Staying in Kefalos and not really wanting to hire a car and also want to avoid the Thomas Cook mark up on the rep trips. Anyone got ideas?. Would maybe hire a car but heard it is pretty scary driving on Kos.
Cheers
last year we used Harriet travel based in Kardamena but im sure you will find a car hire or booth localy selling trips far cheaper than the holiday reps..
Having driven several thousands of miles in Greece I would suggest Kos is no worse than any of the other islands or the mainland. Many Greeks drive believing themselves to be immortal and this applies to all ages not just the young. I believe Greece has the worst fatality rate in Europe but this might be because most do not appear to wear seatbelts.Go ahead and hire a car, I'm sure you'll be fine, keep the speed down and expect the unexpected.
Thanks for replies. Just never having driven abroad before, naturally a bit anxious
Im wanting to know of anyone else who has had a similar accident and was just wondering if I do go on the holiday will they split the cast for me? will i keep it split over the holiday or will I have to get it done when I am over in Greece? and I dont have any holiday insurance yet and dont know whether an insurance company would take me on?

Can't answer all your questions but one thing I'm sure about is holiday insursnce won't cover you if you have any problems with your ankle as it is a pre exsiting complaint.
and why oh why did you not take out travel insurance when you booked the holiday,, if you cant go then you will have lost everything....

Could anyone advise what weather to expect from late September early October please - grateful for any comments.
We went to Kos about 4 years ago for the 2nd and 3rd weeks of September. We had beautiful scorching heat during the day and still had warm evenings with only 1 or two evenings where we needed a light cardigan because of a slight cooling breeze. I'm sure it will be lovely.
Being cooler at nights makes it easier to sleep, and you don't need the air conditioning.
That late in the season you might get a thunderstorm, but it will only last about half an hour. We've had two or three at that time of year, but that is out of 11 or 12 visits.

Myself, wife and 7 year old daughter are flying out to Kos on the 16th July. We are staying at the Mitsis Family Village near to Kardamena, for two weeks. It would be good to hear from anyone that has stayed at the resort to get the general lowdown. I've checked the reviews and, apart from a couple of recent posts, they are quite old.
we are not doing Kos this year.. but it hasnt changed much.. have you looked at the resort reports for the last couple of years
Efaristo for that. I've checked the reviews and, yes there is one new one (which is good) and one for August last year. Then the next one goes back to 2005. I promise I'll write a review when I get back

At least the truth is better than tea & sympathy!
No point in telling the guy that things will be fine.
Just got what seems like a good deal to Sandys apartments in Kos town any info please
In February 1994 I was involved in an industrial accident and sustained a bad compound fracture of the ankle. At the time I had two holidays booked, one to Cyprus in May and one to Kos Town in July. I cancelled the May holiday and re-booked for October but I decided to leave the July booking as I was going with a party and I didn't want to let the others down as I was lead name on the booking. By the time July came I had finished with the wooden crutches and I had changed to a load bearing cast and elbow crutches. I don't recall telling the insurance company about my condition or getting any letter from a doctor. I did contact Birmingham airport to arrange wheelchair assistance within the airport. I spent two weeks at Kos town but I was rather restricted to just hobbling to the beach every day. I couldn't hire a car and I didn't feel confident to risk getting on one of their buses. I made the best of the holiday the worst part being getting along on crutches in the intense heat.

I think this may have invalidated your policy.
My policy is clear that you should advise the insurance company of any change in health.
My sentiments exactly. You just must tell the insurance company about any medical problems. If you do not then you run the very real risk of should something go wrong whilst abroad you will not be covered. Medical treatment and repatriation can be VERY expensive.
