Not a 4star and dated, and some staff members rude , we book this hotel on its ratings , but it about a 3star

Request a room that is facing away from the pool area if you want quiet at night. The rooms facing out have great views and are also very quiet at night even though there is live entertainment going on.

They have water stations dotted around the hotel, which is a great idea. You buy a recyclable bottle for €4 and you can fill it as many times as you like! Saves on buying lots of plastic bottles from supermarkets etc. Eco Friendly ?

Pool view rooms are good, if you want to watch the entertainment from your room. The entertainment is over by 11pm so no problem with noise, unless you go to bed early. Calypso 1 is the block with the restaurant, bars, etc. so I thought it the best choice

Beaches

We really enjoyed our stay in Salou. The resort was clean and very attractive along the front. Although we don't really like beaches, it did look good. Port Aventura is a definate must, although height restrictions do apply for young families. There are lots of places to eat and drink and plenty of places to visit. We travelled to Barcelona which we thoroughly enjoyed. Definately a great resort to visit!

The resort of Salou is great. We had a lovely fortnight there and felt very safe walking the streets late at night.
One of the best places we found to eat was Boomerangs in the town which was really nice. They were very friendly and by far the best value for money for breakfasts and main meals.
The best night out we had was at the house of Illusion. We went on the early night one which was 30 euros each but you get a meal and unlimited lager, wine or soft drinks. We took our two kids aged 11 and 13 and they had a great time. The magicians came to the table and did card tricks before the main show which was fabulous. It started off with a comedy magician who was hilarious followed by some amazing illusions, well worth it.
Portaventura was also a good buy, we had a seven day pass but only visited for three days and we still hadnt seen everything but the kids had had enough. We visited the caribe water park which was attached to Portaventura but you pay seperately for that which was ok but if you are planning a trip to a water park we would definately recommend the Aquopolis in Pineda which is only a 10 minute bus ride(but beware, there doesnt seem to be a maximum load on the buses so be prepared to hold on)!! Aquopolis is by far better than Caribe, the kids loved it so much that we visited twice. I would recommend take a picnic to Aquopolis as the food is rather expensive.
The main beach in Salou can get rather busy but there are a lot of little coves around if you would rather be a bit more peaceful. The beaches are very safe for the children and nice and shallow. Unfortunately we did notice more than one turd floating in the sea but it was only on one day and we never saw them again so just be on the lookout!
There are loads of cafes and bars along the seafront where you can sit and enjoy a cold beer or food overlooking the sea, we would recommend the Lunatic cafe bar which was really nice and served great sparkling cocktails and really nice food and the service seemed better than many of the others along that stretch.
We would definately be happy to return to Salou.

Cap Salou is a lovely place which is only a couple of miles outside of Salou but not alot goes on there. It is very small and there is very little to do here. I went there 22 years ago and very little has changed since then.
There are only a couple of Bars and Restaurants there we would recommend going to the Crows Nest theres a wicked guy on most nights who thinks he's Elvis, his singing is absolutely diabolical but a laugh. Go to The Smugglers Inn for a lovely meal.
There are regular buses running into Salou from outside the Molinos Hotel about every 10-15 mins which cost us 1.65 Euro also into La Pineda which has quite a few Bars and Shops etc.
Use the Supermarket underneath the Crows Nest as this has a bakery and is cheeper than most others.
I found the resort of Salou to be very dirty and rundown abit like Blackpool but hotter!
If you're looking for somewhere very quiet and out of the way then go to Cap Salou if you like it lively then stay well clear.

The resort was really nice (not as dirty as other people have said it was when they went). Ocassionally you came across some full bins, but nothing bad enough to spoil the holiday.
There is lots of shops, although alot sell the same stuff. Also you can't really enjoy a look round the shops which sell football tops etc as they come over to you straight away trying to get you to buy things.
Theres plenty of restaurants and bars etc all of which you could take children into.
Portaventura is also a good place to visit and worth a day out to.

If there is only one thing you do when you go to salou that is go on jeep safari, the drivers were fantastic and loads of fun, it was the best day out we had, the children loved it and wanted to go the following day aswell. Be prepared to get wet and take water pistols with you! We saw some beautiful parts of spain that day, totally different from salou which is very British. If you want a lovely meal try La Spezia their fish was amazing and our daughter loved their pasta. We would not visit Salou again but it wasnt a bad holiday.

The resort of Cap Salou is around 15 - 20 mins outside Salou. There is a small beach and some bars and restauraunts surrounding the bay. A couple of thenm are English and Irish owned and do offer a good meal at a good price. Let's say better than a Brewers Fayre not quite Gordon Ramsey.
So if you like quiet and good old British classics then you are catered for food wise. Nothing typically Spanish though.
In the centre is a small fairground and entertainment site so the kids an have a little fun to kill and hour or so after dinner(tea).
The beach here is small but okay with kids as they can't really go anywhere and theres enough sand for even the biggest castle.
Being a couple of Euros left or right on the bus it's central to go to either Salou , where the beach there is now fantastic with loads of activlity and water fun or to La Pineda where we had a great day at Aquopolis Water park which was great as each ride only had a 15mins queue at worst.
10 Euro in a taxi gets you to Salou train station where the take atrain for 11 Euro each to Barcelona for the day - well worth it. the journey by train is 90 minutes and extremely busy - almost London underground busy so be prepared to stand. You can take a bus excursion which guarantees you a seat but is about 30 Euro for the same journey.
One other point on Cap Salou, it's quite hilly so not great for the elderly to get about.
Would go back to Cap Salou but would pick a better quality hotel.

The site was slightly out of Salou but this didn't matter as there was an excellent bus running every half hour. Everywhere was very clean, Spain have definetly got their act together over recycling! Bins were everywhere and beach very clean. There wasn't much entertainment as such in the immediate area but this didn't matter as there was so much to do on the site. Beach got very busy and the locals thought nothing of setting up camp virtually on top of us but if this was a problem there were quieter beaches a bus ride away.
Excellent train service. Loads of waterparks/ themepark type visits in the area, the Roman town of Tarragona was well worth a visit, even though we fell victim to pickpockts! I would recommend the train there rather than the bus as much quicker. Train station only 10 mins walk from Campsite, also trains to Barcelona very cheap.

Resort was very good. Very lively, we didnt go out at night as we were so busy during the day. the beach was very nice but full. Portaventura was brilliant but long queues, sometimes the rides broke down after us waiting over an hour an we were told to go to another ride - very annoying, but it was a nice place, very lively.
I would definatly recommend Salou and Portaventura and a night trip to Barcelona.
