Only visited Sousse City on 2 occasions. Went to the fixed price gift shop for all out nick-nacks. (Excellent leather sandels)
Found Sousse somewhat un-developed, lots of begging children and hassle from the shop/stall sellers around the medina. Not a pleasant experience but NOT as bad as we expected.

The resort in general was smelly (of sewers)in places. there wasn't much entertainment in resort except that we went to the other sister hotels nearby for better entertainment (tour khalef and the mahabra beach hotel) in the hotel complex grounds. The beach was up to a reasonable standard. The indoor pool was quite good but needing a bit of updating as all four hotels in the complex could use it. It was 10ft deep (deep end) and 25yds long with a keep fit gym and massage parlours within the building. You need them after ascending and descending the stairs. We would not stay at that hotel again but the tour khalef if we were to return.

We stayed in the resort of Skanes, very little there, quiet and mainly filled with hotels. One bar called Safari with some shops and thats about it. Ok for relaxing but forget anything else. However the minute we walked out of the hotel we were constantly hounded by offering of taxis, horse rides and alike. All we wanted was a walk in the sun but felt we had not option but to go back to the safety and friendlyness of the hotel. Visited Monastir one day which was hounding gone mad. Never stopped badgering us to look in their shops, show us round etc. Again, virtually straight back to hotel. Stayed away from Sousse due to bad reports of pick-pockets, bag snatchers and even worse, kiddy pinchers, no thank you. Wouldn't go back to the resort again but hotel itself was execptional.

Sousse is a nice departure point for those interested in the Tunisian way of life and history. We visited the capital Tunis, the Bardo museum, Carthago, El Katoui, the local museums in Sousse, the Sunday-market, the catacombs and even the doors of some mosques did open up after talking with the people and giving some money to the Iman for the poor.
We did not sunbath but walked on the beach which appeared clean. In all we enjoyed our time and consider that it was very good value for money.
To be recommended.

The beach was nice & water was safe [the only good thing about holiday].
The resort itself was smelly, dirty and not deserving of being called a holiday resort.
The people in the markets were very rude and if you didnt stop to look or buy got quite angry.
Please just a warning do not waste money on this resort.

What can I say, lesson learnt. Took my 13 year old daughter and her friend, what a complete nightmare! I got totaly fed up of the constant unwelcome attention they drew from the local men (both young and old), which at times was quite intimidating. The shop keepers in the medina can also be both intimidating and very rude. But hey if you want a cheap holiday and like the whole hassel thing then go for it.
We would go back but not with the kids.

Where we stayed had hotels around,a shop and a golf course. We were only a short taxi ride away from monastir, sousse and port el kantaoui.
Taxis are really cheap. We went to these three towns and found them all great. My favourite one was port el kantaoui. Again every where you go they always made you feel welcome.
If you go shopping just remember to haggle, you can get them right down.If you dont like to haggle there is a fixed price shop in sousse.
Weather was fantistic you could not fault it. It only rainned one day and that was for about two hours, but it was still hot.
All in all we had a fantistec time and as I said booking again for next year to stop in the same hotel

Sousse is a very vibrant area with lots to see and do. There is a medina, which has to be one of the best in Tunisia selling everything from trinkets,to clothes and beds.
The soula centre is just at the beginning of the medina and here you can buy items at fixed prices if you dont want to bother with haggling. Inside the medina is also the mosque and a ribat and a museum. A short walk away from the medina (about 10 minutes) is the metro station where you can travel to monastir and mahdia for a fraction of the price of taxi fare.
Also there is sousse ville station where you can get the train to Tunis, Gafsa, Sfax, El Jem, etc. There are many hotels providing entertainment. The beach is large in sousse and stretches for miles. Here you are able to do all watersports, or lounge on the bach, a lounger costs around 2TND.
The beach is very busy, especially at the weekends when Tunisians frequent the beach. Many hotels have their own space on the beach. Sousse is not a purpose built resort like Kantaoui or Yasmine Hammamet but a working city and for some it can be very busy. It's easy to get to anywhere in Tunisia from Sousse as it is Tunisia's 3rd major city after Tunis and Sfax.
There is a large louage station called Tafarla on the outskirts of Sousse which makes travel cheap by sharing the cost with other passengers. Sousse is alive 24 hours a day.
It's one of my favourite cities in Tunisia.

Sousse is noisy, smelly, chaotic. However it is colourful and interesting, and if you just love people watching like we do then you will enjoy it.
We visited in ramadan, and went to the medina in the evening, the atmosphere was amazing, as hundreds of stallholders put out their wares.
Do watch out for pickpockets though, my hubby got his wallet stolen last year at Sousse market, and he caught someone in the act trying to get into his pocket this year.
We will come back here again sometime.
