Great place, loads of hustle and bustle. Plenty of ATM`s and Change places. Good bars - particularly The Red Lion at the circle. ( girls, leave your hubby in the bar and go and get pampered at the salon across the road !!)The beach is great - cows, watersports, cows, people, cows, cows..... ha ha! Deffo going back. Missing it already and only been home for 2 days !

I have visited the north Goan resorts around 13/14 times now and things change each time. New hotels and new restaurants all come and go - popular one season and not so popular the next, however the essence of the place remains pretty much the same as does the friendliness of the Goan people. I am returning with my friends and family again in March 2009 and we can't wait!!!

We have been visiting calangute for 12 years, once you get over the culture shock on your first visit you get used to the dogs and cows that amble along the roads, we enjoy nothing more than watching the world go by in Calangute while we enjoy a drink and a meal.
Calangute beach is a busy stretch with lots of beach shacks and water sports, must admit we prefer the less hectic strech down at Candolim get let hassle from beach sellers and fewer shacks so more relaxed.
Go down to end of Baga for clubs, but plenty of bars elsewhere and first class eating places for all tastes.

You have probably already uncovered the truth about Calangute: It is filthy, with rubbish lying around, stray dogs everywhere, the smell of petrol fumes and cooking constantly in the air. That said, I cannot deny the appeal of the place. The pace of life is different in Goa, and Calangute itself is not a typical Goan town. There are plenty of great places to eat and drink, and if you don't like it in Calangute, Baga is a short walk in one direction whilst Candolim is slightly further in the other (I will say that Baga is slightly tidier and attracts a younger crowd whilst Candolim is more family oriented). In Calangute you will be harrassed by taxi drivers, merchants, waiters, street children and guys who bizarrely want to clean your ears for a few pennies. It was definitely a shock to the system, but once you talk to the locals and just experience it all for a few days, it will really get under your skin. I was very sad to leave, and hope to return one day. Commercial and overwhelming it may be, but it is also friendly, exhilirating and fun. The beach was good too.

We have visited Goa several times and each time we have returned it has got worse. The beaches in Baga and Calangute have gone from idyllic to horrendous. People are packed onto the beach like sardines and the beach itself is filthy. Hassle is non-stop. The food in most shacks and restaurants is excellent but other than that Goa is now unfortunately spoilt. Would I visit Goa again? Never!

We wanted a quiet and peaceful holiday and that is exactly what we got. The hotel is beautifully designed, the rooms are spacious. The whole staff must have just finished a customer service and friendliness training, because they were all too friendly.Good job.
The quietness of the surroundings and the serene beach gave me the perfect vacation to unwind, yet keeping in touch with the outside world through the excellent facilities available in the hotel. A good and well maintained hotel. Swimming pool is awesome. And last but not least, the buffet is every day something different and very tasty for all kinds.

Although we all found that the standard of cleanliness on the streets and beaches etc were less than perfect,it did not spoil the holiday for us at all, entertainment was limited but there were regular beach barbecues, and organised trips are plentiful and well organised.
The people of Goa are a delight and very friendly

Usual rubbish on the road sides, several men seen urinating in street not only at night but in broad daylight
No real entertainment in resort
Beach at Calangute very crowded and lots of pressure from sellers on the beach. Beach clean and up to usual standard of most others
