Highly recommend Port El Kanoui. It is lovely in the evenings with the marina and dancing fountains. It is equally lovely in the daytime and there are plenty of cheap shops and restaurants.
If you are visiting the area it is probably best to visit Sousse first as once you've been to Post El Kanoui you will not like Sousse. The medina's are NOT cheap. They are a experience but after a short while you may find your patience as virtually left you ?
Don't believe strangers who say they work at your hotel and then try to take you to see carpets or leather shops. They are just conmen.
We would not like to go the Tunisia again as there is ALOT of harrassment whenever you leave the hotels. We had a nice time as our hotel was nice and we loved the Port, but we are glad it was for only one week.

A great place to stay, we were staying at the Marhaba club so we were approx 15 mins walk out of the town centre, but it was just enough to get out of the town hustle and bustle.
Sousse offers a modern shopping area but also the more tradional medina market shopping (well worth a visit ) if required, it is mainly clean in all areas with a fantastic beach !
Great holiday.

The resort was clean.
The beach was lovely but there was a lot of glass on the sand which i found very unpleasant. People try and pester you to but things which i found extermely annoying - but once you tell them no thank you - they take the hint.

stayed at the mahaba beach hotel just outside the resort centre of souse.slim centre shopping complex just outside hotel apart from that nothing else but a very busy main road (tunisian drivers!!!) be careful crossing roads.beach i imagine will be very nice once cleaned, we were just out of season & work had begun on tidying up the beach front.

Resort is on the outskirts of Sousse so need to get a taxi if want to visit places but these are cheap and you can barter with the drivers to get an even better deal.
Sousse itself seemed a little rough and I was glad as a family we were not staying in the centre of it. Port el kantou is only a short journey from hotel and this was much nicer for families and the beaches where a lot cleaner.

The resort itself was clean even though there are many new developments in progress. The beach belonging to out hotel was clean but we did notice further down the beach that there was quite alot of broken glass so beware if walking barefoot on the sand.
There is a bowling alley, restaurants and some bars, although nightlife is not lively. We did not try any of the restaurants as we were full board at our hotel, but the two near the notel looked inviting.
For the best market experience we went to Nabeul market - the traders still hassled you but there was more room to excape than in Sousse Medina. In Sousse itself, we decided to shop at the Soula Centre. We found that in the Medina the prices we inflated and by the time we had bartered the prices were not much cheaper than in the Soula Centre anyway.
We felt perfectly safe walking out on an evening and travel in the day was easy. Taxi's are easy to catch (no need to hail one, they will see you walking and just offer you their services!) For another experience take a Tuk Tuk, The Noddy Train or a Horse and Cart. The Tuk Tuk and Taxis usually cost 2 dinar per person (less than £1) and the horse and carriage cost just 15 dinar (less than £7.50) all the way from Port el Kantaoui to Sousse.
We strongly recommend the 2 day Sahara excursion. All the meals are included and even if you are already full board at the hotel, it is still well worth the £70 anyway. You tour by coach around Tunisia getting a really good taste for the country and culture. The first meal at the Berber Cave in Matmata (where they filmed Star Wars) was a very different experience and the camel ride across the Sahara was amazing. The Sahara Hotel was excellent - have a dip in the thermal spring pool, which is like swimming in a vat of heated home brew but apparently is very good for the skin! Many people said they did not go on this excursion because they were only there for a week and it took too much out of the holiday. However, we were only there for a week and would not have missed this for the world - it made the holiday!
We would recommend this holiday to anyone who is looking for a bit of culture and a different experience to the usual booze cruise kind of holiday. Infact, we liked it so much we're going back in the Summer to explore the parts of Tunisia we haven't yet seen.

Resort was very clean and well looked after.
Beach very clean though not very wide, can't imagine being comfortable there if beach was crowded. Cheap sunloungers available.

Everywhere we went our taxi/horse/bus driver wanted to take us somewhere else. It gets a bit tiring having to tell them you don't want to buy/visit/drink/eat at their brother/cousin's shop/cafe/rug factory. I know it's how they make their living, but someone should tell them all that the British like to buy and spend anyway, but we don't like being mithered, they might sell us more then!

Once you leave the hotel complex the cleanliness drops to poor, but there again I suppose this all makes for new experiences. We found little or no resort entertainment but as previously stated the beach is clean, fine grains of white sand and plenty of it.
