After reading several reports on this hotel, being a bit of a control freak, i was a bit worried about the hotel room, thinking it was going to be a pit! However when we arrived it was fine, the hotel reception is very helpful and we checked in quite quickly. There are 2 lifts for your suitcases in each hotel and stairs. We were on the second floor facing the street, and while it was a little noisy, personally it didnt really bother either of us, and the view went out to the sea front, so we got to see the sunset every night, i think it was just as noisy towards the pool anyway. We had no problems with sleeping, it wasnt that noisy. Our tip is to either hire a fan when you get there or take a small 10" one with you, thats what we did and it was a godsend! it allowed us to close the door at night and not die in the heat, and also allowed any noise there was to be shut out, and stopped us being bitten by any nasties! The maid came every day and cleaned everywhere!, although i did polish up a bit with some cleaning wipes i had with me. The pool was quite nice too, there were loads of sunbeds, and while most were taken up by middday when we emerged, you can still find the odd one lurking about. My advice on excursions, go to the reps and see what they've got but before you hand over any cash, check out what the hotel has too offer too, e.g. the waterpark was 4 euros cheaper entry with the colombus compared to thompson, and you dont get anything different or better cos you have to make your own way there and back, and before you spend all your cash, check out the 2nd reception of the hotel, cos there are some really cool things to do that you cant get anywhere else, like underwater scuba jet ski things...
Personally i dont know what anyone else was on about when they moaned about the hotel, we had o problems whatsoever, and if you dont have anything they will always get it for you, one tip though take a can opener with you cos they only have the stab kind.

Hotel was amazing!! Had the best time ever! Went in August 2005 and the hotel lived up to my expectations.

Studio rooms were small but equipped with everything that you needed. Kettle, toaster basic cooking equipment. Bathroom had great shower and maids cleaned every day and left clean towels

Balcony although relatively small had a great view - sea view, pool view and mountain view all in one!

Did hear the occasional siren but passed quickly other than that you didn't hear much noise at all

About 5 mins walk from shops and nightlife is amazing. Bar staff were really friendly and entertainment was great. The buildings themselves were clean and lifts never broke down.

Reps were best every!!! Freestyle!

Myself and my partner just returned from 2 weeks at the columbus,

and unfortunately we wont be going again,

When we first arrived it looks good, nice and clean, and on first impressions out apartment was ok, but it wasnt clean, the bath wasnt cleaned, the floors werent cleaned, which resulted in manky feet lol and the sheets werent changed as often as they should have been. First night my girlfriend discovered a cockroach, this was the first of many, and reception occasionally sent up a security guard, to spray some stuff but it didnt really work.

I must say we didnt have a problem with the so called strict guards, actually 1 of them was quite friendly! but we didnt come in all loud and drunk. the entertainment was good but the spanish bloke in charge of it can really kill the mood, he tries though.

I found 1 of the reception staff quite rude and arrogant, got the feeling he didnt want to be there!

I would definately say, ask for the second building.

We stayed in the front building, and the constant traffic noise, horns and shouting, drove us close to insanity, had to keep all doors and windows closed, which made it get really hot. also the hospital is near and the ambulances only use sirens to get through the traffic lights right by the hotel.

There are a lot of good points to the hotel, but unfortunately not enough to outweigh the bad.

Oh well

we booked this holiday in december 2004 , not knowing what other people had wrote about this hotel. after reading their reviews and to what i've seen , alot of people must just like complaining for the sake of it.
we had our room in the first block, but over looking the pool.the room was very clean, floors spotless , bathroom spotless, the kettle worked as well as toaster and cooking hob.the fridge was very clean and so was the balcony area.

hotel food was very good for 5 euro's you could get a breakfast buffet (eat as much as you like) which consisted of full english breakfast, contiental breakfast or just cereral's basically anthing you wanted was there.

the hotel is located in a convient spot for the beaches , nightlife and close to los christianos

the security guards were brilliant when there was any trouble or noise which seem to come from the second block it was dealt with by either fining them or sending them packing.rest of the staff especially the bar staff were very friendly and helpful

when we did have a problem with the electric card box it was dealt with straight away

i would visit this hotel again without doubt, there's not many hotels that you can say you enjoyed when a mixture of teenager's , groups of lads & lasses , couples and families of every age mixed and enjoyed the sun and the location

It was just me and my friend who went away, we are both 17 and it was our first holiday alone without our parents. It was brilliant!!!! We went self catering which was a good thing as the restaurantes were very cheap. The hotel seemed very clean and there was a daily maid service. As we went self catering we did not try the food. The location was brilliant, close to many restaurantes and veronicas!!! the hotel staff seemed nice, especially the reps. The security staff were very strict but didnt bother us. We loved this holiday and we are deffinately coming back in 2005 for 2 weeks because one week was not enough.

I've jus came back from stayin at the columbus hotel in tenerife and am already thinkin about goin again next year. The room met our needs, it give us a bed and a bathroom which were cleaned reugularly apart from on the odd occasion but being lads we didnt really care. We only ate at the hotel once or twice but it did the job no complaints what so ever. The staff were fine but as mentioned in other reports the security were quite strict but a suppose its just there job. i've put a 1 for entertainment simply becasue i never watched the hotel entertainment as i was either out or on a excursion with freestyle who may i add were excellent.
Super holiday and see you next year!!

Went to the Columbus in July had an amazing time... the hotel was excellent we stayed in the block with the pool view so had no problem with the road noise.

Tenerife is amazing- the weather was great, the hotel staff were all really friendly and helpful, it was always tidy and clean. No cockroaches in sight-thank god! I and my friends (aged 17) were on our first hol together without our parents and we enjoyed every minute of it.

In the day we went shopping, (lots of cheap shops, the markets fantastic- just haggle!) sunbathed on the beach and spent the rest of the day round the pool. There were plenty of sunbeds which is good as thats usually a problem on holiday. The staff in the hotel are lovely. The security guards seem a bit scary but we spoke to them on the third night and they were actually really cool, they basically said just keep the noise down when you come back late- which is fair enough really!

I only put a 3 for entertainment as we were out most the time and only went to the hotel entertainment once but it wasn

My boyfriend and I have just returned from 2 weeks in the Columbus Aparthotel. We booked in January before reading the other comments on this website. We were rather anxious to say the least about staying here. However, it seems other people must have been in a different hotel to us!

We were really happy when we arrived, the hotel was really clean and well decorated, there were a few security staff but we hardly noticed them throughout the whole fortnight. Although we were half board, there was a fridge in our room which was on without paying extra, 2 hobs , a kettle and a toaster and satelite tv. The maid came in every day to make the beds and clean the floors etc and towels and bed linen were changed regularly. The hotel staff were friendly, especially Susan who organised the pool games such as water polo, rifle shooting, snooker etc.

We didn't go to any of the night time entertainment so can't really comment on this.

The only let down was the food. We would not go half board again unless it was a four or five star hotel. After the first week, we ate out at restaurants most nights as it was cheap enough. There is a snack bar by the pool which is really nice. It serves, pizza, chips, toasties etc for lunch. I am quite fussy with my food, but even my boyfriend who usually eats anything wasn't too impressed with it.
