I like the sound of Kos town as there would be the old town to amble about.
Could anyone recommend any accomodation for a couple who prefers 'small & friendly' type accomodation with few children!
No Offence! I'm a parent, but child is all grown up & I teach so like to get a break from those little treasures!
Can anyone tell me how long the transfer is from airport to Kos Town - the last time seems like a complete blur and I really can't remember lol (thats why that was my first and last night flight!)
toastedmallow the greek season finishes the last week of october i cant think of any direct flights over winter and virtualy everything seems to close down

dont bother with the coach from Kos airport. Last time I went we just jumped in a a taxi (there were loads at 3am) and it took us approx 15 mintutes and cost 20 euros. We spoke to people on our flight the next day by the pool and it had take them an hour and a half as they were the last drop off!
Thanks for that Wizard and Greenshoes - it looks like it will be a taxi then, we are landing at 20:20 local time and I was hoping we would be at the hotel by about 10pm (barring any delays at Manchester!).
That's why I thought Kos Town would be the best choice as there'd be more places open/life.
Do you think this would be a good choice for an autumn break? I've posted on the Crete board too as I've noticed that the weather is still very good at the end of Oct, to get some feedback.
I've booked Spain for the summer and am suffering a bit of from a lack of Greece this year and thought an autumn trip to Kos or Crete might solve the problem.
Any advice from all you Kos experts would be most welcome!
although in the dodeconeese kos is quite high up, resident Friends tell me it can get quite chilly in the evenings although the days remain warm, we went to Crete [the furthest south of the Greek islands] for the penultimate week of the season last year on the whole the days were warm the nights a little chilly [ pulley not jacket ] but we had 2 days when it rained quite heavily,if you want the Greek feel and better weather you might consider Cyprus

Stayed at the oceanis Hotel, just outside Kos town, hire a car through economy car rentals before we left, and every thing was great.
Hotel was first rate, and the car was very cheap to hire for the three days we used it to explore the island, then used the buses to go back to the beaches that we loved.
go, relax and have fun. don't worry work and all that stress will be there when you get back...... it was for me..............aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrhhhhh
but at least we have our all over tans to remind us of good times
yes we were in Kos last week the temp were well above normal.. still quote warm in the evening too
you should have said, we could have met up. it would have been wizard.
or did we see you on the beach, naked apart from a big pointy thing.........hat.
we didnt go far from the hotel as it was a chill out week..we did walk into town a few mornings and sat in one of the harbour front bars for a mythos or two [our hotel had some continental rubbish] you may have see me easy to recognise 5ft 9 mutton chop whiskers sporting a beige trilby style hat.. with the witch in tow 4ft 11 and a fag paper looking bored
We are going to Kefalos for the first time 8th September flying from Glasgow. What about you
We went across to Bodrum on Market Day using the Maria Star at a cost of 20 Euros plus 4 Euros for Port Taxes.

We were warned by our Rep in Resort that the Greek Authorities are clamping down on peoples cases being over weight and are charging 9 Euros for every kilo over. The only advise we can give is to put anything heavy, in your hand luggage as they didn't seem to weigh this. Remember though, any fluids in your hand luggage will be confiscated on Check In.

hi julie, the umbrellas in kefalos are about 5 euros for 2 beds and 1 umbrella on paradise beach they are more expensive, you are quite safe to sunbathe just take it easy as you don't want to burn!!! at the moment its not too hot but still becareful, kefalos is pretty cheap if you go out and about to kos town you will find it expensive, hermes hotel has a really big pool for the kids but the beaches are good to we have water sports and pedaloes as well they are safe for swimming ,down near the harbour we have a lovely beach which is all sandy and very good for snorkling as you can hand feed the fish,as to trips you can go to turkey for the day or over to nissyros where their is a live volcano the kids can go down and walk on the crater I don't advise you do it being pregnant though, the sea is still warming up but once you are in its ok, have a good holiday I hope you enjoy yourselves if theirs any more questions let me know.
