A lot of the resort was a building site, with new properties going up all over.
If you dont mind been bothered in street by people to get you in their bars, Altinkum is a real nice place for a holiday.

Altinkum is a lovely place with loads of shops, bars and restaurants - so many you get spoilt for choice.
The beaches were clean with sunbed and parasol hire for next to nothing a day.
The people were very nice and friendly although some of the waiters were a bit pushy but at the end of the day it's their job to get you in the restaurant and to get there 10% commission.
Can't wait to go back next year

Our first impression of Altinkum was 'Blackpool' - then when we had a look around and found the restaurants all seemed to have egg and chips, chips and beans, etc, on the menu, we realised it must be the Benidorm of Turkey.
We had to hunt around to find a Lokanta which sold some traditional Turkish fare.
The beach was littered with cigarette butts, bottle tops and empty plastic drinks bottles, which together with the large groups of loud, boorish, football playing, yobs, limited our visits to the mornings - before they fell out of bed.
The resort is ideal if you want a loud, drunken, clubbing holiday, but steer clear if you want to relax and just chill !
The loungers and umbrellas on the beach incur a daily fee, which a poster says go to upgrade the area. We came to the conclusion that the money goes to upgrade Didim, the lovely town, 10 mins or so up the road on the dolmus, which has retained it's Turkish identity, and has lots of Municipal building work on-going. Also worth a visit is the nearby Temple of Apollo.
Altinkum itself was dirty, poorly maintained, full of people trying to sell you a property, (as if) and is easily the worst Turkish resort we have had the misfortune to visit.
We did meet some lovely Turkish people as always, but I can honestly say that we never want to set foot in Altinkum, and especially the Burak Hotel again in our lives.

On the whole a pleasant resort, although be prepared to get pestered by every restaurant, shop market trader some of whom can be very abusive if you don't buy from them. There were a lot of lively bars with mostly English themes.
The beach was clean but very shallow for a long way out.
There are no local women about everything is run by men.
We went on the British boat one day, it was very good and hassle free.

Altinkum is a lovely place and believe me I've been all over the world.
The beach is safe and gently shelves down for children, the water is crystal clear and hardly any waves at all.
The sand is cleaned through everyday (we used to watch the men doing this every day with their machines)
The men who stand outside the restaurants drove us mad, trying to get us into their restaurants (they need to bring a law out against this - because it's very off putting) You need to tell them you are on a half board basis at your hotel and they get the messege!!!
We didn't go into any of the restaurants that we were beckoned into, we walked round and choose where there was none of this. (Their loss, let's hope they read this)
Altinkum is a up and coming place, you can opt for lively nightlife or quiet chatting with the locals
I would definitely recommended it, in fact we brought a apartment to rent out for the 2005.

Can't realy say much about Altinkum as we only went in once. The people did seem friendly.
There were a lot of shops selling very poor fakes of teeshirts such as Diesel and Von Dutch(think that's how you spell it!!!)

This was our first holiday to Turkey - our appetite being whet by a daytrip to Bodrum when we were staying in Kos.
Altinkum is a fantastic resort. Set along a wide bay, it's beaches are spacious, umbrellas and sunbeds cheap (£1 per item per day), and the promenade looks very new - all brick paved with palm trees and raised verges. Along the prom there are the usual bars and restaurants as well as tourist shops. There is really no bad location to be, and the Orion is at the quieter end. As you walk into the centre the bars become louder, the resort busier, and the beer a bit more pricey! Beer is typically 50p - £1 for a large bottle in most of the beach bars (exchange rate was 2600000TL to £1), meals are around £5 - £10 each for two courses with choice ranging from fish and chips to traditional Turkish fayre.
Altinkum is also where the Turks go on their holidays, so there is a good mix of people.
There are two excursions which you must go on - Ephesus and Pamakkale. Ephesus is a rebuilt ancient city which is breath-taking. You walk down the same streets as the residents used to thousands of years ago. In Pamakkale you get the unique experience of wading in calcium pools. Over the years the natural springs have deposited the calcium over the hills making it look snow-topped from a distance. In fact it is solid chalk - quite beautiful.
You will get hassled by restaurant staff desperate to get you to eat at their establishment, but as long as you reply and take it in the way it is meant (do not take offence) then there is no real problem and you quickly get used to it.
If you are a football fan there are numerous bars which show every game they can - Linekers and the British Bar are just across the road from the Orion and very good for sport.
The easiest and cheapest way to get around is to use the local dolmus (minibus). You simply flag them down, tell them where you want to go and it will cost you very little (a 10 minute journey to the Temple of Apollo, which cannot be missed, cost us just 30p each!). It can seem a little daunting at first, but they are used to tourists!
All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would recommend Altinkum and the Orion to couples and families of all ages.

The best thing about the resort is the beach!! Except for getting stung by a poisonous fish (could happen in any ocean or sea), the beach was one of the best I've ever seen.
As I said before, the constant harrasment by restaurants and shop keepers deminished what would have otherwise been a superior holiday. If the waiters spent more time serving and less time letching, the food might actually get to the table hot. One waiter in particular felt it necessary to begin and end every sentence with "My man." You cannot imagine how annoying this can get by the third course.
