Hi Rokerender, I did do my research before I booked and he was recommended!
Tomitma, yes you hit the nail on the head, I would never chance it again.
I know this isnt major surgery, but i do wonder why many people just to save a few pounds have treatment abroad, where things like this are not monitored by any medical body, like we have here in the UK.
Your health should come first
I'm sure a lot of folks have been pleased with work done but its worth thinking about what you do if things go wrong.
Both my wife and I have had treatment, I had two bridges and no problems. Several of my freinds have had extensive implant work and not a problem. Maybe we hit lucky but our dentist has been tried and tested over many years.
At least if you get it done in the UK you will be protected.
I seem to be missing something, why on earth are people getting work carried out on themselves by unregulated businesses?
Or are the dentists regulated in Goa?
A close friend used one of the wll known ones a couple of years ago, she had some crowns done and basically he filed down some of her other teeth to give her a bite. It all went wrong, her U.K. dentist was horrified with her bite being altered, and she finished up having extensive treatment at Leeds Dental Hospital to put things right. There are some super dentists in Goa, but the most popular ones at times pass you on to assistants, and then things can go wrong. I feel it's a bit high risk, if you get the good or the not so good dentists, and apart from fillings and whatnot I'd be reluctant to risk anything major like implants Alan
I had a few problems after bridge preparation , and I just phoned the dentist on his mobile at home, and he gave me instructions and said pop round if you have any more problems -- just like England/Scotland /Wales..
I'm saying no more,I'll be shouting so hard to beat the black and white team tomorrow , my bridges will likely fall out
Another thing that some tourists are having done is having their eyes lasered. I remember the day after we arrived in December, our F.C. representative had a really sore and runny left eye. Apparently, she had had it done the day before. Her eye was so sore and runny she couldn't see out of it, but that didn't stop her from driving.
I certainly wouldn't take the chance of having my eyes done out there just in case there are problems.
I had an awfull experience in November pre-booked over the net. If you read my trip report I named the dentist. Name and shame them. I thought I was getting a recommended dentist but alas I got his side kick, what a nightmare. Saying that my OH used a different dentist and got a brill job.
Rokerender, you have no chance ,, come on the toon
Chilly
I'm glad she turns down work. Any dentist willing to do implant work for example in the course of a normal holiday should not be touched with a barge pole.

the name in your report has been edited out as there could be libel issues for HT but of course, anyone interested in dental work can of course use the pm system to contact you and Ann for your experience.

I have also had a bad experience with a Dentist in Calangute who came highly recommended. I wanted minimal work done, fillings replaced in white on 5 teeth, he drilled out 3 then stopped (decided he wanted a ciggie) and said as the fillings were too deep they would need capping and asked for £700, for the very best caps of, course. The guy who comes to collect the casts to make the caps had actually arrived to take them away and I could see by the body language they were waiting for me to decide whether I was going to have the work done. I refused saying that I hadn't budgeted for this. The two filling that were drilled out were then replaced by white, there were no bands put around the teeth, so fillings were all mishaped, had to go back and ask him to grind down as I did not have a 'bite' on the right side of my mouth, and the conversation I had with him when I went back was as if he wanted more money for doing this! what a cheek. Oh and I almost forgot - while I was there I asked him to replace a very small filling on my front tooth (so now my 2 front teeth are fused together with no gap) From what I can recall I was charged about £50 for this wonderful experience. Hence to say the fillings didn't last. So be warned, choose very carefully when having any dental work done, even if they do come recommended. Luckily I have now found a local NHS Dentist off of their website. Had to have the 3 teeth replaced with caps as the fillings and more broken away - all for £197. Cheaper than Goa!
Well off to my UK dentist tomorrow, as he going to try and put right what was done wrong
The veneers that were used are not good quality and have been made wrong to fit my original teeth..
He had to scrape and clean to get the residue cement that was still there off, but couldn't manage it on this visit.
He tried to get some gaps in the bottom ones, to avoid gum disease and managed too do that a bit.
I can get a very narrow floss in-between the bottom ones near the gums now, but barely.
One of my front tooth crowns which were replaced, (unecessarily), and told they were veneers btw is slightly chipped as well.
His advice was to go back next year and complain that the treatment is inferior and ask if they can correct it....( don't have much faith there )!
I also need to continue treatment over here to see if he can get some spaces between the bottom teeth. He said that the oval shaped ultra violet equipment that they used during the treatment was the reason my bottom teeth are fused together.
Over here they use a single beam to prevent that.
Bottom line is, he will try to correct what has been done, other than that I will need to have all the veneers taken off and new ones done at UK prices.
Sorry I had it done now, but I had such good reports from others about their treatments; guess I was unlucky? But a lesson learnt, and hope it will help others before taking the plunge
Ann
I know you would be very reluctant to return but I think it would be worth contacting the one you thought was going to do the treatment. Hopefully he would take charge. Even if you really can't go back, contacting him re the dentist he has employed may stop others from going through what you have. Its been a real nightmare for you
Still by these stories here I wouldn't bother! When it comes to health I don't think CHEAP comes into it.
Your right Big Neil...
It is not always bad news using dentists in Goa. My N.H.S. dentist in England retired so I no longer had a dentist, so for several years I used a lady dentist in Mapusa and had alot of crowns and bridge work done. When eventually I was able to register with a local dentist at home, he was very impressed with the work I had done in Goa. So far no problems.
