Hammamet is a real Tunsian town and a resort popular with locals. If you want less busy more British then go to Yasmine a few miles down the coast.

Beach very good. Beach activities were very good with free pedaloes / kiakacs and small cost for motorised watersports.
Small selection of shops locally.

Although Hammamet Jasmine is definitely a purpose-built resort - it has been done very tastefully and very well. The Medina and Marina both offered different types of amusement to the tourists. If you wanted to have some fun bartering with the merchants in the Media then you could probably pick up a few bargains. The Marina was great to sit and watch the world go by with a good selection of cafes and restaurants. The resort as a whole was exceptionally clean and well maintained.
The beaches at both Hammamet and Jasmine were beautiful and exceptionally clean. Our beach at Jasmine got a bit busy and we found the best time was just after breakfast before it became too hot and crowded. The beach cafes were very good value and offered a good variety of snacks and lunches etc. You could get a beer or a soft drink as well. Food and drinks were very reasnably priced as well - we paid much less than we would have for similar items back home.
Not a lot in the way of real shopping, but still a few nice things to be picked up. We travelled by taxi into Hammamet and found more shops which had everything priced - so you didn't have to barter. Not bad selection of bags etc. Much as we loved the buzz in Hammamet, we were more than happy to return to Jasmine where the pace was that bit slower. We took a trip on the horse and carriage which was a lovely relaxing trip for approx 15 mins and driver dropped us just beside the Marina. Some of the restaurants had entertainment most evenings in the form of folk bands and sometimes belly dancers etc.
We also took a trip on the four wheeled buggies which you pedaled like a bicycle. We personally didn't enjoy it as the main roads are very busy and the drivers seem a bit annoyed with these vehicles constantly in their way. Bit of a nightmare when you came to a busy roundabout and you don't have any mirrors! Not for the faint-hearted.
The "wee trains" run regularly around Jasmine and there is also a regular service to and from Hammamet - It cost a little more than the taxi as you pay per person, but still very good value. Taxis were plentiful and reasonably priced. Overall we found the local people very friendly and accommodating.
There is going to be a new shopping mall opening in Jasmine - it is under construction now next to the marina and looks as if it may be completed next year, although I don't know how quickly things get done in Tunisia. The hotels were beautiful and the facilities all seemed to be excellent. We stayed at the Melia Flora Park which was situated just off the beach road, but close enough to everything. Our hotel was not too big but really spacious and tasteful (and cool)!
There are some good excursions if you want to get out and explore a bit. Tunisia has such a fascinating history and it's worth taking a peek back in time. We found the organised trips to be extremely good value for money. Sapphir Voyages in Hammamet Jasmine were excellent.
If you're looking for a relaxing but interesting holiday break then this is the place for you!

The beach was very good, although again the toilets at the beach bar let it down.
One thing we did notice in Hammamet and Yasmine is that credit cards do not seem to be widely accepted. I bought shoes in Hammemet and that shop although displaying a visa sign did not take it and we ate out at a restaurant called the L'Elephante in Yasmine (very nice) but they did not accept credit cards either.

The resort itself where we were staying was not that nice as when you walked past shops you were always hassled evn when you are with her partner to buy things.
We went to Yasmine Hammermath was very good and the hotels were top class it just seemed a different country there, if you want to stay in Tunisia go there you could not go wrong Beautiful area!!

The resort is a bit baron, but its to be expected, your abroad and most places are not like home with grass verges everywhere.
We didn't go to any entertainment away from the hotel, apart from a boat trip, this was lovely and saw dolphins..
The beach was white sandy beach, it needed a bit of a clean but lovely. I would go back to this resort

yasmine hammamat is a fairly new resort so it is very well organised with plenty of restaurants, ice cream parlours etc. there are a good amount of shops and a modern madina/theme park. the beach were we were was very clean, it was raked and tidied frequently especially if there was a light shower of rain (only once while we were there). again as it is a new resort it is very clean, you notice how tidy it is when you venture out of the resort and see some of the other areas are a little scruffy and could do with a tidy. there are also plenty of trips to take, boat trips, market trips, wine tasting trips and dessert safaris.

The resort of Yasmine Hammamet is quite beautiful and upon arriving it feels like you could be in California. It really doesn't feel like anywhere in Tunisia. The marina is beautiful and there are many restaurants and cafes where you can eat and drink.
You can hire scooters, quad bikes, cycles, etc for a few hours but they are quite expensive to hire. There are many clothes shops, etc but Carthage Land theme park, the medina and the marina seem to be the main attractions of this resort. At night time by the marina we saw big bouncy castles that had been put up for the children with music and kids seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Most of the hotels have their own beaches, but you have to leave the hotels and cross the road to access these beaches. There is not much public beach, most of the beach belongs to hotels.
The resort of Yasmine has been set up in a way that makes you not want to leave. Unless you are jumping into a taxi (there are plenty available) or familiar with the buses and louages it is not really viable to walk anywhere but within the resort, so it is understandable why most people do not leave the resort of Yasmine. In many ways it is beautiful, but at the same time to me it felt like a tourist trap.
No local people live in Yasmine Hammamet. They only work here and travel back to Hammamet to their homes. This is a purpose built resort for tourists, similar to Port el Kantaoui but far more beautiful, with a price tag to show for it. There is also a small ice-skating rink and a supermarket in Yasmine, but please bear in mind that alcohol in the supermarket cannot be purchased after 8pm.
I would definitely visit this resort again, as I enjoyed my stay here.

The resort was a very bustling place typical of most north african countries in the medina if you gave a firm no it was respected their was of course "the waiter" from your hotel who had served you breakfast that very morning but apart from this a very enjoyable experience lots of historical sites to visit all priced very reasonably.
Lots of trips out and watersports for the active and visit to Yasmine Hammamet highly recommended a very lively bustling and new purpose built resort.

not much to do in the area unless you are prepared to travel.the approach to the beach was a bit scruffy but once there it is beautiful and you get a great tan. the beach restaurant did great food, we personally recommend the peppered steak and fruit.we went on a few day trips including the pirate ship which we didn't enjoy very much. we do recommend the camel trip as it is great fun but wear trousers as it is very hot and it is a long trip. overall we had a lovely holiday and will be returning again in the near future.
