The resort of Stalis has one long road opposite the beach which is full of tavernas, bars some with bouncy castles at the back for the kids which is a great idea for keeping the kids amused while the grown ups could just sit have a beer and a natter also people watch!!
The beach towards the centre of stalis is narrow and very busy, but if you head towards the hotel Ickaros village and cut through you come to a larger section of beach perfect for snorkelling with the kids or just enjoying the chilled atmosphere created by many nationalities that visit stalis year after year!!!
Stalis can become busy in the peak months but never rowdy unlike malia which is a 25 minute walk away! Stalis has everything on offer for families and couples who like good food and great beach based holidays...
We shall return very soon!!!!

Stalis on the whole is flat, so it is great for disabled people.
The people are really friendly, nothing is a bother. Lots of Irish bars, The shopkeepers all speak English. You can buy everythink you want at the local shops even lurpak butter. Beach is always packed but clean.
Lots of the pubs do quizes and bingo. The pubs are open until the early hours of the morning. There is if course night clubs for the young one. It was amazing we were only a little way off the main street, yet we could not hear any noise at all.

Satlis is a lovely resort offering plenty for both young and old.Wide variety of restaurants and bars to choose from.Plenty of supermarkets if you are self catering.Close to the lively resort of Malia but more low key.Lovely beaches where you can always find a lounger.Beaches are clean and safe with plenty of watersports on offer.
If you want quiet you can have it but if you want noisy you can have it.
Highly recommended for all age groups.Particularly good for families and couples.

Stalis itself is beautiful and very understated.
The beach is fantastic, clean and sandy with lots of sunloungers available and watersports on offer for all the family.
The town centre is literally a long road full of shops and restaurants. The Golden Beach and Gallini are a must, the food is divine and the atmosphere cannot be beaten.
There is a wide range of shops ranging from the traditional souvenir shop to the more exotic! Watch out for the quad bikes though!
The locals are extremely welcoming and love children. The WaterParks are a must, and if you get the opportunity to hire a car and explore the island, prepare to be stunned by it's sheer beauty.
Agios Nikolaos, Spinalonga and Santorini are beautiful as is the Lassithi Plateau.
The island is full of history and is well worth a visit, Stalis itself we found to be perfect for the family.

The beach is very popular - lots of sunbeds. Near the town so you could get drinks and snacks from supermarkets or bars and restaurants. The quad bikes and scooters get on your nerves. Loads of places to eat and drink. Very lively.

Stalis is a long road that leads into Malia. It would take about an hours stroll to reach the end of Stalis.
There are a lot of restaurants at the Amazones end and al the meals we had were great. Our best restaurant was the Golden beach. We went there every day for a lovely breakfast and there is a fantastic atmosphere in the evening where they smash plates, excellent food and fun etc. Alex and Costas two of the waiters have worked together for years and are a great laugh.
Other restaurants we liked are Roma, and the nearest one to Amazones, the romantic corner. There weren’t a lot of "adult" music bars in the strip nearest Amazones but we only managed to walk down about half of the road so there could be more further on.
There were some English young lad and lasses groups in Stalis due to Malia being overrun in the peak season and they all took cabs into Malia for the evening. It’s a shame as some groups were pretty rude on the beach and revving up quad bikes in the day.
The beach is a nice sandy strip. The sun beds vary in cost from 3 Euros to 6 euros for two beds and a brolly.

Due to the location of the apartments we stayed in the area bounded by the traffic light junction/Anthoussa Hotel/Happy Train station and were very impressed by the standard of both bars and restaurants in this area.
There wasn't a 'scruffy' place in sight. Service was friendly and excellent. Cocktails and Desserts were presented wonderfully (my wife has never been served a cocktail with a whole banana on it before!). You always got a small tray of nibbles with your drinks (nuts, popcorn, nachos etc) and complimentary drinks (and not always just shots) when paying your bill - in Baywatch Restaurant in particular we never got out without being stopped for a second free drink as we were leaving.
My only problem with the meals is that you got too much and I hated to waste such lovely food, in the end I was eating childrens portions! Another point is that in every restaurant you got what you ordered, if you didn't want peas, vegetables or salad and wanted jacket potato instead of chips and no tomato sauce on your rice then that's what you ended up with - every time. Wish English restaurants and pubs could manage this!
In the full fortnight the most we ever paid for a meal (Normally a shared starter, two main meals and a shared dessert (try a waffle in the Rose and Crown, would normally feed me for a week) and a litre of house wine) was 35€ (£25 at the rate we were getting).
Recommended restaurants:- Baywatch, La Fontana, Camelot and The Rose & Crown.
Recommended bars/cafe bars:- Sofokles, Medusa, Milia Bar and The Rose & Crown.
Well recommended, if it wasn't for the wanderlust we seem to have developed since our children have grown up I would return tomorrow (....and who knows!)
