Not a 4star and dated, and some staff members rude , we book this hotel on its ratings , but it about a 3star

Request a room that is facing away from the pool area if you want quiet at night. The rooms facing out have great views and are also very quiet at night even though there is live entertainment going on.

They have water stations dotted around the hotel, which is a great idea. You buy a recyclable bottle for €4 and you can fill it as many times as you like! Saves on buying lots of plastic bottles from supermarkets etc. Eco Friendly ?

Pool view rooms are good, if you want to watch the entertainment from your room. The entertainment is over by 11pm so no problem with noise, unless you go to bed early. Calypso 1 is the block with the restaurant, bars, etc. so I thought it the best choice

Salou cannot be described as anything other than a dump - dirty stinking rundown hole. Cap Salou has no facilities or life - two complete extremes. With no scenery or places of interest we will never ever return here.

Salou is like your local city centre with palm trees and a fountain. Absolutely crammed full of English/Irish bars and restaurants showing Corrie/EastEnders/Big Brother/Sky Sports and tacky souvenir shops that want to rip you off. I love Spain and have been all over when I was younger but was so disappointed with Salou. Watch out for the pickpockets and watch the cash machines too, I'm currently trying to claim back money I never got from one! There is a Barclays on the sea-front(I know I was disappointed how "English" the resort was but after being ripped off, the relief at seeing it was huge.) Somebody said to me before I went that Salou was Spanish Blackpool and they were right.

Salou was disgusting, the streets were filthy with an awful smell of sewage in the air. It is almost like the Spanish have given up on it, there is nothing traditionally Spanish about it at all. All of the shops sell the same tacky rubbish and you are continually pestered by people trying to get you into their bars and restaurants. Also, twice we saw people selling drugs and were even offered them! The beaches in Salou are great if not a little overcrowded, head to Cambrilis if you want abit more space and some peace and quite. There is also a lovely park here for the kids.
The beach front in salou is the best it has to offer with some great restaurants, La Barca is worth a visit and Costa Cafe is a must, fantastic menu, they will give you salad instead of chips if you ask! Also, they have great chill out tunes to watch the sunset with. We kept clear of the main town for most of our stay and I would say that without a shadow of a doubt Salou is for those of you looking for cheap beer and chips and nothing more.
On the plus side for families is Portaventura, great for the kids but buy your tickets before you leave the UK, much cheaper. Caribe Aquatic is also great, very clean with lockers etc.... Don't miss Barcelona an amazing city quite simply stunning! Nou Camp is great for footballing history and for some serious shopping and a taste of traditional Spain head to Reus, it has a beautiful Gothic quarter. All in all Salou was extremely disappointing and not really for families, will not be coming back

We where last in the resort in 99 and one of the things we remembered from then was that there was always rubbish bins full at the side of the roads everyday which where particularly smelly. This hasn't changed and if anything has gotten worse. The resort itself is lively enough with lots for the kids to do and the fountains at night are amazing. still a lot of touting at night to get you in to pubs which can be a bit of a pain but in general most people where just having a laugh. When it comes to buying things from the sports shops always remember to haggle. When I was buying things from them I always started off with 14 Euros which was about a tenner and miles off their initial offer but I always managed to get them down to what I thought was a reasonable price. Don't be afraid to make an offer then walk away if they won't come down far enough as at the end of the day they know what they've paid for it and you'll be closer to the right price than them.

We found an amazing beach 10 minutes walk from our hotel. Not as busy as the main beach in Salou but still had all the same amenities.
Didn't do much of the evening entertainment outside of hotel and Port Adventura but looked as if there was something for everyone. Visited both water parks, full marks to both.
Will be back in Salou next summer.

never really fancied mainland spain myself but came to salou for the kids. portaventura was good if you have teenagers but absolute rubbish for babies and toddlers, we had both so we did visit there a few times. water parks were great for all ages but evening entertainment did not cater very much for families with young children. try the titanic it doesnt have much for the little ones but does have somewhere for them to run about, i.e a dance floor.

Never return to Salou. Portaventura was quite good but not worth the money unless you plan to go everyday. Salou comes alive around 8pm will most places not even opening until that time! Very noisy and full of 20 somethings. Not good place to be with children.

the cleanliness of the hotel was good.it wasnt dirty and the pool, was always cleaned. the beach was alright, you had to walk closer to the water to get a good spot but it was also very handy if you had children as there were a few playgorunds along the way.there were shops across the road and alot of pubs and aracades.this hotel would suit children of any ages, lots of people around.

la pineda is a smaller quieter resort than salou itself, but still has plenty of bars and restaurants although we only visited a few. the waterfront and the newyork park were 2 nice places to eat. there were plenty of shops which were quite cheap. there were a lot of small supermarkets but 3 main ones where you could buy everything you needed, even the brands you buy at home and i was pleasantly surprised they were much the same price as at home. the pineda park apartments are at the quieter more residential part of la pineda but 5 minutes walk takes you to the beach which was lovely and safe for kids and had lifeguards. 10 mins walk takes you to the livlier end where you will find more restaurants, bars and the waterpark (this was fantastic!). the bus service is excellent and cheap. the bus stop was round the corner from the apartments and it was about 15 mins to salou and portaventura theme park, which is great fun!! i would definitely go to la pineda again, it is quieter than salou but still has plenty to do!.
