I love Bhindi bhaji (ladies fingers) and yes also love the samosa stall by the Highland but you do have to get there early, the food at Villo Villa is truly wonderful, Lourdes grinds all her own spices and everything is cooked fresh but you have to wait, no big deal in Goa and the garden restaurant is wonderful, lovely flowers colourful and just a few yards from the beach, anyone tried it? lavina the daughter is a delight, everyone loves her, a real must this place

Nice little mobile cart in front of Candolim market selling, potatoe bahjis, onion pakora, and as mentioned the hard boiled eggs encased in mash and deep fried (ask for a mixed bag to try each one, around 20rps)
Keep bumping into other carts selling omellete sandwiches - quality.
I must say, if there are newcomers reading this, please give these guys a go,you may think "they look dirty and not worth the health risk" but they are selling fresh produce every day,top snacks and no problems here.

We seem to be having a quiet day so how about those of you who are here telling us about the food you love in Goa? We needn't bother with the drink- I think I know the answer to that one!!!!!!!!

Chicken chillie fry is my fave although chicken xacuti and fish curry are very close seconds, if your out and about in Goa try and find a book of Goan cooking by Joyce Fernandes, there are some great recipes in there. The Goan food is often overlooked in the main resorts but if you get out into some villages the Goan people love their food and are only too willing to teach you a few tricks of the trade in the kitchen should you show an interest. I spent a good few hours in the Hilltop kitchen learning about spices and Indian cooking in 100 degrees + heat but what i learned was well worth it.
Also worth looking at in Goa is Tibetan food in particular chicken momo`s and thupka is also very nice, try everything once as it costs nothing and is well worth the experience mmmmmmm .... roll on March :D
P.S. Try here for some good recipes: http://goacom.com/cuisine.php?file=recipes but 1 word of warning do not use the amount of chillies they say as they are very different to the hot green chillies we have here, maybe use around 5 of our green ones with seeds if you like hot or adjust accordingly

Hi feelthevibe,

I have the book by Joyce Fernandez, it's very good. I can't wait to get out there for the culinary experiences will be an experience itself. I also want to have a few cooking lessons and learn how to marry spices together properly too.

Hubby says I'm mad I should want to be waited on hand and foot not sweating in a kitchen, but want to be able to cook some goan food when I come home

He won`t be complaining when he gets home :D only problem is everytime i do a curry now i have loads of people asking for some so i always have to do extra now, they even bring tiger prawns round for me to cook lol. Oh well enjoy the experience and they are more than willing to teach you what to do.

For me it is Feijao,
a pork, goan sausage and bean stew. According to the Horseshoe in Panjim it needs to be cooked for at least a day to get all the flavours.

Served as a main course with crusty bread after a starter grilled jumbo prawns in garlic what could be better?
