lovethesun,

It's hurricane season in the caribbean region from May until October so the weather can be variable. May and June average 1-3" of rain with temperatures in the 90's. You should be ok but bear in mind it's early in the hurrican season so anything can happen. I always have my caribbean holiday in March as it's generally settled and not too hot/humid. The marine life is just springing in to action as well :tup

Have a look at this site- about half way down the page see History and Almanac- it gives a history of the weather at whatever time of year you are interested in:-

Tropical storm Fay due to hit Eastern Cuba today. So far it has killed 6 people in Dom Rep. I'm heading out on 5th September to Varadero and hope everything is cleared up by then. My main worry though is for the people there having to live through it. Hopefully it won't turn into a full force hurricane if it does make landfall.

I know Aruba is dry at that time of year. I was there last year and we had about 5 mins of rain and we have booked for next July. :)

Hello
i just wondered if anyone has stayed in Varadero around the end of october/beginning of november and, if so, what was the weather like? i know it's still hurricane season then but just wanted to know what kind of conditions you might have experienced.

Whats the weather in Aug in Dom rep normally like i was there 11 yr ago and we had 2 down pours of rain which stopped very quickly.
Is it going to be red hot, sunny with odd rain spells?
Checked wunderground for last year and not too many rain days but the year before there was a lot.
Does it ever rain all day everyday???

vicky06,

It's the 'how long is a piece of string question'! August is in the unsettled months and as you've found, it can be glorious sunshine or raining. The average for August is late 80's and 8" of rain, one of the wetter months but of course this is just an average. There's no guarantees what it will be like at that time of year, you take your chances. I normally have my Caribbean holiday in March as the weather is generally lovely but then I'm not governed by school holidays. The rain tends to come down in short, sharp downpours and many are at night. That's not to say you won't get some through the day as well though! Which part of the Dom Rep you re staying in can make a difference too.

I think Darren is right you just have to take a chance, we came back on Monday from the DR and for ten days we had rain and cloud, in fact it rained all night, all the next day and all night again in the first week. Still enjoyed it though

DAZBO, I would like to stay in or near to Cabo rojo which is on the same caost as Santa Dominigo. Is the weather likely to be less affected by huricanes, in August.

Also is the DR full of americanes.

thanks

Garry_Nutter,

That's impossable to say. August is in hurricane season and they can take any course.
