hope a flight expert can help me here please
we have just flown with Kingfisher to Goa via Bangalore out and Mumbai on return, with 45 kgs luggage each. We have just booked Kingfisher flights again for December with a certain flight company, and he has told me its 28 kgs each and he has never heard of any airline giving 45 kgs as its against the Health and Safety Regulations.
As the baggage allowances are clearly set out on Kingfisher's own website, am I right in saying that we have 45 kgs regardless of what this flight company is telling me or do I have to accept their version of 28 kgs?
Firstly, some airlines do give you 46 kg, Bmi for example on their US and Caribbean routes (until they were dropped). I flew with them to Antigua last year, it was great! The flight company is correct that a bag of that weight would be in breach of health and safety regulations (max 32kg for manual handling). Most airlines offering that weight allow you to check-in two bags up to 23kg, or multiple bags up to the limit.
On the topic of kingfisher, you don't say where you are flying from / to? Presumably Heathrow - Balgalore - Goa as before? Baggage allowances are clearly stated on their website. From 1st Jan 2009, your allowance in Kingfisher Class is 45kg, but any one bag cannot weight more than 32kg (maximum weight that will be accepted for health and safety). Unless the company you are booking with has a deal with Kingfisher who provide a discount ticket with luggage restrictions attached (ie a cheap fare), you'll have the allowance described. I'd check it out before you book with them.

This is not unusual, I have encountered it when booking a flight direct, and a connecting flight through a booking agent direct allowance 28Kgs, booking agent 23Kg all with the same airline, It may be down to the price you pay compared to booking direct, and the 45kgs obviously would be total personal allowance of all luggage and not per case.

Apparently KingFisher has meetings over the next few days with the banks and lease companies that own its aircraft. There have been cancellations of future orders and routes (not unusual in todays climate), deferrals and further handbacks and repossessions in the last couple of weeks.
what exactly do you mean? we are booked with Kingfisher in December doing LHR-Bangalore-Goa and Goa-Mumbai-LHR coming back in january. Can we expect some routes to be pulled and flight cancellations?
Kingfisher had ordered 10 long-haul aircraft to start its international operations last year including five A340sâ€â€Âfor routes such as Bangalore-San Francisco non-stopâ€â€Âand five A330s, which would fly between India and Europe.
It sold three of the A340 planes to Arik Air last year and, after keeping two A330s grounded for at least six months in India, is now in talks to sub-lease them to the same carrier.
London route is still fine as two A330s are being used by Kingfisher to operate between Mumbai and London and ply the Bangalore-London route with one aircraft as a standby.
With no new deliveries until next year, Kingfisher may restrict its international operations to London and Colombo though it can fly to West Asia and Asia-Pacific using some of the 43 medium-haul Airbus A320 in its fleet.
The two A330s to be sub-leased out by Kingfisher were expected to be utilized by the airline on Hong Kong and Singapore flights from Mumbai, which the airline had planned to launch by January-end this never happened..
The Dubai launch was expected first in January and then postponed further and removed from the reservations systems.
Kingfisher is not the only one pulling back on international operations. Jet Airways (India) Ltd has also leased out several wide-bodied aircraft in its fleet to West Asian carriers and by next month will have nine aircraft leased out.
Also of course Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd plan to pull Mumbai-London flight from May, leaving a Delhi-London daily service as their only India operation.
