Not a 4star and dated, and some staff members rude , we book this hotel on its ratings , but it about a 3star

Request a room that is facing away from the pool area if you want quiet at night. The rooms facing out have great views and are also very quiet at night even though there is live entertainment going on.

They have water stations dotted around the hotel, which is a great idea. You buy a recyclable bottle for €4 and you can fill it as many times as you like! Saves on buying lots of plastic bottles from supermarkets etc. Eco Friendly ?

Pool view rooms are good, if you want to watch the entertainment from your room. The entertainment is over by 11pm so no problem with noise, unless you go to bed early. Calypso 1 is the block with the restaurant, bars, etc. so I thought it the best choice

Beaches

The beach at La Pineda was lovely and clean and perfect for our 7 year old, as the sea was quiet shallow. La Pineda itself is very quiet compared to Salou, which is why we chose to stay here. It seemed to be more Spanish orienated with only a few English and Irish Bars. We stayed in the hotel most nights so this didn't bother us. There are a few shops and supermarkets and also the Water Park.

The resort was very clean but there was a bad smell that came from the water grids. The beach was fabulous and exceptionally clean. I would return here next year.

the beach was lovely although the sand was too hot too stand on! the sea was lovely and warm the only problem i found with the beach was that all the banana boats etc were up the far end of the beach, about a half an hours walk from where we were. good arcade on the promenade, just be careful as young local children (age 3-9) hang around hoping you will give them something! the only place we ate at was the waterfront as we went their the first night and loved it so much we went back every night. good english food and homely environment. after eating we would then go to Hennesseys, an amazing irish bar. you are made to feel at home the minute you walk through the door and they have lots to do such as afree pub quiz every nite and lots of games for all the family to get involved in. beware of the little clubs along the street, they come out with free shots to tempt you in, but their shots are heavily watered down, and of course we shouldnt drink their water leading me to be very sick after just one shot. Portaventura is the place to go. an amazing theme park, go at night as it is cooler and less crowded. the fireworks display at midnight is a must see and could be seen from our balcony at the cye marina. the aquapolis waterpark in la pineda is amazing and far better than the one at portaventura. it is bigger and more things to do. also cheaper i think. we went to salou for the day on the bus but we felt it was far too busy in the heat and we just wanted to sitdown a lot. buses are regular and cheap, but the bus drivers go quite fast so be warned! all in all i loved la pineda and would go back in an instant!

dissapointed in resort, felt tacky, lots of English grub if you like that sort of thing. Beach nice but very very crowded, we only managed to do the beach 1 day and we found a small space whoppeee !! only good thing with taking the train to Barcelona, great place, but the train gets very crowded too. I would NEVER go back to Salou as it isnt really our thing. When i visit abroad i like to sample their food and country not have "the typical brit seaside follow me". Felt too Brits Abroad to me. Sorry but def wont be returning

Strung out between Salou and Cambrils, the main street of the resort presents a superficially pleasant enough aspect. Brightly adorned shops shimmering in the noon-day rays with jay-blue sky backdrop.
Resort Cleanliness: The highest rating due, mainly, to the harbour and Cambrils centre area. The cleanliness cannot be disputed since there were very few people to make it otherwise. Once again, bins and recycling containers were plentiful but not plenty full (! sorry). Perhaps a 4 is unkind but the cleanliness was marred by the state of the beach...
Resort Entertainment: so low merely beacause we made no use of it. Those football fans among us will be pleased to know that almost every bar and eating house had a TV with the matches on. We would have liked more restaurants serving food (sic). if anyone can tell me where in the whole of Catalonia, we can go to find a nice local restaurant run by locals selling local food, full of locals eating it, please drop me a line!
Beach standard: The only thing that let the beach down was the sand. oh, and the gridirons with warning tape streamered down great swathes of it. Oh, and the 2 ton trucks, bulldozers and JCB's being used to redistribute the stuff down it's entire length. Hmmm, still, the kids had a great time playing in the sand that was heaped up for raking out and running along the great tyre tracks.
revisit: no thank you. Good place to catch a bus to Barcelona though.

Salou is cheap and cheerful but they have tried hard over recent years to tidy it up. The promenade is excellent, with play parks and facilties every 200 yards or so. The transport system is great also, cheap and easy to use.
Downside is the grafiti...and some of the lager lout stag and hen do parties. But if you can avoid that then Salou is a great central place for Barcelona and other attractions and great for families.
