then told me we have to settle the bill, I said we'd be doing this when we check out. It so happened that it was this same lady who checked us out, and my husband had been no more impressed by her attitude and dissapointed that she hadn't asked how our stay had been, or hadn't wished us well in our journey home, we expected this as common courtesy. Despite, her, every one was fantastic and friendly and helpful.
Entertainment, hmm, well is that what is was called?? Firstly, I think that the hotel doesn't necessarily need to put on much enetertainment. Perhaps a disco each evening might have been enough. There is a mini disco for the kids earlier int he evening, then there is bingo, and then the vening entertainment, provided by the same poor souls that have been running round after the kids all day and geeing people up to play mini golf, or pool, or water polo etc etc. It was quite frankly, terrible! The first night we went in, they were doing short sketches. This was hilarious, but for all the wrong reasons. Gradually people were leaving, and we decided to do the same. We tried another evening when it was a Grease theme. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but all it seeemd to be was 5 people miming a grease soundtrack in the background and going through each song, one by one. Wasn't funny, wasn't silly, wasn't very entertaining. But do not let that put you off, as it really was not necessary to have this entertainment. In the bar, there was more entertainment, this time it was 2 guys on a piano, sometimes singing, sometimes on saxophone. But they were pretty good.
I would absolutely go here again, and will recommend this hotel to all my friends.

The pool whilst cold, was a welcome relief from the heat and was ok after a minute or two, there was plenty of sunbeds to go round so I didnt worry about putting out towels till after 9am.
The food was ok, I thought it could have been better but in saying that it was always hot, the plates were hot and I could always find something to make a meal from.
I will go back to this hotel, it was very welcoming and it felt nice to be there.

The weather could have been better but that was our only complaint. The hotel was always clean. We had quite a bit of rain and the cleaning staff were kept busy. All staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The food was good. Breakfasts always plenty of choice, omelettes, bacon, sausages, beans etc. but it isn

On a postive note first: Very spotless clean, Staff are so friendly, Kids disco is brill, kids love it! my little boy loved it! The entertainment is ok, they have some good acts with some like Butlins camp done by the staff.
Rooms are ok need good update, so does the hotel urgently! The swimming pool is tired with an array of patch work to the flooring.
Food is not very nice, luke warm. Breakfast is the worse, everthing taste oily with cheap streaky bacon with ye old oak sausages, UHT milk, earthy tea, and Corn flakes like cardboard even our boy turned his nose up. The only thing worth eating at breakfast was the omlette but watch out for the green bits in the sweaty cheese, but that ran rather thin after a week. Food runs out so quick! Food staff seem so stressed out, seem so abrupt and bang items about the table if you turn up for Breakfast and evening meal an hour before closing time! Watch out if ya have meat make sure its cooked! Mexican night was awful we had to leave.
The little porter guy is a credit to the hotel he helped us with the cases, he reminded us of manuel from faulty towers. Drinks very expensive, if u sitting around the pool its cheaper to go to the shop across the rd. The bottles of wine are 75% cheaper at the shop than in the restarant that's no joke. They have a Wappy hour, it's 17:00 to 18:00 hr and only includes beer and coke. The food is such a big let down, unless it has good shake up, we not b coming back!

Okay there is always something your not going to like
For me it was the bacon at breakfast but its never the same as at home but do you expect it to be?
There was always a decent choice on breakfast and dinner house wine was 8 euros a bottle at dinner not that expensive beer around same as UK the staff were very polite and helpful that includes waiters reception, and entertainment staff were brilliant personalities.
We hired a car for a week and decided that the location of the Lanzarote princess was one of the best places to be - out the back gate 2 minute walk to the town and bars and shops 15 minute walk the other way down the promenade to the marina and shop mostly British staying there. Definitely recommend.
One gripe no fridge as standard in the room.
Never looked for cracks in plaster to busy enjoying holiday

There are lots of activities on offer if you choose to take the challenge! The animation team are fun but no overly pushy. The bingo is a must and my husband and are still mixi mixi/ shaky shaky chanting, I know it sounds naff but it was very good fun even though I didn't win a prize - oh sugar!
All staff were excellent but hotel is being refurbished so one day we had no water for the morning and no bottled water was offered and then a few days later no telephones were available.
Food was good and healthy choices on offer, the Cava at breakfast was a very nice habit I could have become accustomed to!
Thomson staff rarer than hens teeth at the hotel unless you needed to book excursions!
As this hotel is the oldest in the resort it is not 'flash' but you can use the free shuttle bus to go to the very nice sister hotel which has a spa. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Really nice, spacious reception and conservatory area, very clean.
Food was average, being vegetarian you expect to get less choice, but there were usually dishes with Chickpeas or rice/bean dishes.
Piano bar well worth a visit to see the talented Saxophonist/pianist part of duo, a real gem.
Hairdresser was a real let down to my elderly Mother, she 'forgot' her appointment and showed no sign of care or concern. Constantly displayed a 'back in 10 minutes' sign.
Having just read the previous reviews I would say this hotel has improved considerably and will continue to do so.
