Expert Opinion

Paphos is a picturesque town with a small harbour. There are lots of touristy shops and restaurants along the front but you can venture into the back streets for other options, or into Paphos old tow…

This was our 5th visit to Cyprus. Our 1st long term stay in Paphos.
Plenty of things to do. The harbour area is there focal point with lots of tavernas etc. A visit to the fort is well worth it..(free on Sundays). Also visit the ruins and look at the mosaics.

If your wear specs, this is the cheapest place you'll find for eye tests and new specs made within days, its amazing!
Less than half of that in the UK.

Catch a No 10 bus and visit the market. But remember to cover your shoulders, my friend wasn't wearing a shirt and was told he couldn't get on.
Leather goods are cheap too.

Also visit the Aphrodite Water Park...very good.
For some reason though, the return fare on a bus is 10 cents dearer...(strange)!
Beaches in the resort are non-existent apart from a little man made effort behind KFC's. Just walk a bit further on and you'll find them. Or catch a bus up to Coral Beach.
If it IS beaches you want, then anywhere east of the AYIA NAPA towards PROTARAS and PERNERA is where you'll find them.

Kato Paphos itself is a fabulous place to visit there are hundreds of things to keep you and the kids entertained.

The Paphos waterpark is a must. Me and my son also went on a 3 hour fishing trip which was great (never been fishing before). There is also the historical part of Paphos with the mosaics and Tomb of the Kings. One thing that is annoying is the dreaded timeshare touts they travel in cars and bikes and jump out on you.

The entertainment close to the Paphos gardens is very good also you have Zambesi restaurant Kooh I Noor indian and the Evis bar where every Friday they have an Elvis impersonator on and he is that bad he is brilliantly funny.

Paphos is a rather mixed place, parts like the harbour are attractive and parts like the Tombs of the Kings Road are dreadful!

However you are not forced to spend time in the bad parts! Hire a car and most of the island is very pleasant. We also did a jeep safari to the Akamas Peninsula which was good. Be sure to visit the Pafos Mosaics at the harbour.

Aphrodite Waterpark is excellent - we went twice. Also the go-karts at the Paphos Karting Centre.

Avoid eating at 'Metaxas' restaurant off the Tomb of the Kings Road. Both service and food were appalling!

The resort itself was good with plenty of evening entertainment available. There seemed to be a distinct lack of beaches available(mostly rock & pebble) but I suppose that holidaymakers spent much of their time at their hotel pools. We hired a car and made many tours to various towns and landmarks and are glad we did as it may have become pretty tedious spending all our time in Paphos.

Area was very clean but watch out for holes were the are putting palm trees and pavement wasn't very safe. The beach was very clean and there was watersports on every beach we went to.

The harbour was quite far away. It was a good walk away but taxi's were easy to find.
The best beach was coral bay. Which was a bus ride away but stay on the bus until the end.

We have been to Paphos several times now over the past three years. During the quieter season the resort entertainment can be a little more limited.

I have never spent any length of time on the public beach as our hotel had a private beach which was clean.

There are plenty of great resturants to eat at especially down on the harbor que side.

We found it incredably easy to find your way around in the car and there is ample parking almost everywhere.

Paphos is an extrodinary place full of history, and modern entertainment. The transport is modern, the locals go out of their way to help, and all speak very good english. So much so we were could not practice the local language. As a young family all places visited made us feel welcome and were very friendly and kind towards children
