plenty cocktails and the sea sickness goes too colin
God knows what I will be liked on the day, if I've like this now!
Why would Thomsons offer the all inclusive package at the price they do if they made a loss?, cleary because many people take it without using it to the full.
There's just as many people who stay on the ship in port as get off for the day. Some like us get off for a few hours and go back at lunchtime, so I suppose it's swings and roundabouts. Also there's no big bar bill shock at the end. On one of our cruises the kids of the family racked up a £400 bar bill and on disembarkation day they wouldn't let this family off until they paid. There were big rucktions at reception but as this family were "The Family from Hell "there was a sense of smug satisfaction from most of the passengers.
We are moderate drinkers, but do drink more on holiday and it all adds up if you like a couple of lunchtime drinks, a pre-dinner cocktail or two, a couple of glasses of wine with your meal and then drinks for the rest of the evening.
Having said that, we have always managed to book early enough to get AI included in the original price. But if we didn't we would pay for the upgrade as it just removes the uncertainty - we also saw some parents reprimanding their children for the huge soft drinks bill.

I agree it can all start to add up, an afternoon cocktail, couple of drinks before dinner, wine with dinner, drinks during a show, afer show drinks.. and a few tipples before bedtime... it sounds a lot, but really doesn't seem it at the time. And my other half doesn't really drink. He'll have maybe 1 alcoholic drink a day, but he nails the soft drinks.
Crinkle how much did you pay for all inclusive and where did you purchase it from that was cheaper than the Thomson website?
Anyways.... It was £75pp for 2 weeks, and that was through a Thomson travel agent, after much haggling between different travel agents one evening. Took about 4 hrs one evening, but it was worth it.
Thanks for quick reply crinkle. Did you still get like for like on holiday price i.e. internet price?
It was cheaper for the upgrade, the cruise and the AI package through the travel agent... next year I've leaving to the other half again lol
I've just come back from Destiny, and luckily for you I had a sneek peek inside 7025. It's a very spacious suite and there isn't a restricted view out of the windows (there are 2).
I hope this helps,
Rachel.
Thanks Rachel, I managed to get a photo of one of the other cabins and they look good too, so I think I'll save the £35.
I've just booked a cruise on thomson 'destiny' and opted for o/s cabin on decks 4/5. I've read that there are L shape or parallel bed configuration and that the L shape are uncomfortable. Has anyone had a cabin with parallel beds or can advise which cabins are best.
I fairly recently had an outside on Deck 4 with the L config. The cabins are small but I would not say uncomfortable. The issue for me with the L config is that one of the beds is put back onto the wall of the cabin during the day and made up again when you are at dinner. So after a hot days excursion/ big meal or being in the sun, sometimes you just want to crash and have a refreshing siesta. Believe me two people won't squeeze onto one bed. Maybe I should have asked for the bed to stay down, but then there was little room to move around the cabin. Can't comment on the parallel bed config.
We sailed on the Destiny when she was the Sunbird and I actually liked the L configuration. The beds weren't any less comfortable than any other beds on cruise parallel or otherwise.
The only complaint I would have which is minor is that you can only watch the TV comfortably from one of the beds.

Also you may not get much of a choice - the brochures always say rooms may be in an L-shaped or parallel configuration but I think there's very few outside cabins in an L-shape.
I have had 4 outside cabins on Destiny, in-laws have had 2 - all 6 have been L-shaped configuration. We have also had 4 late check out cabins which were inside, and all 4 were parallel configuration so you may not actually get the choice unless there are a few and you manage to pre-book a parallel.
Actually, I would be interested to hear if anyone has had a parallel configuration in an outside cabin on Destiny. Just out of curiosity!
We are sailing on the destiny next april to the caribbean. We have prebook cabins 3016 and 3018. We have been assured that 3016 is parallel configuration and will also be made into a double bed for our stay. Our other cabin is a 3 berth.
Hi Jeccabean, going back on Destiny I see! Remind me again in April that I asked about this, and let me know what configuration you get!
We was on the Destiny in July for a week and stayed in Cabin 3021. It was in a L shaped configeration. Yes it was a small cabin, but really for the length of time you are in your cabin, it is ample. The cabin attendant made the room up when we was either on deck or out and about in the port and also after we had an afternoon nap and got ready for the evening.
There is ample wardrobe space and the bathroom is ok.
I'm sure you will find these cabins are fine.
Sue
hi jaccabean are you doing the transatlantic sunrise on the destiny in april
