The McDonalds in Mumbai doesn't sell beef, only chicken or fish,

i agree with you big neil thats why we go to goa and not benidorm etc.moving forward doesn't always mean for the better. i would love goa to stay the same but i suppose they want to be more like europe etc and its the youngsters who want it. we're going south next lets hope subway, dominos and mcdonalds dont go there!
It may be a blessing in disguise however by gathering the new tourists who dont fancy eating foreign food in the one area leaving the rest of us to enjoy Goas wonderfull food without having to listen to them demanding chips. sizzlers, etc. Alan
As always Gramps you talk a lot of sense. Well said that Man
On the other hand could a big global brand such as Mcdonalds suprise us and show the rest of Goa a responsible way to deal with its waste ? if not I fear more and more litter scattered along the streets of Goa, this could be a great opportunity for them to prove us wrong.
Fast food for Goans exists already really in the form of the Samosa/Bahji stalls etc...
Yes they do surfstak, I was talking on a much grander global scale, but could the traditional samosa stalls become a thing of the past once eating habits change in favour of the big multi national companies ? I can imagine father and son on a day out together "Lets get a couple of samosas on the way home " to which the little boy replies "No Dad lets get some Mcdonalds instead" , a very simplistic scenario I know but I bet almost every kid in Goa would snub tradition over some fancy new western style fast food... just a thought
And God help them they'll be fighting obesity next!
Very true what you have stated, McDonalds is definately aimed at the growing numbers of middle class Indian tourists visiting Goa, who love anything western. Just hope they don't throw the rubbish out of the window like they do on the trains.
As to Calangute, it is the most popular destination in Goa so the majority of people must like the IrishPubs etc as Big Neil mentioned, so in my opinion a MacDonalds can't do anymore harm.
But I will keep well away, there are still plenty of quiet places for those who want them
It was only a matter of time before McDonalds moved into Goa. They are an expanding global company with restaurants in over half the countries in the world. I'm no great fan personally but one of my daughters is made up. Goa already sells burgers etc and there is in fact already a fast food joint in Candolim selling chicken nuggets, chicken and beefburgers. If you don't like them don't buy them. I won't be.

best way to look at it Alan- its so much less stressful

To add to the thread- is it possible that this will be popular with the expats or long stayers? And was the deciding factor more based on what Indian holidaymakers want rather than what the Brits might want?
Big Neil
NOOOOooooo!!!!!! Next year will be my first visit to Goa and the main reason is that none of the above apply!
Let's have a KFC or even worse TacoBell and put them all in Calangute so that tourists can have the ultimate in tack. Along with Irish Pubs, Big Screen, Full English Breakfast. There is only one nation that wants this..... guess who... the British!

Although the Hambuger is very popular in the UK, it is not British. It originated in Hamburg Germany, and was taken to America by immigrants, where it evolved into the Hambuger we know today. Hamburgers are now eaten Worldwide by all sorts of people.
Altogether now! .......Macdonalds, Macdonalds, Kentucky fried chicken and a Pizza Hut.
I just wonder if it does finally arrive how long it will last? McDs aren't doing so well nowadays remember.
Given the main season is not the whole 12 months, can it make enough money during the season the sustain it through the rest of the year?
Dont think it will happen, as a franchise costs too much money. Who going to pay their prices when you can eat at shacks and other places for 1/4 of price.
As far as the health issue goes how healthy are deep fried samosas, sweets and curries swimming in oil. Diabetes due to obesity has been a problem in India for many years - "India and China are already home to more diabetics than any other country" so not all Indians live on fish curry/rice and lentils.
at the moment this is staying open but this thread is going downhill fast. Debate MacDonalds all you like but lets get away from this stereotyping please.
