Hi RIK - do the cabs accept GBPs ?...or only lira ???

...we went to Marmaris last year and lots of places prefered GBPs or Euros to local currency...is it the same in this part of Turkey ??

Thanks
Judy

Hi judy, Pay in YTL then you know exactly what you are paying from the Meter. They will take any currency but are you smart enough to work out what rate they are offering ? I'm not and I live here.Pay in Turkish Lira ( YTL ) and check the price before you agree to go with the cab. that way you should be ok. I do not understand anybody coming to Turkey and wanting to pay in Dollars or Stirling. You will always lose out.

Hi Thanks for your replies.

Thats good that the taxis are so cheap, as its ridiculous paying £100 for a return. Are they still as cheap when you arrive in the early hours of the morning?

At the moment I am trying to find a decent flight there. First choice have nice flights but no hotel availability for the first few days. Thomas cook are generally night time flights which would mean paying for 2 additional nights that you don't acctually use.

I ask about the playground as I need to see if it has monkey bars on it. Silly request I hear you saying, but my daughter does gymnastics and she has to keep up with her chin ups (as a comp 2 weeks after getting back from here). We also need a decent grass area where she can practice her floor routines.

Thanks and I will let you know if I can find some decent flight as we have been trying to get here for the last 3 years.

Oh yeah I did try DIYtravel but they have no availability.

Thanks

Hi Nicolaw :)

We got some reasonable flights with Airtours if thats any help (booked through Directline Holidays.
I don't know where you are flying from, but XL.com may be able to help - though they have, I know, cancelled alot of routes from the regional airports, to Antalya this year.

You could also try Travelrepublic for accommodation - its on their listings.

Just checking though that you rang DIYTravel, as last year I was having mega problems booking the Titanic with kids, on lots of sites, nearly every one came up no availability but if you put in just adults there was availability ..and this was over 12 months out !! There seems to have been a widespread problem with the hotel on this score - I was told they had forgotten to release the family room availability ...however, when I rang DIYTravel, they sorted it out for me. I don't know if the same problem exists now ???

Hope you get sorted out soon !

PS Can't wait for the report Emma !!!!

Yes I have tried everywhere really to find suitable flights and accommodation.

Airtours do have a good flight for Sunday 3rd June for a week, but unfortunately half term here is the week before so ideally we want to travel around the 28th for around 10 days. Flying from Manchester. First choice flight is the 25th, but i can't get the hotel until the 28th with somewhere 2 stay .com.

Will try again. Airtours have the hotel but £200 more than somewhere to stay.

Will keep working on it

We went there last year at half term in May and had a brilliant holiday. No piccies to post but the play area was for younger kids (under 10) and had couple of trampolines, playhouse/slides and what you would expect at park here in the UK.

The kids club is in the Santa Maria (the 'ship' in the pool) or outside in the play park under a huge canopy if it is hot. there is also a video arcade and ten pin bowling, or table tennis/air hockey. All those you have to pay for. (kids club is free but some activites have a charge such as T-shirt paining, pony ride etc).

My kids were 9, 6, and 5 last year and they all loved it to bits. There is also adu activities such as boules, rifle shooting, archery, darts, aquafit, step, aerobics all free.

I would recommend to anyone. But be aware there are still few brits there. Seems to bother some people a lot but did not bother us in the least - was quite nice actually!

Thanks for that. It does sound really good.

Were the pools warm at that time of year? Did your kids find any others to play with or were they content with each other.

The Titanics websites states the childrens game park has an entrance fee. Is this the place with the trampolines?. Did you notice any monkey bar type of things in the playground?

We don't mind there not being too many Brits there as we have been to Egypt the last two years and have been lucky that there was always a kid or two for my daughter to play with.

What would you say the facilities are like for a nearly 3 year old?

We would ideally like a kids club he could go with his sister for an hour or so occassionally but I guess he can't do this here since you have to be 4.

Thanks very much

Is it worth asking Airtours if they will price match Somewhere2stay ????..

Also try Eclipse (they had a good offer of free child places last year) - they are often cheaper than Airtour but are the same company.

Just checked the prices and for two weeks with eclipse its £3979.30, one week on the 1st June is £1867.

Really silly prices.

