I agree regards the Airport, but what puts people off is an advantage for the rest of us.
But our last 2 visits the airport was like a Ghost Town, we never had time to go round what few shops there are in the Airport.
Kos Island in General though is cheaper than other Islands, mainly due to not having the same level of tourists that others do.
So the Take it or leave it pricing doesn't really exist.
But if you have never been you won't go far wrong on Kos Island.

PipeFiiter,
I believe you can get a better price, we use a small bookiing agent so no large overheads.
No probs for six years and ABTA registered.
As soon as I can get pm facility I will let you know the details, I also have the Olympic sales managers mail addy and she too is very helpful.:tup

Still have not given up on Kos,but Thomas Cook/Airtours are the only carrier to fly on a Sat from Bristol.
Best price so far is £585 for two return flights, baggage and pre booked seating, but they want money up front(5 months in advance)Thomas Cook agent quoted £604 deposit now, baggage inc but without pre booked seating.

Have you looked at Kiss flights ?

They are flying to Kos not sure if from Bristol or not.

Can someone give me some advice about spending a day in Kos please.

We are hoping to visit kos for the day from Bodrum this year but as I have done it before I would like to go somewhere other than Kos Town this time. Are there any resorts we could get to easily from Kos Town for a few hours, wher we could have a little wander around and have some lunch?

My husband has never been to Greece before so I thought it would be nice to visit a Greek resort so he could see what it is like there.

Are there buses that go to the resorts? Or would it be cheap enough to get a taxi somewhere as we will have limited time there?

Thanks in advnace for any advice

Hi Kedi - I don't think that Kardamena is too far away. We went to Kos Town on a motor bike when we stayed in Kardamena. I'm sorry I can't help with the buses.

It's odds-on that there will be a rep on the ferry who will be selling day trips around Kos. You can have a lovely day in Kos town alone without any need for a trip and plenty of sights to see around the town. There are some lovely tavernas around the harbour area as well, so you won't go hungry.

not on the coast.. but has spectacular views is the village of ZIA its in the mountains halfway between kos and Kahdamina, lots of stolls some shops and several tavernas [although a little bit expensive as this a popular place to visit]

Thanks Helen and Wizard, I will have a read up on those places.

I have been to Kos Town and I went to all the sites and had a lovely lunch but I wanted to go somewhere different this time. Is Tingaki or Mastihari near enough to get to? I stayed in Mastihari once, many years ago and it was nice there. I don't want to do an organised trip, just get on a bus somewhere or a taxi.

I completely forgot about that little village Wizard. We went on an organised trip many years ago, was there 2 little villages Zia & Pia? I'm not sure how far Tingaki & Mastahari are Kedi. I haven't visited them.

We are planning on booking at a self catering apartment at Kos Town but want a sandy beach, from what I have been reading it looks like that area has predominantly pebbles/shingle. Is there a nice sandy beach, dont want to go to Karamena (too much happening there!)?

Hi Karena, the best beaches in Kos are at Tingaki. much quieter than Kos Town, but still enough going on, further south there is Kefalos which has a nice sandy beach but it is a very quiet yet pretty resort, and from Kefalos a short bus ride will take you to Paradise Beach (the name says it all) bear in mind the island is only 26 miles long from north to south, I usually go to Kefalos it is just 30 mins on the local bus to Kos Town and costs 2 euro. Wherever you decide to go I'm sure you will have a lovely time, the people of Kos are extremely genuine and friendly.

Hiya, could anyone who is currently in Kos or just got back (preferably tingaki but anywhere is good) let me know the exchange rate on the island? I am wondering whether to get my currency before i go or to take sterling and change it there.

cheers

The beach north of Kos harbour is much the best sandy beach, all those to the south of the harbour towards Psalidi are shingle and pebble.
So if you stay right in town or just north of the harbour you will be close.
