There we are Kerry!
Glad you had a nice holiday
Very hot!
Was the pool a nice temp? And the sea?
Can't wait to get in that water and see all the beautiful fish!
Philippa
If you book thru eclipse or direct holidays for 450pp for 2 weeks then I think its well worth it.But If you have booked thru 1st choice at 900 a head for a family of four, thinking your getting a good standard A/I your very much misstaken.
When you have spent that kind of money a trip into naama bay is more of a treat rather than an every day excercise.
Just to add, the queue for complaints forms was huge,as the holiday went on.Hopefully it will get sorted out by the time most of you go but its back to the carribean for me next year............
I paid a bargain price, but I don't think that would excuse poor quality.
Sorry your holiday wasn't as you'd hoped, good luck for your next one
If your room is closer to beach than to the pool area get a bed on the beach cos its cooler there and you don't have to get up as early for a bed on beach (7.30 - 8a.m.) as you do for round the pool.(6.30 a.m.)
Reps not really bothered about you if you don't go on trips. Every time the reps are in the hotel there is a queue of people complaining about various things, mainly tummy upsets and the lack of food and snacks. By the way i didn;t see much snacks during the day. may be i looked in wrong place.
Weather. very very hot so be warned.
Check out time is 12 noon and thats when your all inclusive finishes so be aware that if you want to eat or drink after that time you may have to pay.
The way round is go for lunch around 12 and order a few extra bottles of water or get stocked up on them a few days before and keep in your fridge. If there are fruit and rolls then take some to last you the afternoon.
Lastly ladies take some toilet roll to tha airport cos you will be charged for it.
Airport a bit of an eye opener but you can get food and drink there. Airport lets the area down cos it's not very clean unlike the resorts that are spotless.
Not too worried about the AI option though, the main reason for this was so we could make sure we had plenty to drink. most days we will be out diving or snorkelling so not too worried about the pool situation.
i can see a few trips into naama though in the evenings.
can anyone confirm what is on the room service menu? we have a rather fussy 11 year old.
told the brother in law to start brushing up on the campfire sketches. looks like they may be needed.
Just got back from the Conrad, Room service is lush,
pizza's burgers, the best chicken sandwiches salads loads of stuff an 11 yr old or mum and Dad would like and very cheap aprox 3.50 each meal........
I had a great time, most of my time was spent on Beach and snorkelling, just get to know the bar staff and explain how you like your drinks give them and tip and they will look after you, no problem.........
Wish I was still there
I have read many things about tipping, some books say not to but most of the reviews say it is ok. Is it better to tip in local currency or sterling and how much?
be careful at the airport, trollies cost, thats ok but watch the con men loading up the coaches, rhey will try and scank you.
a constant drip of tips is essential for good service, use egyptian pounds, with an exchange rate of 10 to 1 your money goes much further, also they dont even look at what you have given them, its the principle more than the amount.
Good Luck
cheers
I have been reading all your posts for the last couple of weeks now and have found them very interesting, i +hubby and 12yr old son go on 14 july and can't wait ,we have had this booked since May last year, so now the time is almost here we are so looking forward to it, my one concern is this upset tummy lark, sounds as if most peole are getting it, i will take immodiom but people are saying it doesn't work, if this is so will the chemists be open in the evenings in namma bay if so i will go asap to get something just to be on the safe side, also can we buy any beach shoes at the hotel as the sand will be so hot and i would be better for my son to go in the water with something on his feet, i have got 30 factor sun cream for him and 20 for us ,do you think this will be enough, ,i'm sure i have loads more to ask but for now this is all i can remember.
hope you don't mind me jioning in the forum and thanks for any help with this matter,
Have a nice one
shoes can also be bought from these shops cost about 5 english,50 egyptian pounds.be careful on the beach ther is a wonderful cool breeze,if your fair use a higher factor to start with,a lot of people use sun block on the kids, make sure they wear a hat when possible.
Thanks for your reports.. As Pippa said its your honest opinion that makes sites like this effective ...
Kelney - how did you get on with the 'hire' of snorkel equipment ? do you hire the week or by the day
Regards
Gordon
Just returned from Conrad last Friday - 1st day back at work today & here is my report.
Please do not worry about a thing unless you want disco's & loud bars - there aren't any - well not near the Conrad anyway.
Hotel
Cannot fault the hotel in anyway. Our room was large with bathroom, free safety deposit box, mini bar in fridge which you could use for your own drinks etc. TV with some Sky movies, Discovery channel etc. Our room was cleaned every day with fresh sheets 7 days a week, fresh towel twice a day & even changed our shower curtain! They clean in the morning & come again about 6.30pm to turn down your bed & freshen up waste bins, towels etc. We had a kettle to make hot drinks & you can take tea & coffee sachets from breakfast or lunch. There is a supermarket at the next door hotel that sells long life milk which we found fine with coffee & tea.
