Beaches

The resort is lovely with clean streets and flowers overhanging the walls. We had a fakir show, dancing competitions for the guests, a different show every night. The beach is beautiful with plenty of water sports, there is something for everyone.

Hammamet did have its nice spots but be careful of the Time shares people roping you in with scratch cards and telling you, youve won a thousand pound!
On the beach, especially for hotel mirarmar we told that is was a private beach...But got pestered all the time by peddelers selling us islamic prayer mats and fruit. This stopped us from relaxing.
I would rather go to spain.

We managed to visit a lot of the surrounding area. Hammamet is a busy coastal town which is easily reached by taxi for about £2. You will be approached by every shop keeper within a five mile radius and i recommend you develop very selective hearing and a thick skin quickly. The tunisians are lovely people who go out of their way to welcome you but if you say hello once you will have to say it a hundred times so be warned. You have to haggle for your goods and that in itself is an artform. Avoid any kind of street trader as they charge you for breathing the air if they think they can get away with it. There is little reason to feel frightened or apprehensive and the high visibility of police in the area is reassuring. Hammamet Yasmine is a good place to visit for an afternoon. Take a stroll along the beach from Hammamet to Hammamet Yasmine ( about an hour) and sit and have lunch in one of the lovely cafe/resturants. My daughter particularly liked the icecream they serve. A taxi back to Belair will cost you about £2.50. We visited Naebul for the day and because it is a bit more spread out it is a bit more relaxed than Hammamet. The market is a wonderful place to walk around, lots of little streets that seem to be empty of anything until you walk down them and then you find a whole world of little treasures. It is safe to walk around here and the locals tend not to bother you. We also visited Tunis. Our only mistake was to take the bus there. The journey from Hammamet is only 50 minutes and very cheap in a well maintained clean coach. However you will find that the bus terminates at the bus station which is on the outskirts of Tunis and you need to catch a train from there to the centre. The bus station is full of local people who just seem to sit and do not a lot of anything. You will be approached by a lot of people all offering help, directions, transport etc and for us this was so overwhelming that we did not even get out of the station! We ended up on the next bus back to Hammamet and never made it into the centre of Tunis which was a shame. Your best bet is to travel by train into Tunis as this will take you into the centre. I can honestly say that we were approached by at least two dozen friendly people within a space of a few minutes at the bus station and although i am sure they meant us no harm it was very overwhelming.
If you get the chance go for the half day camel ride trip! It was great fun and a lovely way to spend a few hours. Be brave and try the camels but if you really do not fancy it you can ride a horse instead. The little guy with the red hat is so friendly and really looks after you! Try taking the little train from Hammamet to the hotel ( it stops at the top of the street), it costs about £1.50 each and is fun even if a little uncomfortable. The area does seem to have a bit of rubbish lying around but to be honest it is more likely to have been tourists making the mess rather than the locals so the sooner we start to respect other people's countries the better.

We went at the end of Feb when the weather was quite variable. Not really beach weather. With mostly French channels on TV and only news in english, it was quite boring when it was raining. I would only recommend Tunisia during good weather and if you prefer a quite beach holiday.
A day trip from Hammamet to Tunis on a train was enjoyable and cost only £1.50 each way.

The beach was in a dreadful state with pieces of broken glass and pottery littering it all the way along. I can only assume it will be cleaned soon and a lot of this may be due to the stormy weather but keep shoes on at all times.

Hammemet is the older part of tourism in Tunisia.
The country is not generally clean and this is reflected on the amount of litter.
The beach is probably cleaned more regularly in the busy season.

The hotel part of the resort is first class. Outside as you would imagine not great but ok. We didn't go out of the hotel much, didn't need to found a nice pizza restraunt in town centre.

Hammamet its self is not really designed for tourists but the Yasmine are definitely is. we did not stay at Yasmine so cannnot comment about it. if you stay in the wrong area you can find it difficult to find a restaurant. Good beach though

The beach is just a short walk from the hotel and the water is fantastic.
Not much to do around the resort but a taxi will take you any where from 1 dinar to 10 dinars nabaul market on friday is great.
