The beach wasn't clean and the hotel allocated area was too small and disgusting. Broken sunbeds and chairs and only about 30 beds for the hotel guests!
Walking further down the beach it was clean and other hotels offered a better area to stay for the day, with plenty of water sports.

The port is lovely a few shops in the pretty Marina down to the left of the Palace, and a supermarket opposite. To the otherside get a taxi just down the road and there is a leather factory however nextdoor there is a shop called Hawaii, which sells the same things cheaper. We didnt like sousse and would not recomend medinas or markets to women travelling alone they are very scary.

The Resort's main feature is the marina and the Avenue of the Fountain. It's large fountain with classical music surrounded by little souvenir shops, bistros, restaurants and bars and is very picturesque. Unfortunately the toilets tend to be dirty, with no paper and foul smelling. The beach was very nice in parts and we persuaded someone from a five star hotel to rent us a couple of sun loungers for the day so we could relax in clean and quieter surroundings.
We came on holiday for some peace and quiet but we didn't achieve this. The biggest most serious problem for us about our holiday was the constant hassle we got from traders, taxi drivers etc who see the tourist as a form of income. We had no intention of shopping and were often the target of rude remarks because we didn't want to buy things. We noticed that the locals didn't receive the same treatment!
We have holidayed around the world from the far West to the East and most in-between but I am afraid Tunisia is not for us.

We stayed in Port El Kantaoui It smelt dreadful of drains, and the ammount of flies was unbelievable.
There was nothing at all to do outside of the hotel.
The only good thing about El Kantaoui is the beach and the people who I found to be really friendly

Entertainment is low key. As for everything else this resort is the best and we will return for sure very soon.

The area is not you normal spanish type holiday,
THe beach is nice could do with a little clean up.
The men love the ladies and can get a little upsetting at times.
The marina is lovley with nice shops bars and places to eat.
If you only like english type food you wont get it in tunisia.
I would go back again but not for a good few years.

The resort centre (Port el Kantaoui) was about 20 minutes walk from our hotel, and it was a walk we made a lot in our two weeks. First thing you may notice when walking around PeK is that the drainage system leaves a lot to be desired, and you can encounter some ‘interesting’ odours.
As you approach the resort, you will probably be approached by one or more Jasmine flower boys – these are small boys trying to sell you a small bunch of Jasmine flowers – they are persistent, and if/when you don’t buy them, they may make a gesture to you, verbal or otherwise – just ignore it, and try not to be offended. Sometimes they will shove a bunch into your hand and walk off, but don’t think they have given you a free gift – if they realise you aren’t gonna give them any money for the flowers, they’ll quickly take them back! One of their tricks was to drop a bunch onto our sons lap as he sat in his buggy, hoping he would want to keep them - but we taught to say ‘no thank you’ in Arabic!
At the resort entrance you have the arched entrance to the marina on your left, and the entrance to the town square on your right. The marina has a 2/3 storey souvenir shop at its entrance – this is fixed price, but still very reasonable. Around the marina there is a great selection of restaurants, where you can eat or just sit on fro drinks. Word of note – a lot of the restaurants are not allowed to sell Alcohol, so the lager will be non-alcoholic. This that are allowed, will display the fact.
There are also lots of shops/stalls around the marina, but all of these are the barter/haggle type, where they will try and get you in and make a deal with you.
Next to the marina entrance is a small botanical garden type zoo, which has many small and large birds (incl. Ostriches) and baby camels.
In the main town square, if a large fountain, which has a music and light show of an evening, which the water ‘dances’ in time with. Around the fountain, there are more restaurants, café bars and shops, again most of the shops will want to barter with you, not really fixed price.
Next to the main square is Hannibal Park, a decent sized childrens amusement park, which also has a small ‘medina’ style market – I got dragged into one shop, and almost wasn’t allowed out!!!
Around the resort, there are loads of taxis, and a ‘noddy’ train which can be taken from the main road outside hotels down to the marina, or it can be taken all the way through to Sousse, which we did one day.
Overall, we liked PeK, though felt it a bit limited, and we were going to many of the same places within our two weeks. However, we are going back in July 2007, though staying at the Marhaba Palace hotel next time, which is right next to the marina. We also plan to go on a few more trips next time, and try and see a bit more of Tunisia outside the resort.
As for the Tunisian people, we found them to be very polite, and while the haggling/bartering can get tiresome, it is just their way of life, and you just have to learn to go along with it.
Overall, I would recommend Port el Kantaoui as a great first visit to Tunisia.

The marina is brilliant, lovely scene as soon as you walk in. Plenty of shops, bars and restruants for all kinds. The main problems are the shop owners harass you constantly and even at times link arms with you and walk you around the shop. If you want to haggle don't go down to the marina. Opposite the marina entrance the is a different section where you can haggle for better prices but becareful check each shops prices before you purchase anything as you can get ripped of easlily. Beware of local men as they always perve at you!
