Take a look at the Total website and under the sections marked 'In The kitchen or Kalimera' you will find some recipes, you can also get free Greek recipes and a newsletter (Kalimera) sent to you via the post or email.
I receive them via the post and they come in a handy size, are wipe clean plastic coated and they are also pre-punched if you want to fit them in to a binder.

If you are a Greekophile it's well worth sending them your details and receiving the recipes and newsletter every few months.

The Taverna in the square in Stoupa does Zuchini balls (a bit like onion bhajis but with courgette), they are superb with a plate of tatziki and some fresh bread from the bakery next door, and all washed down with half a litre of the house white (2 euros).

Oh god, I cant believe I've got to wait till August.

Hi Eric. What's the name of the restaurant in Stoupa? Is it on the front? We were in Stoupa 2 years ago and loved it but went to Parga last year and loved Parga even more so we are returning this year. Gail

I miss Gyros the most, and chicken Souvlaki. Damn, I've been to Greece a good few times now and I've never tried this Tzatziki you all keep mentioning! Just 5 weeks and 3 days to go, to see if it's as good as you all day it is

Being a bit of a food'y I made note of things while in Cyprus and Corfu and made them when I returned..

one of my favourites was the Stamna we had in Corfu (beef and cinnamon with cheese on top, baked in the oven)..
but also loved kleftiko (the dish of thieves) and stiffado both of which I recreated at home..

the only thing I'm missing is tahini paste (seasame seeds) which If I can't find any I will have to make some.. and Dolamades (Stuffed vine leaves) seems to be a lack of vines in the uk...

I think the thought of Greek food made me go a bit crazy for a while, It wasnt Stoupa at all, it was Afissos in the Pelion.

oh and I forgot to say, ASDA stock the exact same Feta that was in all the supermarkets in Cyprus and Corfu..

Yum....went out to a very excellent Greek restaurant in Derby last Sat night....they have recently moved and are now opposite Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, it's called Stelianas and Saphos....it's not cheap but it's great food!!! I had never tried the Saganiki until Saturday and all I can say is wow!!! and someone's mentioned Shrimp saganiki on this thread...that must be a double wow! Anyway, all the rest of the food was delicious....ASKCY, I have bought that feta cheese in Asda, it is the real thing. ....I feel a Greek salad coming on for the weekend along with our nice new BBQ! However, it does taste different in Greece..roll on Kos in October.....Gyros....the best I have tasted so far was in Fira Town in Santorini last year, whatever was in it, it was awesome.....it was no fluke as we has another one when we came back to Fira another day!
Also had Lamb kebab for my main course, will try in Greece..meat was very tender and the best Baklava I have tasted was last Saturday...I have had baklava before where it has been so sweet, it's turned my teeth....this one was perfect....but I love the cream pies and the Bird's nest cake thingy.....I'm hungry now......and very jealous of my sister in law who is currently in Kefalonia eating and cocktailing!!!!

I have just been informed that a stall has opened at Watford market and sells all types of Greek cuisine mmm can't wait

Think we will have a greek weekend this bank holiday - all this talk of gyros, feta cheese etc is making me drool!! Will go to asda for some feta and a few kebabs coming up i think. Might get some lamb to try gyros on the barbie. We STILL have one bottle of mythos left from the ones we bought back from skiathos last year - so may well break that one open - sit back close my eyes believe I'm sitting round the harbour - oh and forgot to add - some baklava for a sticky sweet....

Hey tinka 14 I know Stelliana and Saphos very well ! You're right it's not cheap but at least you get what you pay for - great food! I've paid alot more in some Derby restaurants where it seems you're just paying for the decor!
Seems Andreas, Shirley and co. are really making a go of it in the new premises - they deserve it !

Last weekend M&S had the range that includes the Greek mezes at 4 for the price of 3, we got the mixed meze pack (olives, dips, stuffed vine leaves, dolmades, etc) and a few other bits and pieces, including a tasty chargrilled pepper and feta salad. Not as good as in Greece but we can dream

Give me Greek salad with plenty of feta and a few glasses of ouzo and I'm happy.

we often have holiday themed nights (days as well).. last week ASDA had "Super Bock" lager which we had in Portugal so we had piri piri chicken and "mountain soup" to go with it...
