All I can really say is never, ever again! It was the worst Hotel we have ever visited and the worst resort.

The hotel was shabby, nowhere near a 4 star, and we have travelled extensively throughout the World staying in many different ratings of hotels. The reception is ornate, but on closer inspection shabby and worn.

The rooms were clean but basic, with no information whatsoever on the hotel in the room. We had to go "exploring" to try and find things. The staff (apart from one or two) were unhelpful and mostly unfriendly. Their answer to almost anything was "No". We didn't even know which number to dial for reception. The bathrooms are spacious but the showers unpredictable - they ran either freezing cold or boiling hot - and we tried them at different times. The balconies are ok with towel rails but they are rusting quite badly, so don't take a white towel!

The food was absolutely diabolical. My husband usually eats anything and everything but even he struggled, and lost weight, which never happens! It was always either lukewarm or cold and all the meat was tough. This was in the buffet restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. The a-la-carte restaurant was all right, quite romantic, but I could only eat 2 things on the menu and our table had to be booked a few days in advance, you couldn't go there on a whim. The other restaurant - Le Jardin - was better than the main buffet restaurant but not as good as the a-la-carte. This also had to be booked in advance. Both my husband and myself had bad tummies almost every day of our week's stay. What we found bad was that, if you didn't like the food, or found it terrible, you had to pay extra to go into Port el Kantaoui, without a voucher for next day's lunch. We have never had this before in any resort throughout the World. Basically, if you didn't like the food it was tough, you went hungry!

The pool area was nice, but very crowded as the tours only went out on certain days i.e. Saturday's, Sunday's and Wednesday's. People playing water-sports were a problem, especially in the smaller pool as I was out of my depth and we had some near misses with footballs!

Smoking was a massive problem both in the hotel and in Tunisia as a whole. If you want lung cancer go to Tunisia! I have never had so many problems in my life before with smoking, even in this country. The hotel only had one very small area non-smoking, surrounded by smoking areas, with no (or extremely little) air conditioning and no extractor fans. I am allergic to smoke so had a bad headache my whole holiday. The pool area was terrible and we were surrounded the whole time by lots of people smoking.

The entertainment was typically British - karaoke, cabaret, transvestites and some guys singing and playing on organs. If you like this kind of thing, fine, but we hated it. You couldn't get away from it either, unless going out of the hotel completely, as the majority of entertainment was held on the patio out the back and it echoed terribly throughout the hotel. Whatever you do don't have a sea-view room, you won't get any sleep until well after 12!

There were a lot of cats in the grounds, most of them very thin which was distressing, especially if you are an animal lover like myself and my husband. Whilst we were there 2 brits (youngsters who were drunk) kicked to death a 2-3 week old kitten and left it for its mother to find. The staff of the hotel did absolutely nothing about it and neither did Thomson's - which I was disgusted about.

There is no way on this earth that this should be a Thomson Gold hotel. We did have kids around, which wasn't supposed to happen (kids over 12 only supposedly).

Myself my wife and 2 teenage daughters stayed at the Royal Kenz (2 weeks) during our first visit to Tunisia, we had a fantastic time and will be going back.
The Hotel was very clean, no complaints. we also got a wiff of the bug spray but as a result had a bite free holiday.
The food was good and we all enjoyed it, lots of choice. I came home with an upset tummy but I have the same problem when I visit Cornwall!
The location of the hotel was very nice with small shopping centres and cafes close by, the locals were very friendly and helpfull.
The staff were fantastic and we cant say enough about them.
The entertainment was ok the first time around but the time it finished was a problem as we opted for a pool view, we had made friends with other guests who had a room on the front of the hotel and heard none of it.
We will visit this hotel again and will enjoy it again. We were there the same week as the cat incident and it was sad but as for the cats being unhealthy, they were fine. We only heard 2 folkes complain about things in the hotel ie food but they wanted Mc Donalds and burger king??????
The walk to the port along the beech was very nice and we did it on more than one occasion. Fantastic.

This was my first experience of Tunisia. The people were very friendly and the weather was fab. If you are looking for value for money then this is the holiday for you. There wasnt a great deal to do in the hotel, but taxis were very cheap and easy to find. We spent most evenings in the main resort or off to nearby resorts. The food at hotel was okay, we both went home with very poorly tummies, but we did eat alot. Would like to go back but not for a couple of years, its still a little underdeveloped for us!

we have just returned following a wonderfully relaxing weeks holiday in this hotel.Food was excellent with plenty of choice and it made a great change to dine in the a la carte restaurants two nights a week.Upgraded rooms have a better view and ours came with flowers, fruit, wine and bottled water as well as tea making facilities and a fridge.Throughout the stay service was first class and despite a few children the hotel has an air of peace and quiet.Entertainment was limited and the annoying habit of reserving sun beds from the crack of dawn was tolerated despite many establishments now discouraging this practice.Overall however a very comfortable hotel which thoroughly deserves its four stars. Hope to visit again next year'

Our first visit to Tunisia. We wanted a relaxing beach holiday and that's exactly what we got.
The hotel was excellant. Very clean and plenty of little bars and restaurants within it. We really enjoyed the Italian and French al a carte nights which were optional and at no extra cost. It rang the changes from the main restaurant. The food was really good and plentiful and a vast range to suit all tastes. The beach was only a 5 minute walk and was ideal. White sand plenty of sunbeds and parasols. The 2 hotel pools were spacious and warm. The weather was scorching every day- a blue cloudless sky.
We freaked a bit the first time we went to the Marina - hadn't met with such shop touts before and very off-putting, but was much less hassle when we braved it again 2 nights later. Tunisian people very nice and will definately visit again and stay at the same hotel without hesitation.

Our first visit to Tunisia so was a little apprehensive, arrived at hotel and was pleasantly surprised. The cleanliness of the hotel was generally good, and our rooms always smelt lovely when we returned each day from the beach. Food was plentiful and we never found a problem with it, plenty of choice, lovely salad bar, a variety of meat, fish, pasta and veggie food. Crepes were yummy (especially the chocolate ones). I found the location a little bit limiting not enough shops etc in the immediate area. The hotel staff were excellent especially Izzy our waiter and our maid who was trying to teach us arabic!!
We found the entertainment could have been better considering the 4* rating of the hotel, but as we had met a really nice couple(hi Mandy & Paul) we didn't really find it a problem. We probably would visit this hotel again maybe in a couple of years.

We had booked a two week holiday at the Royal Kenz and were enjoying it so much that, as we are retired, we looked into the possibility of extending it. We asked at reception and were told that we could stay on at a cost of

All I have to say on this holiday (June 2007) Royal Kenz is that we would never go back after having 4 rooms in 3 days, 1 of them being ant infested, the pictures look so glamourous. Don't be fooled.

Waiters help themselves to tips, and the food, nothing special. 2 Lifts 400 Rooms only 10 double rooms in the hotel according to the Manager.

Share tables to eat your meal............... Could go on for ever. Only good thing.............. Weather great.