Food
Omlettes made to order, toast, rolls jams & marmelade. Cereals, hundreds of varietys of small pastries & croissants. Fresh pancakes with honey & lemon (delicious). Boiled eggs, scrambled, fried, franfurters, grilled tomatoes. Fresh salads, cheeses & cold meats. That's just breakfast. We didn't eat lunch as it's sooo hot & we weren't hungry. But we started to take some fresh fruit from the evening dessert buffet & kept it in our fridge for lunch the next day. Walk down to the next hotel (Barons Court) & get an ice cream from the little supermarket there.
Staff
Can't fault the staff. They couldn't do enough for you. We had room service twice. Fab pizzas & chips delivered to our room at £3 english. each. Hotel is immaculately clean. I had an aromatherapy massage on the beach - how cool is that! If you needed anything for your room you ring room service & it appear immediately.
Entertainment.
Could be better !
Shopping
Hotel bus into Naama Bay is excellent. Shopping is scary if you don't like haggling. So we only spent £56 in 2 weeks!
Trips
Went shopping & dinner trip to Dahab. Very good.
Bedouin Experience. Got very close to a camel ! 30 min camel ride into dessert. Up the mountain to watch the sunset & then lounge on cushions around a camp fire with BBQ, mint tea, hooka pipes, music & dancing & watch the stars.
All Round
They are doing some building work at the front of the hotel. You could sometimes hear it on the beach but I can honestly say it didn't get on our nerves & it's not all day.
The beach & sea are fantastic. We saw some beautiful fish & rays. Wonderful coral all colours of the rainbow.
There are a lot of Italians & some Russians there plus the English. They have pool & beach towels & beach toys for kids.
We had a great time & have come back well chilled.
Mazzy x
thanx mazzy !!
we were starting to get a bit worried about reports of building work again and the dust clouds over the pool ?
glad you had a good holiday
4 weeks on thursday to go for us
cant wait!!
Please do not worry about a thing unless you want disco's & loud bars
Absolutely not! Not when I'm on holiday anyway!
Thanks for your report Mazzy, you obviously enjoyed your holiday
I've just thought of a question....
Do many of the hotel staff understand/speak English?
Normally when I'm on holiday I try to speak as much of the local language as possible, I believe it's very rude to assume locals will understand English, but other than please, thankyou, yes, no etc I really think I'll struggle to learn any Arabic
I'm worried in case I need to ask for something, I don't want to make a total fool of myself
Thanks for the review glad to get a good one after a disappionting one.
As long as the hotels nice the food and entertainment is not a problem as we can go into naama seems to be the dinners only as the breakfasts sound good so no worries.
3 weeks on wed till i go really looking forwrd to it .
Debs
Hi all. Yes l agree, the breakfasts are out of this world. And if you dont get tummy trouble the holiday is fantastic. If we had not tried in vain with Immodeum we would of enjoyed ourselves more .. We mentioned to reps that why did they not tell us at meeting that it did not work. They said that if they did that it would give the impression that there is a problem!!!!!!
All the staff speak excellent English, you'll have no problem & they are so helpful. There is even a Clinic with a doctor in the hotel if you have any kiddies worries.
Make sure you all take high factor sun cream as there is a very nice breeze on the beach which make sun bathing easy - but it can be deceptive as my peeling back goes to prove. There are mini plastic deck chairs that you take into the sea which you can sit on in the water to cool off.!
PS Ask me anything you need.
Mazzy
Thanks , i have taken on board info on the immodium so as soon as i arrive i think ill pop into the local chemist as get some of their stuff just in case . As already mentioned i did not pay much for my holiday infact we only paid £500 each , when we go and we do eat out alot AI or not so the dinner thing dosent phase us too much.
We like the AI package as you dont have the hassle of changing money during the day for food and drink and having your purse lying at the beach or pool when your both in there.
I think even from the negative reviews everyone seemed to like the hotel itself thats what bothers me if you go and its a hovel , it would have been nice to get better reviews so close to my going but not everyone has the same likes and dislikes so im happy enough that most of you actually liked the hotel and if worst comes to the worst and the food is really dire well eat out from what i read you can get a really cheap meal in Naama so if spending a few extra pennies makes it a better holiday then thats what well have to do .
Debs
Sorry I can't help you with the snorkel question because i brought my own, but I did see people who had hired the gear and they said it was ok.
