Hi Sacko

I know this has been asked many times about men wearing shorts and 3/4 pants in the restaurant at night and the answer was that they can but what do most people do? My husband was only going to pack shorts and 3/4pants for a night and no long trousers atall with it being so hot.

Also what is the temp of the pools like when you first get in especially the "baby pools" i know usually pools are cold but then you warm up as you are in them but people last year commented they were like getting in a bath is that right?

Thanks Vicky

So excited now, flying out on Monday so only 6 days to go. We are also rejects from Kos and Kefalonia ABCs, but after reading all the postings are really looking forward to going to the PP.
A bit worried about finding shade and the parasol situation, but never mind, I'm sure we'll manage.
See you there!

we've just come back, last night, from a week at the Pegasos Palace, and it really is a lovely hotel, but for us just a bit too big and impersonal. The pools are amazing, absolutely huge and never freezing cold, in the morning they are already quite bearable and by the evening yes it is like getting into a warm bath. We spent most of our time by the jacuzzi pool. There is no problem getting shade, by the main pool there is a large shaded area, and apart from this there are many parasols that can be moved about. The mattresses are still an issue, the hotel really does need to invest in enough for one per sunbed, the beds don't feel that uncomfortable without a mattress, until you go to move again at which point my back would go into spasms; we were there for a week and got mattresses for 3 full days, the other days we managed to get some towards the end of the afternoon when people started to go in.

We had no problems with the food, in fact we thoroughly enjoyed it. We ate in the restaurant most of the time, preferring the buffet to the snack food. I was very pleased with my kids as they were keen to try lots of new things and enjoyed most of it. It was a shame though to see so many children, and some adults, just eat big platefuls of chips and not even try some of the more turkish food available.

We had one twin room and one kids den room, both were fine, plenty of room, and we had a lovely big king sized bed in our part of the kids den room. The room maids kept the rooms very clean for us, although some days it was late afternoon before they got to us.

We all enjoyed the entertainment, the kids (including the 19 year old) loved Crowsfeet Island, which is the earlier show each night (this was normally my time to go back to the room and relax and read the paper for an hour), and most nights we also stayed to watch the main show at 10 o'clock. Between the shows there was normally 'Big Bucks Bingo' and some kind of quiz, we gave these a miss!

Anyone going to the Palace should make the effort to go into Sarigerme a couple of times, (it took about 20 minutes for us to walk, probably quicker without children in tow, or a taxi from the hotel was 7 lira), it's only small but so friendly and you do feel like you are in Turkey (the hotel itself could really be anywhere in the world, it's very self contained). One of the first places you come to when you arrive in the village is the office of Sarigerme Tours, I can't recommend this place highly enough, we did the Dalyan River Trip (mudbaths and turtle beach) with Mustafa, and it was the best day of the holiday for us. On Sundays there is a big market in Sarigerme, my husband and kids loved this and the girls spent a fair bit on jeans, jewellery etc, personally I didn't enjoy it, I'm far too english to haggle and I like to look round shops etc in peace rather than being constantly hassled by the store holders, but I guess their patter can be funny, they've certainly picked up a huge number of english catchphrases. In the end I went back down into the village and sat in the Dolphin with a cup of coffee and left the rest of the family to their haggling.

All in all I think anyone with children will have a great time at the Pegasos Palace, the facilities are great and they will have something to do all day long, (and something to eat all day long too), but if you want to feel like you are in Turkey, rather than just any random hot place, you will have to make the effort to leave the confines of the hotel a couple of times.

we didn't take any lira with us, I'm not sure how good a deal we were getting, to be honest we just bought what we wanted without thinking too much about it. I changed £20 into lira at reception, i think i got 54 lira. I also used a couple of cashpoints and obviously they gave me lira. We spent very little, £90 for all 7 of us to go on the trip with Mustafa, and about £60 on top of that on things like taxis, newspapers, a couple of nice towels from the market. The kids had saved their pocket money for a while and each spent about £40 on clothes and game boy games. The only money we actually spent in the hotel was for my daily newspapers, we had no need to buy any food or drink. Some people earlier had said they spent what seemed to me to be huge amounts of money, to be honest I don't know what they found to spend it on.

in most of the hotel shops the prices are in sterling, and it's invariably prices like '5 boxes of turkish delight for £10', '2 pairs of trainers for £20'. In the supermarket type shop, (papers, cigarettes, sweets etc) the prices are in lira. Either way if you want to buy with the other currency you just ask and they use a calculator to work it out. Also if you just want one of something they will give you a price if you ask. If you pay with sterling you will sometimes get change in sterling, sometimes in lira.

hi,
for anyone thinking of buying designer jeans/trousers from the shops in sarigarme, the shop keepers are lovely and will do anything to help you get what you want, last year my friend wanted to buy some jeans which were too long and they said if she could come back in 10 mins they would get them shortened for her and they did, a perfect job aswell and for free!, they did that in every shop she bought stuff from

i think the tropical was due to reopen around the 19th, but it actually opened last week for some of the people who were booked for kos abc. Even the staff were only told the day before and it meant that the entertainments staff were rushed off their feet having to do duplicate shows in each hotel. We only went to the tropical once, the mosquitos seemed much worse over there, but maybe because it was the 1st day and they hadn't sprayed as much.

Sacko, did you feel safe with all that money in the safe? I remember reading in a much earleir post about the hotel staff having access to the safes and someone said they had some jewelry disapear?

are all the trips bookable on site ? if they are are they priced in lira and sterling ? is the spa priced in lira and sterling also ?

Wez - Yes to all your questions above, you are better off booking the FC trips with lira though unless paying by cash., then sterling is fine.

We didn't feel uncomfortable at all with the money in the safe, but I wasn't aware of the earlier post you mention. The safes are a key pad with numbers which you enter your own combination to but I guess there must be an override number for them if problems are encountered.

I would echo hayley/john's comments about the shops in sarigerme, the shopkeepers were very friendly and helpful especially the guy in the surfing shop opposite the Dolphin restaurant. We were all given apple tea while we were shopping which was very nice and refreshing!

Think the exchange rate was about 2.6 at the hotel but not sure if they charged anything as well. I don't know what the rate is like generally for Turkey but we got ours for 2.9 just before we left home.

Most shops on site were priced in sterling but the small paper/sweets/general store was priced in Euros and some of the shops in Sarigerme also seemed to be priced in Euros.

We used our Lira in the general store and on site and also in the bars/restaurant in Sarigerme but used sterling for everything else.

I've briefly read everything about money - so would you recommend to take just sterling or may be some euros. It doesn't sound like you need to worry about lira???? :? :? :?

I have read all about the sarigerme tours and they look good value/recommended etc but what price are the FC ones? is there much of a difference? also do FC offer anything different thatw worth considering?

Any trip recommendations appreciated.
