Request a room that is facing away from the pool area if you want quiet at night. The rooms facing out have great views and are also very quiet at night even though there is live entertainment going on.

They have water stations dotted around the hotel, which is a great idea. You buy a recyclable bottle for €4 and you can fill it as many times as you like! Saves on buying lots of plastic bottles from supermarkets etc. Eco Friendly ?

Pool view rooms are good, if you want to watch the entertainment from your room. The entertainment is over by 11pm so no problem with noise, unless you go to bed early. Calypso 1 is the block with the restaurant, bars, etc. so I thought it the best choice

When you did venture out you had to fight your way down a v narrow high street were every bar/shop/restaurant had a guy outside trying to drag you in, the town is just hustle city where you know every time you put your hand in your pocket you are been ripped off.
I would not go back that’s what the bottom line is

have been to salou before, its great, but very busy. as we came here in july we expected it to be.realy nice beach and small coves all clean and tidy.as it was so busy, there was some litter about, but mainly flyers that are handed to you as you walk past.promenade was really clean and nice to walk along to the old town.we sat and watched the children playing and running through the water fountain, people jogging and familys just walking together. weather was hot with a breeze at night.sat people watching and drink ice cold beer at night.various bars and clubs to visit if thats what you want.will be going back again.

This holiday was planned for the kids (two girls 8 & 11) with Portaventura being the main reason we picked Salou as a resort. Portaventura did not disapoint us. We bought a two week pass before we went (approx £40 - £50 each) which was the best thing we did. You can't buy these at the park with a 3 day pass costing around 60 euros.
We went 5 times to Portaventura and loved it every time. Best at night with the shorter queues and cooler.
Salou is mostly high rise hotels with a lot of British style bars of which most sell food. We went self catering. There were good places and bad to eat but some we enjoyed other people didn't find great so really individual tastes are what counts. The Harp (Irish Bar) had good food at a decent price. We weren't impressed with the general variety, not a lot of traditional Spanish cuisine mainly roasts, burgers, spaghetti or chinese. None were of great quality and not very cheap either.
The hotel is around a 20 minute walk from Portaventura, around 8 euros in a taxi. Around 15 minutes from the main beach at Salou which is crowded and we felt not very clean looking. The main waterfront is nice with great fountains and some nice shops for a look around. The smaller beach (10 minute walk) is far nicer, less crowds and better for a young family (easier to keep an eye on them).
There is not much for kids to do at night outside the hotel. None of the bars have much kids entertainment, no jumpy castles etc.
Overall it was worth going for Portaventura but that's about it.

The hotel is located in Cap Salou and we got the bus to Sakou itself but did not like it as it was peak season and very very busy, I much preferred La Pineda which was in the other direction and downhill but we did get the bus back as it was uphill in 35 degree heat.

This was our second visit to La Pineda and we noticed quite a change from our last visit. The resort seemed quite tatty and dirty. Vomit and dog dirt was still there after several days. A couple of times I was surprised to find people begging for money in the supermarket. The resort seemed noisier and more crowded.

Cap Salou is a fairly laid back and family oriented resort(perfect for us,3 kids)
Salou is a lovely walk along the beach front away,or a short bus ride.It is loud and brash, and interesting.
Lots of shop selling everything(always barter with them re footy strips etc)
La Pineda is the opposite direction, and likewise,a short walk or bus ride away.
Portaventura is a must visit(bought 2 week pass)not only the rides, but make sure you take in the shows(western stunt show, graveyard show(about 10 15pm,when you see the graveyard, wait, you could miss it,and it is very funny)
And make sure you stay til the big fireworks show at the end of every night(about 11.45 pm)it was fantastic, not to be missed,I promise you
DO Not eat at Treasure Island, very poor standards.
We ate at a few places, but none were as good as Little Hampton,or Buddys(owned by the same people).
Good sized portions, great service(they even come and pick you up free of charge, just call them, and they sort it out)very reasonable prices.
Little Hampton is in the main strip(go there).
If you are going on an excursion,DO NOT book it through your rep,go to one of the Plana(local bus company)red boxes(all over Salou,Cap Salou)and book through them.
We went to Barcelona for the Nou Camp, and the Magic Fountains, and it was 95euros cheaper, and it was a luxury coach, with a tour guide, and we spent 3 hours in Barcelona city centre aswell,an excellent day out(even my Wife enjoyed it)
It is a great place to visit,Portaventura gives it the edge over many other parts of Europe
