sousse itself is a working town/port and u are aware of some smells but its all part of this fact.
have your wits about you as they said there was pickpockets and be firm when u dont want to buy something cos u keep getting invited into shops!!
it can get very busy around the medina and a bit daunting so be firm and aware of your surroundings and enjoy it.
the beach promenade is a lovely walk to the town and not so crowded.the sousse beach is very clean and soft sand.there are quite a few bars and some discos so there is something for everyone.
i would visit tunisia again but not sousse.

We only went out a few times from the complex, but what we did see was clean. A trip on a tuk tuk and the noddy train is a must, it was so funny.
Can't comment on the resort entertainment, as majority of our stay was round the hotel.
All in all a really great holiday, I found it so relaxing, no larger louts, or people being sick on the streets, we would definalty go back to the Marhaba complex.
Happy hols to anyone holidaying in the Marahaba complex :)

If you leave the hotel, prepare to be harassed by locals and traders to the point of not wanting to leave the hotel grounds, and some of the local areas are a definate no-go, which we learnt through a bad experience. Most of the shops sell the exact same thing at greatly different prices. However Port El Kantoue's marina and fountain area is well worth the noddy train ride there.

on our last night. we were told to get the train from outside the hotel at eight o clock which cost us 42 dinas for all of us. we were not told that the train then went to all the other hotels before going to monastair it was ten o clock before we managed to feed our children.the city is awful no one leaves you alone they are basically begging you to go in the shops and when we were ready to go home we asked some taxis drivers how much for three taxis they gave us a price, we said we would get back to them round the corner we asked some other taxi drivers they were cheaper so we obvisouly said we would go with them, however the other taxi drivers spotted this and came over and was arguing with the other drivers it ended up in a fight all for our taxi fair!!!. when in the taxi the driver was driving like a lunatic, i was in the taxi with my friend and our two 8 months old daughters, i couldn't hold on to my baby tight enough i was a nervous wreck when we got back and the taxi driver still tried to increase the fair once outside the hotel. my husband told him to go away putting it politly.

The hotel is about 45 minutes walk from Sousse and if you don't fancy this a taxi ride is very cheap costing around £1.00. The are plenty of lovely restaurants in Sousse and lots of vendas selling delicious sandwiches. We made one journey on the Tuck Tuck which is a very small open bus but the one time was the last time!! Although just the once we did come across some children begging and who were promptly ushered away by a member of the public. Also if you are a lady be aware of any small boys offering you a flower, after accepting it you are expected to pay for it!! Oce you are aware of the negatives these can be avoided and you can be assured of a lovely time and an experience bartering in the medina. If you don't fancy bartering the Soula Centre is the place for you, here there is no bargaining and the prices are set. There are some lovely souveniers to take home.

The beach had too much cigarette stubs, seaweed and other rubbish. There was a good selection of shops and restaurants close to the hotel. It was very easy to access Sousse Medina and Port El Kantaoui.

the resort itself is ok, Sousse is bustling and busy, there is some litter around and some unfinished building work
Entertainment is hotel based and there are 4 or 5 in close proximity that you can choose between. The resort shops are open at night so you can have a wander round in the evening.Taxi prices go up after 9.30pm but they are still cheap, just agree a price before you set off.
We visited the waterpark in Port el Kantoui. Dont bother going unless your kids are under 8. Its very basic and is nothing like the big parks in places like Spain
The beach is lovely, there is a bit of litter. We were upset to see the ammount of cigarette ends about the place, ashtrays would be useful. There are salesman on the beach but usually a firm no sends them on their way, only the odd one is more troublesome, and to be honest a bit of hassle is worth it for the view.
A good place for a holiday, just be prepared for something different. Its not the Costa del Sol so if thats what yuou are looking for dont bother. Just keep an open mind and you will have a good time, and when you get home you will appreciate just how good your life is compared to the standards in Tunisia, many people are very poor.
