Well I have been trying to tell my OH about the visa situation at the London office and he doesnt believe it, he is going tomorrow morning. Can anyone who has been recently recommend a time that he should get there to ensure he will be able to get it on the day.
Thanks

Please note that all visa queries should be posted on the thread we already have. You can also comment on the situation on the visa discussion thread. Where queries are made outwith these threads I will merge to the relevant thread.I'm sure you can appreciate that if I allowed every query to have its own thread(esp in the present situation) we would be swamped with them

Hi Ginlizzy,

I wouldn't go to the High Commission tomorrow. I have heard of massive queues and a fair bit of backlog. So he probably will not get any visa tomorrow.

They are handing out Queue cards for people to come back another day and of course tomorrow will be a day of issuing visas to people from last week.

If they say no then it is no and we have seen many examples of this. I would suggest he waits until the postal strikes are over as people seem to be going in person rather than using the agents for post.

You have also got the people who always go in person for a same day visa, which makes it busy enough. You also have the people who will be travelling this week.

If he does go then good luck to him!

Thanks RicherRich
You cant tell him, hes going early as he works shifts its difficult. If he has to return and it doesnt fit in with his shifts then I will take a day off. I dont want to risk the post as they will have a backlog and dont need the hassle and worry of getting the passports back. i know we arnt going till 10th November but I would much rather have them in my possesion and in our holiday folder where I can drool over them haha.

I do think it could well be chaos next week. With the postal strikes those who might have posted to agents may have to attend in person.

:) Hi there everyone, I hope someone has a better memory than I do but I'm sure that someone has posted on the forum, that they (or someone they knew) attended a visa surgery and was able to obtain a 1 year tourist visa, if anyone can shed some light on this I would be grateful as HO is going to stand in line next Saturday and if there is a chance that he is able to obtain a one year visa, then he wants to have the correct amount in postal orders on him, seeing as we are flying out on the 11th of November and it would be good if our visa covered us for our return next easter time

Thanks

I just come across Gramps comments about the Edinburgh HCI.He states they are only accepting Scottish applications in person. I have been going there for years but it was so bad last year I decided to post them.

Stupid me , no one told me there was a postal strike, nor did the counter assistant in the Post Office. Anyway they went last wednesday,3/10/07.

Anyone else from south of the border sent them to Edinburgh?

I don't go until 10/11 but this situation is becoming more and more farcical every year. Maybe time for a change.

HI Rokerender and everyone else,
I phoned up Edinburgh and was told :- Only accepting postal app's for people with Scottish addresses and the same goes for personal visiters for visa's. Apparently they have been inundated with requests for visa's from south of the border. Hope this helps in some small way

Went to Visa surgery in Bradford on Saturday, in queue from 5.45am, was number 14, people ahead of us the queue has been there since 4.30am, worth going early as got all the visas and out by 10.30am, by the length of the queue it looked like lots of people were going to be disappointed. The were aiming to issue 400 visas, and at number 14 in the queue they were already up to 50 visas issued.
Only advice I can give to anyone going to a surgery is get there very early, and take a flask of something hot to drink.
Saying that the time waiting passed quickly cos we met some great people whilst waiting

Just phoned HCI Edinburgh and told that they are accepting no more applications , either personal or by post form England. The reason being that they have been inundated by English applications and have had to stop them.

But, theres always a but, if you are in the system , as my applications are, they will honour them, but again there are considerable delays, up to 3 weeks.

So fingers crossed everything is OK

Just to update you.
OH got at there 8:30 this morning. At 11:50 he was given a ticket to return on Friday. He said there was hundreds of people in front of him and the queue was even longer behind him. What it seems like they are doing is issuing numbers for people to return. I dont think anyone who turns up is seen on the day anymore. At the start of the queue the ticket was for Thursday by the time it was his turn it was Friday and the people behind got a ticket for Monday.
Just bear in mind you probably wont get your visa on the 1st day you queue. I feel sorry for people who have to travel far to the embassy. They are going to have to make to journey's.

The situation at the London office is incredible but, I suppose, inevitable. Thank god I got mine a month ago (not going until December but decided to get it early) - I sort of expected these delays to happen once people realised that postal applications were over. Let's hope it all settles down.
