Xacuti is usually made with Chicken.
One thing I would say.. The so called Goan restaurants I have tried in Britain have been rubbish. I even had an argument with a waiter on the spelling and pronunciation of their menu.
It went something like this:
Him "What would you like"
Me "Chicken Xacuti please"
Him "The Chicken shaaaaa-kooooo-teeee-yaaaaaaa"
Me "No, the Chicken Xacuti"
chilly
Anyway, I was dying for a pee, so I asked my old man to go on a toilet reckie
He came back and said I had to see this one its a classic. So I followed him around the corner and it was a typical indian toilet, no door also. So he held a towel up and I went into full flow while the traffic went by. Just about 20 ft away an old man loaded his truck with water, so what does OM do, he drops the towel and runs back to the bar. I nearly died of shock and shouted for him to come back. The old man turned round and saw my look of horror and started laughing, I could not stop peeing to save my life . I grabbed my towel and was just about to leg it back to the bar and I heard a grunting noise, I walked around the back of the building and there was pigs licking up my pee.
Well Chilly, I had bacon on toast for brecky and I can tell you I havent touched it since
Going to Goa for the first time on 19th and must admit all this talk about toilets has put me off Pork (previously my favourite meat) for life!
chilly
Most of the toilets now are the septic tank type. There's very few piggies running around these days. Well in South Goa anyway. A lot of the Pork comes from proper farms so I wouldn't worry about bacon and the like. I do suspect however that the Goa sausages being sold in the market are made by pigs that live in the villages so God knows what they eat.
I would take a hell of a lot of persuading to entice me with a goan sausage or a rasher whilst in Goa
I also love the tomato soup ( i know i dont sound too adventerous do i) haha
i always have a chicken balti nearly everynight, id live off the stuff if i could
The samosas at Anjuna market were made and cooked fresh and are the best I've ever tasted, and the vegetable fried rice at the top of Vagator was excellent. The lunch at the Spice Plantation was excellent too.
Oh, and the garlic butter naans. Mmmm! Next time it isn't a beach holiday in Goa, it's an eating holiday...
This is making me sooooooooooo hungry i'm planning my first lunch already.......can't decide between an aloo gobi / veg curry n rice at a shack or butter chicken.........but then again it could be palek paneer or prawn curry n rice........by the time I stagger off the dreaded Monarch flight i'll be welcoming anything
Can't wait to taste them again.
I know I shouldn't be saying this, but, Amanda, my wife loves them, and gets very excited when she burps a couple of hours later and gets the aftertaste
Also love the steaks in East meets west and butter chicken in the sports bar Candolim.
