Hi Vicky
We have been to Turkey several times and when I asked the health visitor and doctor they said there is no need for jabs they said not to have them if they are not needed

The general rule for Turkey is -

If you're going to any resort area, you don't need innoculations.
If you're venturing further inland or into the Eastern areas of Turkey, innoculations are recommended.
I have been going to the resort areas of Turkey for 10 years, have never had any innoculations for it, and have never been ill. My daughter is 5, has been going to the resort areas since she was 3 months old, and has only had her normal UK innoculations. She has never become ill in Turkey either.

Of course I wouldn't say it was wrong if your doctor or health clinic has advised innoculations, and you got them done. But similarly, if your health clinic say you don't need them for where you're going, I'd accept that too.

when you have them, you are then covered for 10years

The above is not quite true, Hep A needs a booster at 12 months and Typhoid at 3 years.

Hi all
It has probably been asked lots of times. Do you need to have any vacinations going to Turkey? Some say you do, some say you don't.
Can you advise please?

Thanks in advance

After being told by boots to contact Masta reagarding my maleria question, yesterday i had my personal holiday review for Turkey which covers all about jabs, maleria and things of interest in the country at the mo. I was very impressed and all it cost was about 4mins on the phone.

they also sent out a booklet on insect bite protection, sun care etc with the chance to buy mozzie bands and first aid kits etc at a reasonable price.

I am really looking forward to my hols now and glad i went to boots to ask them my question

We are going to Ichmelar in August and we were advised to make sure our Tetenus/Diptheria/Polio jab was up to date and also to have a Hep A jab. Took Dr's advice and had both - without pain !

ive been going to turkey for over 24 years and up to 5 times a year with my family and we have never had any jabs, my mother lives in turkey and hasnt had them either, we have had no problems, same applies to all my friends that have visited,my daughter has been going since she was 6 mths and hasnt been ill at all, it really is only necessary if you are going out of the tourist places

but at the end of the day the decision is up to you
