What is the actual health department(if thats the right place) recommendation on jabs i didnt have any last time i went to Turkey and i asked the health visitor the other week especially as i have a baby and she said we didnt need any......a bit worrying if she is giving me the wrong info where a baby is concerned.
I personally thought it you were going to a hotel complex you were ok it was just if you were going into the remote places.
My baby is up to date with all his other jabs as is my 5yr old but now im not sure if they need any others???
Vicky
We have been to Turkey several times and when I asked the health visitor and doctor they said there is no need for jabs they said not to have them if they are not needed
If you're going to any resort area, you don't need innoculations.
If you're venturing further inland or into the Eastern areas of Turkey, innoculations are recommended.
I have been going to the resort areas of Turkey for 10 years, have never had any innoculations for it, and have never been ill. My daughter is 5, has been going to the resort areas since she was 3 months old, and has only had her normal UK innoculations. She has never become ill in Turkey either.
Of course I wouldn't say it was wrong if your doctor or health clinic has advised innoculations, and you got them done. But similarly, if your health clinic say you don't need them for where you're going, I'd accept that too.

when you have them, you are then covered for 10years
The above is not quite true, Hep A needs a booster at 12 months and Typhoid at 3 years.

Edit this topic is for vaccination discussion only Briar

if your near dalaman then you don't need malaria tabs only if you are going over to east of turkey
thank you iloveholidays1703 im satisfied i know now, and really looking forward the holiday now
It has probably been asked lots of times. Do you need to have any vacinations going to Turkey? Some say you do, some say you don't.
Can you advise please?
Thanks in advance

I have visited the forum previously, thats why I am in two minds about the vaccinations!!
I'll have to ask my Doctor
Thanks

i phoned the dr and they said come in and you will need hep a dip and typhoid but when we got there we only needed hep a as the area we are going to is tourist although i had to have a tetnus as havent had one in years.
i have a 6 yr old and a 8yrs old, its no diff to them having their jabs
but myother friends hav told me they never had them.
but the hep a if you go for the booster you are covered for 10yrs
they also sent out a booklet on insect bite protection, sun care etc with the chance to buy mozzie bands and first aid kits etc at a reasonable price.
I am really looking forward to my hols now and glad i went to boots to ask them my question

We are going to Ichmelar in August and we were advised to make sure our Tetenus/Diptheria/Polio jab was up to date and also to have a Hep A jab. Took Dr's advice and had both - without pain !
Am off to Marmaris in September and want to know what injections i need. Went around 6-7 years ago. Had injections then. Didnt have the booster though.

ive been going to turkey for over 24 years and up to 5 times a year with my family and we have never had any jabs, my mother lives in turkey and hasnt had them either, we have had no problems, same applies to all my friends that have visited,my daughter has been going since she was 6 mths and hasnt been ill at all, it really is only necessary if you are going out of the tourist places
