We went during Ramadan so I can't really give a fair picture, but I liked being in a safe, pleasant environment and being able to go into a more picturesque town for shopping and sightseeing.
It was a nice place once you learned to handle the hawkers.

Skanes as such is not a resort but a group of hotels and a power station!! But the surrounding area is kept relatively clean, and within easy access of Monastir or Sousse for entertainment, or you can visit 'the flinstones building' which houses a very good pizza parlour and a 'pub' with wide screen tv and public phones!.
The beach is 'cleaned' each day but only to the tide line!! But hey its seaweed cuttlefish bones and the likes washed up I have never seen any nasties! There are lifeguards but only outside the hotels for the hotel guests!!
I am returning to Skanes as I would like to see if there is anymore entertainment and the likes on offer in the low season.

In all we had a fantastic holiday - great tours and great beach/pool holiday.
You need to remember that this isn't home and that it's North Africa -where the locals earn about £45 a month, go with an open mind & enjoy the change of culture - you never know you might learn something if you can be bothered to take an interest!

not a place for young people or couples who like bars and pubs back home. very hotel-based. The beaches are wonderfulthough, but be prepared for salesmen flogging you camel rides and pirate boat trips!

The market in Sousse is an ‘experience’ – one in our case which we would not want to repeat. You had no chance to look at stalls as it was a case of being propelled around in the middle of a swarming mass of humanity.
We visited Port el Kantoui on several evenings and it is a relaxing and very sociable place to sit, have a drink, and watch the world go by. Taxi shouldn’t cost more than 3 dinar from the hotel to the marina (doubles after 9 pm). Shopping is quite good too!!
We tried to catch a noddy train for the two weeks but never got the timing right – don’t know what the answer is, just stand and wait in hope I think

The Medina was fun but only if you are prepared to barter with the locals. For single women, the experience could be quite intimidating. Plenty of bargains in leather to be had if you are prepared to argue. We went into a fixed price shop early on our stay so we could gauge the prices we were prepared to pay.
Ask the cost of taxi fare before getting in the cab...there is a huge variation. Also ask the cost of drinks before drinking them...again, there could be a huge difference. Sellers are never content even after a sale and will try to extract a few extra dinar for themselves: it helps to have a few one dinar pieces in your pocket to prevent yourself becoming exploited.
Having said this we did enjoy the resort of Sousse and will long remember the smells of the spices, the fish market with its marvellous cacophany of noises and shouts that punctuated our every step. However,it is likely to be some years before we come back.

Must be remembered Tunisia, is a very poor country and as such, great Britain could learn a lot from Tunisian countrymen regarding service and manners, souse is a working town, with a government controlled store, the soula centre and for the more brave, try bartering in the medina,(walled in bazaar) its great fun and please remember the
Tunisians love a laugh and say hello to everyone you only have to say hello and move on very quickly, otherwise then come requests to have coffee and some dinars, it is absolutely safe on the streets at night, as in the uk stay on the main roads, where all the night life is, you still get coffee at the road bars at 4am, whilst in souse call, in others hotels and see what they are like ready for the next time, and don’t forget to go on the Sahara 2 day trip, brilliant, include port al kantoui for a visit or stay there its also not to be missed with it's superb marine and shops etc, good luck, you will not be disappointed.

No complaints about Sousse really. We had dithered between here, Port El-Kantaoui and Hammamet, and feel we definitely made the right decision. Other people we spoke to who were staying in these places said they wished they were in Sousse as where they were there was nothing to do. We were a bit outside the city but you could walk in in about 30 minutes, which gave you the option of doing the whole resorty thing or seeing a bit of the city if you wanted to. There isn't loads to do in Sousse but enough to keep you occupied for a couple of days, and we also squeezed in a 2-day Sahara trip which meant our 1 week holiday was pretty full.

The resort was very welcoming, maybe a little basic but well worth a visit to see another culture. Will definitely be returning next year.

Situated in the middle of sousse and el katoui, is perfect as it is just a couple of pounds to either
