Hi All,

Apologies if this has already been discussed but I couldn't see it at a glance.

We're looking to book a cruise on the Celebration having enjoyed our Destiny cruise last year so much. Have any of you been on both ships, and could you tell me if the cabins on the Celebration are any bigger than the ones on the Destiny? Not that it makes much difference as the Destiny ones were fine, but as there are going to be 4 of us in one cabin a few feet could make all the difference!

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi there - just got back on Friday and as far as I know there is now no smoking in the cabins. You are allowed to smoke on one side of the ship, but cannot remember which.

Hi
We went worrying a little after some of the reviews we had read. We had never cruised before and only booked it the week before as it was the cheapest deal we could get over the easter school holidays. We were prepared for the cabins to be small, as a friend had cruised on the thomson spirit last year, so we were not disappointed. There were only the two of us and had plenty of room and wardrobe space. Unsure whether four people would have all fitted in, but must do as there were two extra beds against the wall. It was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the ship. We were on deck 3 in an inside cabin (no windows) but there was no noise and we were more than happy with it. The maid worked her socks off keeping it clean. The exceptional thing on the ship was the service. All the staff could not do enough for you and the waiters were great entertainment at night. Food was available 24 hours a day and this was very good with lots of choices. We are very fussy when it comes to holidays and usually stay in 4 and 5 star hotels, but I would recommend this cruise ship for anyone wanting to try cruising as it is excellent value for money. If there are any questions I can help you with please just ask. I am sure you will have a great time as we did.

thanks thats eased my mind a bit as we have booked a deck 3 inside also.THIS WILL ALSO BE OUR FIRST CRUISE .Couple of quick queries, well all I can thinkof for now, does the ship have a money exchange or a laundry. Maybe Ishould ask your wife the last question cause if your anything like my hubby he has a laundry service 24/7 me!
Also did you take the drinks package and what was included?

Hi eh1. I am the wife (wilson was my mothers maiden name) don't ask why I chose that name. Not the first time I have been mistaken for a male. Think its time I used my own name.(Trisha) The reception desk did have a limited amount of money exchange, but we just used the ATMs when we got off at different ports. I believe that you could have your laundry done for you at a price, but I just dragged mine home with me. We decided not to go for the Drinks package as we felt £300 pounds for the week was quite a lot when you may be off the ship quite a lot during the day. You also get water, tea and coffee free 24 hours at the lido cafe.
We had a bottle of wine at the evening meal, a couple of cocktails and a few glasses of wine at the disco mostly every night and our weekly bill only came to £136. Just depends how much you like to drink as to whether the package is worthwhile. I had heard that a lot of the drinks were not included and that you had to pay a supplement for certain ones. The drinks are not too expensive on board.

Hi again
Our cabin was 3159 which was just about in the middle and even on the roughest night (madeira to morroco force 7 gale) I slept right through. You do hear a slight droning of the ship. I am a light sleeper and was worried I would be awake all night but because of the darkness of the room sometimes it was 9.30 a.m. before I awoke (maybe it was the wine) or maybe it was the exercise we had in trying to find the cabin. We got lost so many times and it was quite fun to meet the same people looking for their cabin every day. I did see some people moving cabins because of the noise. Maybe we were just lucky. Are you inside or outside cabin? Trisha

I've just rung Portland to enquire about the Destiny for next summer 09..the Med cruises. The price was cheaper than the same one in the Thomson brochure but they said that the free all inclusive drinks package was only available for this week of the launch..i.e until Thursday. What do you think? A ploy to get you to book early or for real? After this week it's £149 each.
The Thomson brochure gives the free drinks package if you book before July 08 .

Mmm...answers on a postcard please :think

Hi Hbrac,
The problem with all of these offers is that they put them on and take them off at will. Depending a lot on how well the sales are going. Last time we went on the Destiny, we got the free AI offer booking with Thomson, but it wasn't on with Portland, then our friends booked a few weeks later to come with us and got the offer with Portland :(
I do find generally the early booking deals do tend to be a lot better than the last minute deals, but ultimately it does come down to "is the price right for you?".
I have noticed though that the flights released this year are more expensive than the first release flights last year by about £125 per person to Cancun, Mexico. My personal opinion is that this is probably a lot to do with the high fuel increases over the last 18 months. But in the present economic climate, It is being suggested that holidays will be severely hit, so would also expect that the prices for last minute holidays will perhaps be more competitive.
I don't know, its a guessing game, the advantage of booking earlier is you get exactly what you want. We booked super early last year, as soon as the flights were released, and got a great deal that saved us £1400 on a family of four, but have decided to hang on for a late deal for next summers holiday as we will only be looking for something cheap and cheerful and are not that bothered where we end up. :que

OK. Now booked for 2 members of my family to go on a weeks cruise with a free cabin upgrade to Deck 6 inside:tup Got a good deal as far as I can see. Anybody been on Deck 6 ? There aren't many cabins there as far as I can see on the deck plan.

Hi hbrac,

I have always booked deck 6 on Destiny because I prefer it up there. It's never noisy, and also easy to get to lounges/pool deck etc,.
