OMG sounds like a nightmare Gramps. Its changed from last year, with the fella standing taking in the forms etc, but its not improved, if anything its got worse!!
There is a Visa Surgery in Glasgow as well, which is also horrific, and I was going to give it a miss and go thru to Edinburgh, but now it seems like the Glasgow Surgery will be our better option. Its like being between the devil and the deep blue sea
Thanks
Please note that all visa queries should be posted on the thread we already have. You can also comment on the situation on the visa discussion thread. Where queries are made outwith these threads I will merge to the relevant thread.I'm sure you can appreciate that if I allowed every query to have its own thread(esp in the present situation) we would be swamped with them
I wouldn't go to the High Commission tomorrow. I have heard of massive queues and a fair bit of backlog. So he probably will not get any visa tomorrow.
They are handing out Queue cards for people to come back another day and of course tomorrow will be a day of issuing visas to people from last week.
If they say no then it is no and we have seen many examples of this. I would suggest he waits until the postal strikes are over as people seem to be going in person rather than using the agents for post.
You have also got the people who always go in person for a same day visa, which makes it busy enough. You also have the people who will be travelling this week.
If he does go then good luck to him!
You cant tell him, hes going early as he works shifts its difficult. If he has to return and it doesnt fit in with his shifts then I will take a day off. I dont want to risk the post as they will have a backlog and dont need the hassle and worry of getting the passports back. i know we arnt going till 10th November but I would much rather have them in my possesion and in our holiday folder where I can drool over them haha.

I do think it could well be chaos next week. With the postal strikes those who might have posted to agents may have to attend in person.
I will let you know tomorrow how he got on.

Hi there everyone, I hope someone has a better memory than I do but I'm sure that someone has posted on the forum, that they (or someone they knew) attended a visa surgery and was able to obtain a 1 year tourist visa, if anyone can shed some light on this I would be grateful as HO is going to stand in line next Saturday and if there is a chance that he is able to obtain a one year visa, then he wants to have the correct amount in postal orders on him, seeing as we are flying out on the 11th of November and it would be good if our visa covered us for our return next easter time
I think it was Towpal.
Sorry Goanluv I corrected it and no gin today
love Lyn x
Stupid me , no one told me there was a postal strike, nor did the counter assistant in the Post Office. Anyway they went last wednesday,3/10/07.
Anyone else from south of the border sent them to Edinburgh?
I don't go until 10/11 but this situation is becoming more and more farcical every year. Maybe time for a change.
I phoned up Edinburgh and was told :- Only accepting postal app's for people with Scottish addresses and the same goes for personal visiters for visa's. Apparently they have been inundated with requests for visa's from south of the border. Hope this helps in some small way
Only advice I can give to anyone going to a surgery is get there very early, and take a flask of something hot to drink.
Saying that the time waiting passed quickly cos we met some great people whilst waiting
But, theres always a but, if you are in the system , as my applications are, they will honour them, but again there are considerable delays, up to 3 weeks.
So fingers crossed everything is OK
The Indians are starting to build that wall again!!!!!
OH got at there 8:30 this morning. At 11:50 he was given a ticket to return on Friday. He said there was hundreds of people in front of him and the queue was even longer behind him. What it seems like they are doing is issuing numbers for people to return. I dont think anyone who turns up is seen on the day anymore. At the start of the queue the ticket was for Thursday by the time it was his turn it was Friday and the people behind got a ticket for Monday.
Just bear in mind you probably wont get your visa on the 1st day you queue. I feel sorry for people who have to travel far to the embassy. They are going to have to make to journey's.
The situation at the London office is incredible but, I suppose, inevitable. Thank god I got mine a month ago (not going until December but decided to get it early) - I sort of expected these delays to happen once people realised that postal applications were over. Let's hope it all settles down.
