I am sorry they don't, if you read the small print you must be in possession of a passport and any visa's that are required before you actually book. Which 90% of the time when we book to go to places like Goa we arn't, but the rules still apply.

BUT wouldnt this be a good case for putting up a fight. Its not the tourists fault that the embassy isn't pulling its weight!!

i wouldn't think that you have a hope in hells chance, it is up to you to arrange to get the visa's in time for your flight. There are thousands of people who are going to Goa this year, who don't even know about this visa situation, I think that there will be a few hundred that will not get there.

But it is the responsibility of the passport holder to apply for the visa's, and if you are holidaying through a travel agency, I think that you will find that when you sign the documents, you are signing to say that it is up to yourself to arrange the visa, it is nothing to do with the travel or insurance agents.

It is a pity that this situation isn't more well known, it may save some heartbreak.

I am sure I read on the London HCI website that you should not make any travel arrangements until you have your visa so what the hell are they playing at.

I have been reading the posts about travel insurance and the postal strikes.

Goanluv, I don't think there is much of a fight you can put up. There is only so much they can do in one day.

The postal strikes have lead to more people going in person to the High Commission and with the queues they have to deal with are mental. It is not really possible for them to issue all the visas on the same day now.

Travel insurance will not pay out and complaining will not either. Basically, you haven't really got a leg to stand on! Mainly, because all visas should be obtained before flights and/or hotels are booked. This is on the HCI website.

Seems to me its always the tourist that suffers when something goes pear shaped and which is out of our control. I don't expect any of us get our visa in advance of booking our holiday, I know we don't. The main reason for this, in our case, is so that we can do a second trip on the same visa if we want to (prob the same for most of you). I guess this HCI recommendation is so they can force us into reapplying and to shell out even more of our hard earned cash. They aren't stupid - but they must think that we are  My daughter is still awaiting the return of her (and OH) visa's and we all fly on Nov 4th - just hope that they arrive as flight tickets came today. Out of 10 previous trips to Goa, getting this one organised has caused us the most stress

We went to get our visas last week. We arrived at 8am, queued in the rain for 3.5 hours until we got a timed ticket to come back at 2pm. We eventually walked out of there with our visas at 4pm! Long day!

Well I don't know about the rest of you, but my holiday has been booked since March, and I'm sure some people have theirs booked even earlier, so as the visa last 6 months it is not feasible to actually apply for it prior to booking your holiday - catch 22 really

I thought Special Delivery is Royal Mail. Was this not affected by the strike?

Special Delivery was affected yes. Royal Mail said they would do their best to get things from A to B, but could not guarantee times / days that it would be delivered.

:yikes I sent our visa's off too yourtravelshop in bolton on the 8th oct they recieved them on the 9th oct and they are STILL in their shop..

Apparently birmingham have a back log of visa's to get through and birmingham will only allow yourtravelshop to leave 30 aday what a shock.

I was expecting ours back this week does'nt look like it now the lady i spoke to on the phone did assure me that mine will be back in time for our hols.

I'm starting to tremble and panic WHAT IF springs to mind. :omg

why have the visas in the first place? i know it is a good money making racket for the indian government. could they not put fee on your flight when you book it, then just take the money from the airlines when they pay the airport taxes? the longer you stay the more you pay or is this to complicated of a process. if i end up missing my holiday (booked 12 months ago) because i cant get my visa, as much as i love goa i don, t think i will be booking again. andy
