I have just booked for 5th June using Onur (Via an Agent) going to Olu Deniz for a total of £274 AI for 7 nights.
If there is no inflight entertainment, what can I take on board, could I use my PSP or Mobile DVD player ?
When we went with Onur last July the kids had their portable DVD players and gameboys with them, only problem was we had a bit of turbulance on the way back and these had to be turned off during this, as you can imagine kids not too happy when half way through a DVD or game and being told too switch off, couldn't have been helped and it didn't last long.
We are travelling with them on 17th August this year. Have travelled to Turkey with Excel Air and wouldn't really recommend them, hope Onur air are better!!! We had a 14 hour delay with Excel air and that was horrendous was so relieved to be out of Manchester Airport!!!
We were supposed to be flying April 30th at 21:00 and it has been changed to April 29th. Then yesterday we got a letter saying times had changed from 21:00 - 22:20. Hopefully no more changes though.
I always panic and think, do they know how to fly a plane do they know how to build a plane
There prob better than we are I guess
I go in Sept I will report back
Onur Air use Airbus' so they are well built with British built wings! The pilots are well trained and very experienced and should be respected as professionals. The cabin crew are a different story although its more airline policy than the individuals (I'll not elaborate!). Then there is aircraft maintenance, I'll say no more! As long as they get you there and back safely, that's all that matters. I've flown with them once but to be honest, unless Onur are the only airline available, never again although others on here have had positive experiences with them.

I might go on a catapult then instead

[Then there is aircraft maintenance, I'll say no more!] - Dazbo's quote, but I dont know how to use the quote thingymajig lol
but I did fly with Onur Air July and Sept 06, and apart from turbulence in Sept (which I have had with many airlines) I had no complaints with the flight or the cabin crew.
If anything, they were outstanding, there was one woman who was absolutely petrified of flying, and they spent ages with her calming her, then she was taken on the flight deck for over an hour and the Captain reassured her with all her worries over flying.

They are a budget airline like Easy Jet but they still have to meet standards. I once flew with Nigeria Airlines.....chickens in the overhead compartments and some guys washing their feet in their seats. The pilot smelled of whisky and everyone was waiting with their bags standing while the plane was still landing. Me I was just glad to land! lol
Oh my goodness, I would have been so happy to land too
I have to be honest, Dazbo's comments worry me a little, but I wont ask him to say any more
Please accept my apologise if I've worried you, that wasn't my intention. Onur Air were banned not too long ago from four european countries with various issues. These bans have since been removed and they are better than what they used to be. They conform to British standards for airlines flying in UK airspace. The maintenance I was refering too was that of only one opperational toilet on our flight to Dalaman on one of their Airbus A300B4-605R's with 300 passengers onboard, and even that wasn't flushing properly. In this day and age, that is unacceptable in my eyes. I know they are a low cost airline, but I would expect them at meet certain basic standards. My reference to the cabin crew was aimed at having emergency exits unmanned during landing and take off. Like I said in my previous post, I'd fly with them again if they were last resort, but probably not under any other circumstrances. I only flew with Onur because our flight with Pegasus was cancelled at short notice. Cost for me wouldn't be an issue. Mainline airlines aren't much different to Onur if you shop around. I never did get round to finishing my flight reviews, I'll try and get them finished so you can read all.
There are many people on here who have had good experiences with Onur. I suspect most of them flew on their newer Airbus A321's though. From your comment on the person on your flight who was taken to the flight deck, that is what I mean about the crews. Since 11th September 2001, all flight deck visits were banned and the flight deck door required to be secure at all stages of flight. That should not have happened. It was good of them to help the passenger overcome her fears and reassure her, but still, its against standards opperating procedures. A captain of a flight in the far east has just been suspended from active duties for 3 months for not ensuring his flight deck door was secured during flight.

I have been reading another thread that has helped ease my fears a little, it explained about the thrust etc being lowered after take off, plus a few other things, so hopefully this will make my next flight a little more pleasant.
I read one your review yesterday on your recent flight to Cuba, it was excellent, well done.

No worries. I've been involved in a bit of fear of flying stuff. Have you seen the Fear of Flying Help Course. There's an acompying DVD to go along with it which I had an input in to in terms of some of the photography and videography. It was developed by an active airline Captain, its pretty good. PM me if you'd like a copy.
Darren
I have saved that to my favourites to have a read later. Stuck in work at the moment.
Thanks again,
Sent you a PM.

Flights are basic but planes are comfy and good leg room i thought, seats sit 3 abreast in two rows with main aisle in centre not very wide though. staff are not very talkative and barely manage to smile. you board the flight and within half an hour you're eating! cigs are very cheap on duty free but the rest is not such a good deal. best to buy alcohol at turkish airpot. flight out was ok, it was a night flight which we had never done before, and we flew into bodrum airport. as the planes are small you notice every movement, being that bodrum airport has mountains eitherside of it, you can get a wind channel which makes it turbulant. i personally hate flying so was almost cyring as we came in, whilst some silly cow in the row behind was telling her two kids isnt this exciting and scary...was relieved when we touched down thats for sure as for the flight home i was not keen on the pilots flying main flight was fine but the landing at gatwick was a bit imo he came in to land to fast and he ended up using all the runway to stop everyone breathed a sigh of relief when we came to a halt, it then took us some 10 minutes to taxi to our gate! also just to add the plane we flew on looked pretty new inside but only one toilet was working. as for the food it is basic and edible if you are hungry its usually a casserole type dish with rice, a bread roll with cheese butter and a rice pudding with jam. they serve free soft drinks once and if you are lucky tea and coffee after your meal but that is it then. if you buzz they will bring you water. you can use non radiowave items like mp3/dvd/psps etc.
Dazbo,
Col, I've flown with them a few times and never had a problem. Fair enough they're a basic budget airline but the planes are ok, the pilots professional and the crew nice. We're flying with them again in may.
