Hi all
Now back from my trip to Punta Cana and just thought I'd update you on my flight as I asked quite a few questions before I flew out!!
Anyway, booked through FC originally (flew with them last year and loved them). Was expecting an ex FCA plane this time as well but when we arrived at the airport it was a Thomson plane. We had a two hour delay - this was put down to cleaning the plane thoroughly because of 'swine flu' not sure if it had come from mexico? TOM 071 (Gatwick). The plane was there for hours being serviced.
I had my biggest fear confirmed when we checked in - we were sitting behind each other - not what I wanted for the start of my honeymoon! Anyway, when I asked if there was anything they could do, she said no, as we were the last to book in for Premier (was told originally it did not matter what time we booked in as seats were pre allocated) she seemed to say that she could have if everyone had not booked in!!
As with Premier, when they started boarding we were boarded first, realised as it was a thomson plane, the premier section is a lot smaller than the FC planes. Magazines, papers, blankets and pillows all provided, didn't notice any difference to leg room or seat room at all. Drinks upon arrival as stated. Must say, the trip was actually fine sitting behind each other, dont know what i worried about!
The one thing I did not like was the two sections were only seperated by a curtain, at one stage we had a smelly foot coming thru onto an empty seat next to me under the curtain, really not nice. Much preferred the FC set up.
Staff were wonderful through the whole flight, really attentive, never wanted for a drink for very long. This was both ways. Did have to laugh on the way back though because before they even started serving food, the couple next to us asked for two of everything off the snack menu, including snack boxes, crisps, pepperami, pretzels, crinkles and soft drinks. I thought they were having that instead of their meal, but no, when that came out they tucked into that too!
Food was good, although I did not get any choice off the menu on the way out, but what I did get was edible. Film choice on way out was ok, much preferred the films on the way back. We also got to sit together on the way back in Row 5 (the last row) and that was great
Couple of things I noticed that were missing from the premier service that we had last year... priority luggage came off first last year. and this time on both ways, we were not allowed off the plane first, in fact we were stuck getting out as they offloaded everyone else first this time.
Would I upgrade again.... yes, although the airport at PC seems so much more oranised this year, unlike the cattle market last year! I really preferred the bigger seats and TV screens in premier as I had the chance to swap seats for a while with a friend in star class and I really would not have liked to have sat there for 9 an half hours. overall a great flight but must say, I did prefer the ex FCA setup as opposed to Thomsons, but thought the staff were brilliant (not sure about the uniforms though!!)
Hi, Can anyone please tell me what type of plane will be used for flight TOM 2334 Manchester to Larnaca 08th July 2009. Also is the seating 2-3-2?
MAN-LCA-MAN (TOM2334/5) are operated by a Boeing 757-200. These are configured 3-3. You'll find further aircraft information on our What Aircraft? thread.

Does the B737 series (-800 or -300) actually have the range to fly from the Uk to Orlando?
Can't say I'm too happy with the thought of an 8 hr flight on such a small plane and then not to have IFE.
It is a general disclaimer they put in all of their brochures regardless of destination.
The 737-300's can barely make it to Paphos let alone anywhere else!
Thanks Darren, can you please let me know what the seat configeration is for the Boeing 757-200 M/C - LCA.Getting very excited now!.....
As BY-TOM-AMM-FCA mentions, you won't be travelling on any of the smaller aircraft. They only use Boeing 767-300/ER's on long haul sectors. The Boeing 737-300 doesn't have the range to go direct, it would have to route a long way round as would the 737-800's (via Iceland and Canada). There are strict rules (ETOPS) on where aircraft can fly and how far they can go from a suitable airport which pretty much makes it unfeasible for smaller aircraft to fly that far, although Flyglobespan sometmes use their 737-800's to Canada and the USA, via Iceland. SFB will be 763

Dazbo5,
Hi Darren, Thanks for such a quick response, just a bit confused though, you said the TOM2334 was a 757-200 but told Scotsclass its a A320-200, which one is it....
Well spotted, my mistake There are two flights from MAN-LCA on a wednesday and they are next to each other on the schedule. TOM2334/5 departing MAN at 1355 is a 757-200 and TOM2342/3 departing at 1810 is an A320-200. I must have crossed lines somehow (and still half asleep!).
Darren
Many Thanks Darren.
Can anyone tell me what aircraft will be on route from Manchester to Larnaca on 13th September (think flight code TOM2700) and returning 23rd September (flight code TOM2335?) There are 3 of us flying together, one is a nervous flyer and the other doesn't fancy sitting alone if the seating is a 2-4-2 layout.
MAN-LCA-MAN (TOM2700/TOM2335) are operated by an Airbus A321-200 / Boeing 757-200 respectively. Both types are configured 3-3. You'll find further aircraft information on our What Aircraft? thread.

Thanks Darren, I didn't expect a reply so quickly!
So just to recap my question, TOM 142/143 MAN-MOMBASSA and return in August are 767 ER's but depending on if it is an ex FCA or Thomsons plane the internal layout is different. They both have 33" economy seat pitch and FCA has 36" PE whereas Thomson has 37" PE.
MAN-MBA-MAN (TOM142/3) are operated by former First Choice Boeing 767-300/ER's, not a former Thomsonfly unless there's a technical problem and a change of aircraft is required. All the aircraft informtion is on our What Aircraft? thread. Premium seats are pretty much the same width as economy, but are air-filled.

Outbound - we checked in day before at LGW, but were told that we would have to come back in the morning and que up again (although could use premium desks) to get a tag for our pushchair. The following morning we were told that this was wrong and that we should have been given a tag for the pushchair the night before - anyway wasted 30 minutes in the morning quing up again and it wasn't apparently easy for the check in desk lady to issue an extra tag!
Return flight - 2 hour delay - apparently due to the outbound flight being delayed due to faulty toilets!! (G-OBYD).
We heard when walking to baggage reclaim that a significant number of people in the back did not get a meal as they had run out!!!! (my theory is that they might have mixed up our larger capacity 767 with the Birmingham ex-FCA plane that was now parked side by side due to our delay?!?).
Have flown in StarClass (and premier) many times before - I have to say that the Thomson seats are significantly narrower and I would certainly choose a 2-3-2 not 2-4-2 if ever given a choice!
Flying with a 3 month baby was actually very easy - although there were no formal baby-changing facilities on board.
IFE seemed to work much better compared to the FCA 767s - but what a terrible selection of movies this month (my personnal opinion of course!!). The CD collection feature was fantastic.
Meals - the accompliments on the return flight were not very nice. Beef & Ale and chicken curry both quite nice.
Agree with above post - the new uniforms are strange - I think they look cheap and rather casual.
EDIT - forgot to mention our little delay on the outbound! - when boarding noticed quite a few customs officials at the gate - thought this was strange for a departure. Few minutes later, all boarded - the pilot comes on the PA to say that 2 passengers have been offloaded and detained by police and they're just looking for their bags! - wonder what they'd done to be arrested when leaving the country!?
Thanks Gower that looks better. IMHO
