Limassol has changed a lot in the last few years, bars now full of big screen tv's, the beaches have black sand, up near the Four Seasons Hotel and down near the old town are sandy, flat and some good waves. Worth a visit for Jonny's bar (nr four seasons) and Happy Jack's (nr atlantic hotel) and the bakery alone.

Beach very dirty, everything quite expensive and some of the products in the shops on the sea front looked as if they had been ther was years.

Although it is a suburb of Limasol, the Amathus area is a distance from the hustle of downtown, and a little more quiet than the main tourist area. It is one long seafront, with a dual carriage way along, busy nearer the town.
I found Amathus area to be less busy and a little more select, some large 4 and 5 star hotels are directly by the sea, with the road behind them. Some hotels have a beach in front which although a grey sand, is cleaned and raked daily, the walk ways are clean and there are many people walking along the coastal walk, which links the areas.
There are a smattering of good bars, pubs and places to eat, along with shops.
If staying in Limasol I would choose this area again, as the hustle further down is not more me, or past Amathus again there a few nice hotels which are in a even quieter part. Choose wisely and you will enjoy it, but if you are looking for a quiet tourist resort this is not for you. Also in this area choose a sea facing room, not one by the road, also check the hotel is by the sea, some are across the busy road.
We had a car and found Limasol a great centre to get to the monuments, Troodos and several other places of interest,it also was a nice to visit the old town in late afternoon and stroll around.
Two things with regard to Limasol, firstly it is a very large and busy working city and port. Secondly there are alot of nationalities who visit this area, not all are there for the sun and sand!!!The 5 star hotels seem to have there fair share of these visitors. A sign of the times.
I enjoyed Cyprus and will go again, if it is to Limasol, I will stay exactly in the same area.

I really fell in love with the area of Limassol as well. The beach which ran along side the coast road for miles wasn’t really what I would call a beach ie., not much sand just pebbles and the sea was rather cold and there was a lot of rubbish round and about. But it did not spoil lovely walks along the prom with the waves washing up around your feet. Also the centre of Limassol there always seemed to be a really good atmosphere with both the locals and tourists – the Cypriots actually seem to like us English, which is not something I have come across very often when holidaying abroad. We really felt like we fitted in. We want to visit the other parts of the island on future holidays but I think we will have to return to Limassol at least once a year in the future we loved it.

Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus and, had we not been on an allocation on arrival, would not have chosen to visit this resort.
No opportunity to walk by the beach, hardly any beach at all and too built up for my liking.
Other apartments/hotels close to the Atlantica Hotel were quite poorly maintained.
Please make sure you are careful when crossing the roads, many drivers, even bus drivers, do not stop at red traffic lights or zebra crossings!

The area we were in was well enough away from the noisy nightlife but easy enough to get to if thats what you liked.
If anything bad can be said, crossing the road can be dodgy, cypriot drivers tend to be blind and fast.

ten mile stretch of sea-front with no shade at all.Like huge suburb with sea-front. New building of promenade, but beaches are v.poor. One big series of restaurants and small sea-front shops. No atmosphere whatsoever. Won't be back.

The resort was great, plenty of restaurants to choose from, all offering friendly service, especially Toscana's. Lots of bars where you got good service. Limassolis an ideal place as a base enabling you to visit the mountains or coastal villages. The beaches although dark were clean & the sea was very inviting. Hiring a car is easy & a good way to see the rest of the island-take a trip to the mountains & see how the other half lives. It was our first visit to Cyprus & we can't wait to go back again next year
