Yes , we fly out this wed. Looks good till sunday then may be car time.
I'm back now and can't really complain about the weather. Out of 10 days we had 5 hot sunny ones, a couple of rainy days and the rest were overcast. Not bad for literally the last knockings of the tourist season. What was surprising was the amount of people complaining about the weather at the airport on the way back, they clearly don't check forecasts or historical info before booking We saw the parade in Kos Town that celebrates liberation from the Nazi's in WW2, I found it very moving with the little children all dressed up and marching, and seeing just 3 veterans with their medals.
Drove through Kos on the way back to the airport and saw the parade getting set up.
You can drive round the Island in about 3 hours.
It made a change but there isn't much to see compared with the larger islands.
We had a good time but probably won't got back as we feel that we have 'done' all the sights. Also we were really shocked at the prices for eating out so the all-inc really paid off this time.
Last year on Crete we had perfect weather but the year before we drove to the Hotel in storms.
I blame half term for being at the end of October.
Look on you tube for the Kipriotis Village and see them dancing round the pool in the summer.
Which resorts on the island have the best beaches please?
So, nobody knows of any nice beaches on Kos then? There obviously cant be any so perhaps I should be looking somewhere else!!
There doesn't seem to be a great deal of activity on here at the moment - maybe no-one can afford Greece any more
I'm not an expert of Kos beaches but will help a little if I can. I have been to Kos once for a week, staying at Kefalos which is a decent resort with a nice beach - there were even better beaches along the coast a short drive or bus ride away. We're not particularly beach dwellers but from what we saw, there were plenty of good sandy beaches on the island. You didn't say if you were looking for a lively or more traditional resort. We tend to go for quieter places and (especially out of the main season) Kefalos suited us. Plenty of places to eat and drink but not rowdy. We also liked the look af Mastahari - lovely beach but much smaller than Kefalos. Livlier resorts are available, if you like that sort of place too.
We went to Kos late September early October and had great weather. I've been to various parts of Greece many times now, including a couple of times in early May. Chances are you will have good, sunny and warm weather but that early in the season, there is always a chance of cooler days or the odd rain shower. There are plenty of ruins to visit, if you like that sort of thing, Kos Town is well worth a visit and you can take boat trips to the volcanic island of Nisyros, to Kalymnos or even visit Turkey for the day. Car hire was relatively cheap and the island easy to get round.
Hope this helps, Maria
I take it you have looked on the justkos site for info. Like Maria we stayed in Kefalos and hired transport and found some great sandy places but this was many moons ago so not able to give you any up to date advice. I remember the bus service ran all the way from Kos town to Kefalos as it use to looked packed in the morning with people going to the Kefalos area for the beaches. We took the trip to Nisyros independently with a boat which ran from Kefalos and caught a coach on the island for the trip to the volcano.
Thanks for the response guys! Do you think, given all the financial problems they are having with the euro, that Greek Island resorts will be more expensive this coming season? Or will they try and temp holidaymakers to go to back to Greece by offering cheaper deals?
we have been going to Kos since 1997 and I think that Tingaki has the best beach by far.As to peple going to Greece I think the euros has alot to do wit it, last year we found it really expensive compared to the year before and still the shops and bars put up the prices. We have been to a 5* all inclusive in mexico not much more than a week self catering in greece. We for one will not be going back this year and have just booked another holiday in mexico.
The only additional expense I can foresee and only if it's reasonable, is a day trip to Bodrum
Has anyone stayed at the Ilios and Irini Apartments in mastihari? I am thinking of booking there but I can't find any recent reviews.
I think you will really enjoy your time there as it would be any other greek islands. Because I belive most of them give you the chance to enjoy both organized and untouched beaches with clean water and night life that you would like to have.
Have fun!
1 year today will be our 10th wedding anniversary & we are booked to go to Kos for 2 weeks & our anniversary falls slap bang in the middle of the holiday, We have often talked about renewing our vows & i would love to try & arrange to do it while in Kos next year on our anniversary (ideally as a surprise for the wife) but i don't have the 1st clue about how to go about it & what paperwork/fees would be required & was hoping some of you more knowledgeable people would be able to help out.
We will be staying in Kos town (Ampavris apts) & neither of us drive so ideally it would have to be somewhere local to kos town. It will just be us 2 & the kids (10 & 6) so it doesn't need to be anything too big & fancy!
Hi Oak what a lovely thought

Try Googling "Renewing wedding vows in kos" I've just tried it and it brought up a few pages.
Just had a quick look on google & i'm still none the wiser! It just seems to be bringing up details of packages with flights & accomodation etc and as we already have our holiday booked & paid for thats not really an option, the only one i can find that is just a renewal package is priced at 2500 Euro's!! Thats about the same as we were planning to take for spends!
I've just emailed one of the tourist office's in Kos to see if they can help, i'll keep you posted if i hear anything back. Thanks for your help.
We got married in kos in 2008 and were told at the time that you couldn't renew you vows in kos. This may have changed this year but speaking to the thomas cook wedding coodinator lat year it was still the same.
