MK61 its took since friday till wednesday to reach bolton it must be due to the postal strike and it was by special delivery.

Well Oh picked our visa's up today. He got to London at 8:30 but they would not let him in until the time on his ticket 10:30 so if you have a ticket dont bother getting there earlier than the time it states on your ticket.He did mention that there was quite a few people getting angry in the queue outside when they found out they were queuing up for a ticket and not a visa.
Thankyou Ginlizzy my OH was going to go himself for the visa's but we have decided to use one of the local travel agents in the eastend of london so we can take them to them and then pick them up, dont like the idea of putting them in the post. Cheers Maureen

Sorry - I know I'm repeating myself - but no one replied and I'm still unsure of this -
Think we're gonna be using Puja Travel and send of for our visas asap. Not sure when we'll be booking though, so what do you suggest we put for 'arrival in india' - could be this year..could be after christmas - and Name/address of 2 referees? Normally just do one referee being the hotel name.
Downloaded the forms from High Commission Of India London website.

It might be simpler just to wait until you have made up your mind - if you leave, say, one month's grace to get the visas sorted. If you are not thinking of travelling until at least December you have plenty of time. Other than that, why not ring up Puja travel and ask them what you should do.
Re referees, I only put down one - the Manager of the hotel I am staying in and visas have never been refused because I don't have two.

What has happened to the address for tracking down my visa i can,t find it now..(probably blind as a bat) 
It is http://www.royalmail.com and then put in the number under the agents address on your special delivery envelope. Just doing that for myself!

We are off 10th Nov for 4 weeks. I think I may participate in a large one this evening to celibrate getting the visa's. Good luck to anyone visiting the embassy. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes for standing.

1st December - land 2nd for 4 weeks Alone the first week OH couldn't get time I could - he's suggested it but am a little nervous but also excited.

Got our visas this morning. I had sent them to Edinburgh and when I phoned they said they were not doing anymore English applications, but they would honour ours.
Sent on the 3rd October, so pretty quick, even with a postal strike.
All that worrying for nothing. Off on the 10th November, perhaps Ginlizzy will buy the drinks????

I hope you didn't send them to Edinburgh - that really would confuse them.
I've got the feeling that there might be a few spare seats on the plane.Friends of mine went to Birmingham ,took one look at the queue, at 6am, and went straight back home, and they go before us.
