The Resort is virtually a traffic free zone and only allows in the odd taxi and occasional car. There are a couple of fountains situated around the shops and cafes on one side of Port El Kantoui.

On the Port side there are a number of shops and cafes. There is a small zoo and a fun-fair for the children. There are a number of shops selling jewellery but don't be fooled into thinking that any of it is real gold even if it has a hall mark as it is most likely to be gold plated. There is one jewellers on the port which makes it quite clear which jewellery is 18 karat and which is gold-plated. You have ben warned as the locals will try to convince you that you are buying real gold and so will charge you accordingly.

The culture of the locals is to haggle and get the best price but the best thing is to look at what you want to buy and half what you would pay in at home. You need to have several visits to the area to know how to handle the locals but on the whole just be polite and say no thanks if you are not interested in buying anything and you will usually be left alone.

You either love Tunisia or you don't and I love it!!

Don't know what this resort would be like in the height of summer as we saw it off peak and it was quiet and easy to get around. Suspect it would be a wonderland for pickpockets etc. The Rep did tell us not to get our wallet out on the beach as it would be snatched.

The marina and the fountain area (not working) seemed to have an over abundance of 'fast food' type outlets, however there were two excellent lunchtime places for local cuisine and a nice bottle of wine - Olivers and the ship. We attempted to go out one evening to see if the musical fountains were working - No- and to see if there was anything else going on No.

The resort doews not have many bars near the hotel as it is all mostly hotel based.Around the port there are a wide selection of cafes and restaurants selling food and drinks at very cheap prices. The resort is so clean it is unbelievable. The beach is gorgeous, white sand that feels so soft its smoother than bread crumbs.I would visit this resort again in a few years as i have no complaints.

Port El Kantaoui was very pretty! The shops were good.
The hotel was a taxi ride, or a thirty minute walk away so I have to say we did not visit on a night time. The port was clean, the beach lovely even though it was not beach weather!

the marina was a favourite haunt for me and it was spotlessly clean, very impressive.
didnt try any entertainment outside out hotel but guests who did said it was ok but expensive to drink.
the beach looked glorious although wasnt really warm enough for us to sit around until last few days.
i loved the resort and its so central i think it is a definite repeat holiday for us

The resort itself was clean and well maintained.
Entertainment was of a very poor quality, both in and outside the hotel the discos were empty, the music repetative and the drinks very expensive. Local lads very quickly attached themselves two my two sons who were so bored they were willing to pay for their drinks just for the chat. Shops closed around teatime.
Clienta are encouraged to hotel hop in search of entertainment, we found out that our hotel provided the best and most regular.
Highlight for us was the three day safari, which is the same as the two day only not so rushed and no 4.30am starts, would have paid double for this trip to escape the tedium that we suffered after the initial settling in period.
It was cold and the beach was deserted apart from the obligatory camel-ride or quad- bike salesman. You couldn't take a trip anywhere without somebody selling something getting in your face. Even strolling on the marina involved a barrage of sales touts offering boat rides, retaurants and sales pitches. Felt very invasive, they remembered anything you told them and used it in their sales pitch on your next visit. Towards the end of the second week when they realised that we weren't likely to buy they ignored us.

Absolutely not. Did not like the in your face attitude of locals, the food was tasteless, the service contrived and tip oriented, and privacy non existent. Entertainment was of a very poor standard.

The First Choice rep (Lisa) was fine - a rare event these days. (I have an increasingly jaded opinion of holiday firms, travel agents and in-resort service). The nearby soft white sand beach was attractive, but poorly serviced. On orders from the hotel the beach bar stopped serving snacks, even though the beach was fully populated.

Excusions were superb & great value - El Jem, the Sahara & Carthage -all unique & interesting trips.

Outside the hotel grounds, the local environs was frankly unattractive, unkempt & just plain awful - nowhere to walk to at night, unless you hopped into PEK by taxi - itself a custom-built open tourist mall hardly worth more than one trip to be honest.

The Beach was less than 2 minutes down the road with a lovely white sanded beach for the Vinnci guests, although everyday we would get hassled for Quad Bikes, Camel Rides and boat trips, it was an enjoyable place to spend time, to sunbath, swim and eat.

The Mariner was a short walk away but felt quite intimadated walking down there at night as the were still people hassling to eat and drink in their restaurants, and the constent call of Hashish for Sale.

Although these would have been nice not to encounter was easy to ignore the 'pot pushers' and the restaurant staff didnt wonder too far from their tables. Sousse was a short taxi ride for the Port about 5 Dinar £2.

Loved the winter sun and made sum friends with the locals too, mainly friendly.

PS I could have come home with at least 5,000 camels in exchange for my girlfriend, but they were only joking, a form of being friendly.