Will do full review and answer any questions on my return, were only going for 1 week on 11th. As for the a la carte questions, there is a review in trip advisor which states all a la carte restaurants incur a cover charge of 7 euro's per person, £5 sterling roughly. i doubt you'll get the tour operator to honour last years brochure, good luck tho!

PS would the kids club be suitable for my 3 1/2 yr old, do you have to sign them in etc? thanks

Still waiting to hear back from Cosmos regarding a la cartes. Spent most of the day on musical hold. They are still claiming three visits per stay ( no fee) in this years brochure and on their website. If we went three times and paid for all four of us that would be 84 euros. Not all inclusive.
Anyway...I'll stop moaning. Have a fantastic time Emma. Have you booked inter-connecting rooms? We have booked the one room for all four of us and have been told there will be two extra beds. Hope they don't expect our two boys (9 and 12) to share a sofa bed. Hopefully the rooms aren't too small. So excited about going and can't wait to read your review.

hi all

Kids club - you don't sign them in or out (or did not last year) which worried me a wee bit but as my oldest was 9 he kept an eye on the 6 and 5 year old. If younger kids (aged 3) are used to nursery/playgroup I would say that they will be okay at the club. The ladies who ran it last year were Russian, Dutch and Turkish but all spoke English fine and the kids loved them.

We did not have to pay for the trampolines or to get into the playpark (although the brochure said that you did...) and my son is pretty sure that the park has monkey bars.

We did not have to pay for the a la cartes but I believe that this may have changed since we were there.

Do have a turkish bath when there (was about 35 euros each I think - or was it 35 pounds?) as really does bring out the tan. Keep your bikini bottom on though!

We were booked in interconnecting rooms but they had overbooked so we had a free upgrade to the VIP villas - now that was a result!!!

The turkish staff loved it if you learnt just a few words of turkish (please, thank you, hello, and I learnt to count to 10 so I could order lots of beer!!!!) so have a go.

Loved this hotle to bity. Wish we could afford it again this year but we're off camping in Devon...

Hi,

We have not booked interconnecting rooms, we went for a standard room, but then last week upgraded to a sea view which was an extra £56.00 for all of us, i'll let you know if it was worth it or not, just i read a review were someone sai d rooms at back of hotel face a dual carriageway and can be noisy?
my 3 year old goes to nursery, think i'll check the kids club out when we go and decide, only a week, so will probably be happy with beach pool etc!

Rooms with a 'hill view'are on the same side of the building as the dual carriage way - but it is down a large driveway, over land, past shops and then the road so unlikely to be bothered by it at all. And certainly not busy by UK standards.
I hope you love the place as much as we did...

Thanks for that info mrsgaz and Emma. If the weather stays like this camping in Devon will be fab.
We have booked a sea view room at a cost of £112.00!! Hope it's worth it.
Does anyone know if they are all at the front?

Thanks, the other Emma.

Hi there
Sea view rooms are at the front and some along the sides. The shape of the hotel is such that a lot of the rooms look towards the sea and have a great view and others you have to stand in a certain way in the balcony to get.
The sea is gorgeous, clean, clear and the beach is beautiful. There is a bar on the jetty too, so plent of water/juice/beer to keep you cool.
The site is huge and not having to take any towels means more space for clothes!!!
Wish I was joining all you guys - don't forget to post reviews!

Thanks for all your help mrsgaz. Sorry to keep picking your brains! But.....can you hear the disco from the rooms at night. We have stayed at club pacific in Side and club sun city in Olu Deniz before and both were so noisy til fairly late at night. (Still had great holidays though.) The air conditioning was rubbish at both places as well so you would roast if you closed the windows. Is it good at the Titanic? I guess at the end of May, beginning of June it's pretty hot at night?
Still haven't heard back from Cosmos regarding a la cartes. Over a week now.

Hi there
last May we had temperatures in high 30's and even 42 two days! So we did use the air conditioning and it worked a treat.
As to the disco we could not hear that at night - however you can hear the shows which go on until about 10.30. But its not thumping music/disco noise. the actual disco/'nightclub' is indoors and goes on until very late (the latest we stayed was until 1 am and then gave in!)
I did need a cardi one evning but that was as i had sunstroke and had the shivvers - got some funny looks from the other holidaymakers!
